I never knew about this until I was taken there as part of a small tour group. This burial site marks the battle ending Hawaiian kapu traditions being upheld by the royal family. The rugged grounds that the battle occurred on gives an appreciation for the strength of the Hawaiian people.

The Lekeleke Burial Ground is not well marked but it is right there in front of you a short distance after Alii Drive meets with Mamalahoa Bypass on the southern side. This is a very peaceful and tranquil area. There is a gated road that leads down to the lava rock coast which is very beautiful. Wear good shoes when walking towards the shore because you are walking through moderate lava rocks. It's not a bad walk at all as far as difficulty and the beauty and serenity are well worth it.

Wear reef walkers or sturdy shoes. No facilities. Stay off of the cliffs. Never turn your back to the ocean. You are 60' up, but the crashing waves can quickly knock you over and knock you over the cliff. It is a gorgeous and serene area with important historical significance. Be respectful. Clean up after yourselves.

We were on a tour and one of the stops was here. I am happy we did stop here, it was very interesting to see this historical marker! Plus the views were beautiful!

We were sightseeing and there was construction along the way. We passed this place but I saw a sign. We decided to turn around to see it. It was good that we stopped. The place is historical and beautiful as well. Wear good shoes because there is a lot to see in the back but the lava rocks are rough. This place is peaceful. Cars are not allowed inside.
