“Relaxing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 January 2014

My wife and I went to this resort for our honeymoon, she loved it because of how laid back and relaxing it is. It is off the main streets so it is rather secluded, if you just want to relax in a quiet atmosphere this is for you. Our favorite place was the lanai,it was huge with a table big enough for about 8, plus a couple of lounge chairs. Rooms also beautiful and large. Staff was extremely helpful, they will book any excursions you want. We plan on returning someday.

On May 5th 2013, my husband I boarded a plane to The Big Island. This was our first trip to Hawaii and I wanted to have a perfect room in the perfect location . After reading a ton of reviews we chose the Wyndham Kona Hawaiian Resort. It was a GREAT choice !! We stayed in the 2 bedroom 2 bath villa and it was very nice !! I really like the way they had it styled ! The master bedroom has a claw feet tub and a nice tiled shower. The 2nd bedroom has a complete bathroom off of it also . The kitchen was fully equipped and made us feel like we were at our second home ! The resort is very spacious and clean. The staff are extremely nice and helpful. I would definitely say the best staff I've ever come across !!! They were very informative and friendly. They set us up with a free VIP luau which was all inclusive . The only thing we had to do was sit thru a 90 min. timeshare presentation That's was a major plus!!!! This resort ROCKS. My only complaint would be the many cats, because I hate them !! But they really didn't bother me and kept their distance. This resort is completely safe, the view is amazing, and we were walking distance to the beach ! Let me not forget, u can walk or drive 4 minutes to the downtown action very easily !!! Great condo Great location !!!!

Room Tip: Top floor if you can.
See more room tips
Green Features: I don't too much about the environmental friendly part. But I can say it was very clean !

This is the first time we have stayed in a condo on our winter vacations, we have done all inclusive other times.
We did not attend the presentation as we had plans for the days, although were bugged a few times to come to it.
The wifi was spotty, and could not get it except in certain areas of the complex- not in the condo we were in, which was very frustrating when it was advertised as available.
The condo is nice enough with good sized bedrooms and a nice large lanai and decent kitchen and living area. It was pretty well stocked with all the utensils. The view however is like living in a apartment building as all you see is the street and the back of the next condo. When this was developed it appears they were trying to fit as many rentals in as possible. We knew it wasn't on the ocean but had hoped for a nice green space at least; We were in an upstairs condo so noise issues from the downstairs one were mimimal. We didn't get in until late Saturday afternoon - they brought us clean towels Tuesday morning and that is the extent of the service.
We like to barbeque and it was a good block away to carry food and utensils back and forth which was a downfall. The pool we used was ok, except there is gritty sand ( love the beach and sand but on the deck it was a pain) which was by hot tub and got tracked all over the deck . I did like the fact there is a washroom there as it too was far enough away from the pool to be running back and forth. I did not like having to use the room card to go to the washroom though.
The latest check out they would give us was 11 am and our flight out wasn't until 9 pm . We spent most of the day by the pool as we had no room. They have a room where the computers are to sit and a washroom where you can change but there is nowhere you can have a shower. Even the all inclusives have rooms they let you have for a few hours to shower and change.
We stayed at the Wyndham Mauna Loa Village the first week and although the location of this one is better, we preferred the Mauna Loa and found the employees there were more friendly and helpful.

I would have written my review from my room... But we never had wifi. We have stayed here at least 6 times and we love the big rooms, great activity director, and close proximity to town. The last two years, we haven't been able to get wifi in the room. This year, we had an employee check our room and he reset the router. It still didn't work. We were then told that it was now our problem and we had to call their sevice, at&t. We spent half the day on the phone with at&t. We never could get an answer why WE had to deal with the problem instead of Wyndham. If you don't care about wifi, this is a great place to stay. It is not right on the water but they do have 2 nice pools. No slides but one pool has a 1 foot kids area for the little ones and they have fun activities.

We had building 11b (first floor) and there were six single 30 something's. I was in the larger room with two sinks, mirrors, toilet, shower and tub in the room. Worked out really great for us :). Can't speak to the comfort of the pull out bed. Our building was near the grills, pool and parking. The condo generally was well equipped. We had to change towels and get more dish washing soap and coffee daily though. And coffee is $2. We didn't get any cleaning during the week. Wish we had but not sure if that was available. We ate all but like two meals at the condo. The key was having the meals planned and grocery list ahead of time. Local grocery stores (KTA) and chains (target, costco, etc) are easy to get to with a rental car (suggest van over car for 4 or more).

It was an easy walk into Kona so we didn't need to worry about drinking and driving. The pool wasn't too busy and hot tub was nice. Didn't use the fitness room. Also booked our own activities in advance so can't speak to resort activities. The patio was great for meals and hanging out.

Some of us were earlier risers than others. Would suggest bringing earplugs as sound seemed to carry pretty easily throughout. Put wet stuff outside to dry and not inside.

I haven't stayed in a time share property before. Seemed pretty good for me though and I'd return. Much better than a traditional hotel with the kitchen and washer/dryer and two bathrooms.

Aloha Lena,

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback including suggestions for future guests. Our goal is to make each guest feel at home by providing kitchen and laundry accommodations. Because we have condo-style resorts, certain hotel amenities such as daily housekeeping do not exist. We’re glad you enjoyed the pool and hot tub area. Again, thank you for reaching out and we look forward to your next visit.

My family of four along with my parents stayed at the Wyndam Kona Hawaiian Resort December 23 - 30, 2013. What a treat! The grounds were beautiful and the staff was top rate! Our two-bedroom condo accommodated all six of us very nicely. The condo was clean and everything was well kept. We had two small maintenance problems, and their staff was there within 30 minutes to fix them! Their on-site activities staff, front desk staff and Expedia Travel expert were extremely friendly and helpful.
The location was superb! Although we were within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants of downtown Kona, it felt that we were in our own secluded paradise. I would DEFINITELY stay at the Wyndam Kona Hawaiian Resort again and would highly recommend it to others.

We stayed for two weeks and the room was great. King beds, armoires, washer and dryer, and two bathrooms. The living area had two upholstered chairs, TV, and a fold out couch. Kitchen had a stove, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee maker, and dishwasher. There is also a small bar and 4 stools.

We were in an upper unit and did hear doors banging in the lower unit, but it wasn't disturbing and we didn't hear anything else. They cleaned midweek and left fresh towels. The lanai was very enjoyable and we sat out as often as we could. The kids really enjoyed watching the geckos.

There are BBQ grills in a few common areas that we used, the only problem we had was that there were no utensils we could use on the grill. The ones in the unit were all plastic. We ended up improvising with forks.

The staff were all very nice and helpful. The expedia person was also very helpful with activities. Oh, and they have a shed with various items you can borrow, pool noodles, umbrellas, boogie boards. We must have always been too late though, the shed was always empty.

The worst part of the whole thing was the timeshare presentation. They signed us up knowing we were not interested, we agreed to go though for the discount card they offered. It wasn't worth it and I wish I had walked out rather than subject myself to that. The first guy (Bruce) was nice and we listened to his pitch, but still weren't interested. Then they bring out the second person (Connie). We listened to her pitch then told her we weren't interested, and then she got mean. She proceeded to insulted us, insult my mother (who wasn't even there), and then told us that our situation was "the silliest thing she had ever heard". That sealed the deal, if we weren't sure before, we were positive then, we will NOT be buying a timeshare. Bullying people is not the way to get them to agree with you. Though I will say, throughout it all Bruce remained polite and professional.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your unit amenities including the lanai. We are disappointed to hear your interaction with the sales staff did not meet your expectations, as this is not part of the Count On Me service we take pride in. We know that while on vacation it is imperative that our guests are treated well. Please rest assured that we will be taking action to ensure that this is not an issue for future guests. Again, thanks for taking the time to reach out.
