“Nice Resort”
Reviewed 14 January 2014 via mobile

This resort has great views of the ocean and countryside. The pool area is excellent. The breakfast was great and the service is excellent. The staff went out of their way to answer any questions that we had. If you are in the Kona area this is the resort to stay at.

Only one restaurant is open in the evening. The food is just okay. Trust me if you have to eat here every night, you will be very disappointed. The menu is limited and everything is mediocre. We went to several other resorts for the food and service. If you want a excellent dinner try Browns Beach House!!! It is pricey , but the food is outstanding.
The breakfast is not worth the 24.99 for entire buffet. Do the continental breakfast.

Fair food, scenic locale, good prices--and a wonderful special events staff; Noni who truly loves her job--and our 10-year old twin girls relished their time learning hula and making leis. On the down side--the lanai smelled of raw sewage, that took two days for the desk to respond.

Seems to be an older resort but one which is being well maintained by Sheraton/Starwood. Take time to enjoy the full range of amenities offered here, including the beautiful ocean-front pools, as well as the unique areas to be explored up and down this side of the Big Island. We could've used more time here, but will visit again if we make it to Kona. I suspect it's been upstaged somewhat by more expensive properties up the coast, but it's every bit as nice and provides a full resort experience.

I had paid for Ocean front room - received a mountain view room go figure.
Reception staff rude.
Have stayed in cleaner , 2 star accommodation much better than this.
The location was good but doesn't make up for the average accommodation.
I think overall the building is old and so is everything else.
This is definitely more of a mum, dad and the kids type of accommodation.
The room was noisy due to restaurant being directly below and kids movies being played at night near pool area.

Stayed at the Sheraton over Christmas for 3 nights with our adult kids. The positives - good sized rooms with comfortable beds. Good closet space, gorgeous view (we had ocean front rooms), nice view from the restaurant with incredible surf! Extremely helpful concierge!!! But other then that - the less then positives are more numerous and i wouldn't really recommend the hotel to others. The rooms although nice in size and clean, really are very tired. all bathroom fixtures are outdated and you certainly don't get the sense of being in a luxurious hotel. The food in all the restaurant options was average - not bad, but just nothing special. the buffet breakfast was nice but pretty expensive - you may want to grab a coffee and muffin at the little coffee shop instead.

Room Tip: The surf is incredible so if you can, book a room on the ocean

We stayed for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year. As has previously been posted a car hire is essential if staying here for more than one night
We had a 'mountain' view room which turned out to overlook the tennis court. The cleaning of the rooms was poor, we had a dead coach roach on our patio for 4 days, we had an overnight stay at the volcano and it was still not cleaned when we returned so we had to complain to reception. Christmas day buffet dinner was poor. Rubbish selection of food, beer ordered but no glass given or offered, no staff about to ask.

Rays on the bay, food was nice but the Sheraton need an urgent rethink on how they treat their guests staying here, we tried to book a reservation but were told we couldn't and just to turn up, 2 1/2 hours we waited, most people it would seem who had reservations were not staying here, a shockingly bad way to treat guests in the only dining place available at the hotel

There is a shopping centre not far away that has a restaurant, pizza place etc, we had a takeout pizza and saw that this was quite popular with guests here, not suprising as you can't really eat here without a massive wait for food. Supermarket also near which we used for buying rolls etc for lunch for when we were out and about.

The resort fee needs to be scrapped in my opinion, you have to wear a wrist band this is apparently for guests so you can go in the pool. non guests can use the chairs etc and bar but can't go in the pool .....What!! Stupid idea and system, all related to the rip off resort fee, we only stayed by the pool one morning in two weeks.

Rooms are noisy, you can here a LOT of doors slamming morning and night, flip flops walking past also very noisy.

If you like huge impersonal hotels and eating/drinking by the pool and signing to your room then this is the resort for you. If you like smaller places without having to pay over 30 usd a day for two small bottles of water and use of a pool then I would recommend renting an appartment or equivelant, I wish we had done this it would have saved me hundreds of pounds.

The fact all replys from this hotel are the same (a copy and paste job) just shows the lack of care by this resort.

Aloha,

Thank you for posting about your stay with us at Sheraton Kona. Due to a very high occupancy around the holidays, there were a lot of lines and waiting, especially at our food and beverage outlets. We are very sorry and will work to ensure this doesn't happen for next year.

However, I hope you can return to stay with us at another time during the year and see what our amazing property has to offer. We have a brand new housekeeping management staff as well as leadership for the pool area. Not sure what you mean about the wristbands; guests who are not staying here shouldn't be allowed near the pool or on the chairs to protect guests' privacy.

If you'd like to discuss your stay in further detail, please email me at kathryn.vanes@sheraton.com.

Mahalo,
Katie Vanes, PR Manager
