We have returned to this resort several times. The multiple BBQs and swimming pools ensure that you don't have to wait long to BBQ or jump in a crowded pool. We usually rent the two bedroom suite which comes with a large space between the bedrooms that comes in very handy when you have to have family visiting. The "pods" as we call them are spacious and within walking distance to beautiful sunsets and short drives to the beach. We are planning to return in 2015 for our two week stay.

Room Tip: Choose a room close to the Golf course

This place is a sports persons dream. Eleven tennis courts, eight small pools and a golf course plus the Pacific Ocean on your door step. We stayed for three nights in a self contained apartment that you could get lost in. There was a living room that could hold twenty people easily, a fully fitted kitchen and laundry room within. A very large bedroom with en suite facilities and a balcony.

Whilst we did not have an ocean view it was delightful eating breakfast outside every morning in the warm sunshine. The golf course was being renovated so the number of guests was reduced as were the amenities available and I think we got a reduced rate because of this.

The resort is a little isolated but for peace quiet and space it was excellent.

Room Tip: The car park is isolated from the apartments so if you do not like walking much then try and get a r...

I'm a little late in writing this review, but wanted to give our experience here, as our hotel decisions are usually made based on reviews.

We came here last December to celebrate my fiance's 50th birthday. We have a one bedroom unit, exchanged via Interval International. We were lucky in that our second floor unit had a perfect ocean view. We enjoyed this most mornings while eating breakfast on our lanai.

The central parking was a bit of a trek from our unit, but the hotel staff brought around a golf cart and helped us get all of our baggage to our room. Most of the time the walk to the parking lot was nice exercise, except for the one day we returned from our activities bone tired.

We enjoyed the full kitchen and used it in some capacity daily. There's a market nearby to stock up on whatever you need, but a couple of days into our trip we discovered there's a Target farther north on the island that has better prices.

The concierge was very helpful with planning our daily activities. We followed many of his recommendations and had a great time.

The only negatives were that the rooms were a bit outdated, and that the pools are small. We were never able to take advantage of the pools due to the number of other guests - just too crowded.

We would definitely stay again.

Our family stayed two nights in August at this resort. We were attracted based on the high ratings here on tripadvisor, and the overall value. When we arrived check in was pleasant. Our unit 13 -84 was spacious and well maintained. Some pics enclosed. Unfortunately, our stay was ruined by cockroaches in the kitchen, which were FAST! They were behind the fridge and in the kitchen drawers. Picture from iphone of one of the ceiling. We also encountered a clogged bathtub, left a note for housekeeping, and when we drove around the island leaving early morning and returning late in the evening, we found the room not cleaned. We called the front desk and attitude was substandard. I had to request towels to be delivered, and they did not have clog remover. Cockroaches freaked my family out. I explained and they didn't really acknowledge there was a problem. When I reported to front desk, they did not do much, and supervisor called me in morning about 8:30 a.m. with 10 a.m. check out, offered to have someone clear the tub. Stay was spoiled by lack of customer service response. I did fill out the customer survey sent online after stay, and the general manager responded with an email to me. Basically repeated everything the front desk supervisor told me the morning on departure, until I wrote a direct email back, explaining the "hiccup" with my stay, and correcting some of the facts. General Manager was apologetic and acknowledged the customer service failure, and offered us to come back and try again. Did not expect this bad experience from such as well rated property. I hope it doesn't happen to you. My advice is to call the front desk right away, and ask for a supervisor who might help you. If not check out and stay somewhere else.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear of the unit cleanliness issues you encountered and the delay in staff response to this issue. We know that quality of the unit is an important part of vacationing. It is good to hear that the General Manager reached out to you regarding the concerns and addressed a resolution. Thanks again for providing this feedback.

It's a great resort with huge rooms. Great staff. I was really surprised that this resort is only a three star resort, because it's easily can be four stars. Thank you very much for a great anc relaxing stay.

We stayed at 3 properties on the Big Island during out trip and Holua Resort was by far the best bang for our buck. Plenty of space. Two bedrooms, each with their own en suite bathroom and another half-bath in the spacious living room made us never want to leave. Each room also had its own individually-controlled A/C. AWESOME. Big wraparound balcony. Full kitchen, DVD player, all the amenities, beautiful grounds, within easy distance of Kailua town and all at a good price.

The single beds in the second bedroom were a little small. The furniture decor wasn't exactly modern. But these were small complaints. Would definitely stay again.
