“Gorgeous stay”
Reviewed 23 December 2013

It was a very gorgeous stay. We got a room upstairs as we had asked for. It was a very large unit with a very good equipped kitchen, very spacious sitting room. The lanai was very large as well. There were a table, chairs and sunbeds as well. It was very quiet. The staff was very friendly. The courtyard and garden were very well-tended. The pools were nice as well. I would have liked to stay longer. And I would definitively stay here again whenever I am in Big Island.

I was staying in Kona and really wanted to play some tennis. Finally checked out the Holua Tennis Center and was glad I did. The courts were in great shape and I highly recommend Richard for a playing lesson. We hit balls for about an hour, he is a skilled player and can hit to any level. Hewas very friendly and offered to get me into some doubles when I visit next year.
Highly recommended.

Management has changed. They no longer clean the bathrooms or change bedding during your stay. That is fine for a couple days but after a week, the toilets are disgusting. I'd have given a better rating if they at least provided a toilet brush but no they don't. I've stayed at the Holua Resort multiple times. It used to be a very nice place but the recent changes have been for the worse. Too bad.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We are sorry to hear your stay did not meet your expectations. Our goal is to make each guest feel at home with a kitchen and laundry. Because we have condo-style resorts, certain hotel amenities such as daily housekeeping do not exist. We strive to provide this information to the guest through our website, pre-arrival letter and confirmation letter. We apologize for any confusion and will work to better communicate this through additional channels in the future. We are sorry for your experience and greatly value your feedback.

I agree with the other reviews of this place. The place is great, rooms are good (a little dated but very clean and everything worked fine), location was good and the pricing was excellent for this standard of accommodation. The grounds are really nice and having the pool and jaccuzzi close by was very convenient.

Would recommend it to anyone heading to the Big Island and wanting a good, clean, comfortable place to stay. The fact it is a small resort makes it even better!

Room Tip: All the rooms are pretty similar from what we could tell. They all overlook the hotel grounds.

My new wife and I stayed here for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon in Hawaii. We came to Big Island to check out the volcano and just get a general sense of the island while the majority of our trip was going to spent on Maui and Kauai.

We wanted a place with a kitchen to save money on not having to go out every night.

Check in - Easy process and the front desk was helpful in pointing out various places to shop/eat in the vicinity. Costco, grocery store etc. All pretty close by. They upgraded us to a 2 bedroom apartment which was very spacious and nice but Im sure we would have had plenty of room in the 1 bedroom place.

Grounds - The grounds were average, nothing spectacular but overall well kept. No ocean view. There was plenty of parking in the underground lot and we had easy access to the suite. They have lots of tennis courts and a small gym. There were pools and hot tubs as well as bbq's in front of most of the individual buildings which house about 6 or so units. I cant honestly rate the pool, hot tubs etc as we didnt use them since we spent our days exploring the island and only came back to the room to cook dinner and sleep.

Room - We had a 2 bedroom, 2 floor suite. Place was very spacious overlooking the golf course. Everything was clean and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils and cooking equipment. There was a nice terrace that we had our breakfast on most mornings. Beds were comfy. There was a in room safe and two sinks with a separate toilet and shower area. They also had en suite washer/dryer which came in handy.

Check out: They say there is a 24 hr concierge but we had an early flight and when we went to the office to check out it was locked (they were apparently on a security tour of the property). There was a text check out option but we aren't american so we couldn't do that either. So we just left. Didn't hear anything otherwise so I figure it went ok.

Overall: It was a good place for a home base with kitchen while checking out the island. If we were to return to Big Island (which we would really only do if we could see live flowing lava since the lava flow had stopped when we were there) we would consider staying here again. Seems like a place tennis players would love though

Room Tip: The 2 bedroom suite is massive. 2 floors!

Beautiful grounds, very well maintained. There is no real view of the ocean, but the grounds are very tropical and you still feel like you're on a tropical vacation. The whole experience was great, from check-in to check-out. We arrived early, but our room was available right away. The parking lot is not centrally located and it was a bit of a walk to get to our room (we stayed in the furthest area with suites), but a bellman helped us find our room and helped us with our luggage into the room. Other than the initial ride, we had to lug everything (ice chests, beach bags, groceries, etc) back and forth since we never saw a bellman with a golf cart the rest of the time we were there.

The resort amenities are nice, although we never used them. They offer multiple pools and tennis courts, but we were more interested in exploring the island than staying at the resort. We did utilize the BBQ one night which was very convenient (and a money saver!). We did also check out a boogie board, beach chairs and an ice chest from the front desk for the week which was nice to have in the vehicle so if we saw a place to stop on our journey around the island, we would have them handy.

The location of the resort is quite nice, though a bit of a ways from town and beaches. While we stayed, the Ironman World Championships were going on so it was nice to be out of town where all of the athletes were training and away from the course. Beaches are only a few moments drive.

The rooms were comfortable and spacious. The kitchen was well equipped and fully functional. So nice to have full sized fridge/freezer and stove/oven. It was great having the washer and dryer in the unit. The appearance of the rooms were a bit rundown and could use some updating, but definitely not a deal breaker, all things considered.

We went in October for 6 days for our "babymoon" and would definitely return with our newly expanded family again!

Room Tip: If yoy expect to be carrying lots of things from the vehicle to the room, consider a room closer to...

This is a great hotel, at super prices considering Kona average prices. It is 10 km from
downtown Kona, in a quiet area, easy to reach.
It’s not the classic tall building, it’s more like a village, because the rooms are located in 2
floors villas, each with 8 large rooms. There are several swimming pools with hot tub and
tennis courts, and a big parking lot.
Check in was easy and everybody was very kind, they gave us lots of information and
granted us late check out for departure, because our flight was at 9 pm. When we
checked out, they stored our luggage for us so we could drive around Kona without
having our valuables in the car.
The price was excellent, just around 100 USD/night, and we had so many amenities. The
room was very large: living room, with a big sofa, TV and a dining table for 4 people, fully
equipped kitchen with microwave and dishwasher, a large bedroom with king bed and
wardrobe, and a large terrace with another table for 4 and a chaise longue. The bathroom
was big and clean and well equipped with shampoo, body wash and pool towels. We even
had ensuite washing machine and dryer, with complimentary detergent. Wi-fi internet
was also complimentary, as was parking. That was much more than what we expected. You access the pool with a password, and you can also use the hot tub. I didn’t try the
tennis courts so I can’t say how it works
