We spent four days in this hotel (mainly just for overnight sleep, as all days we were traveling around the Big Island). Despite it is visible the hotel is a little bit older, it can still offer good service.
Unfortunately there is no hotel beach, int he evening you can watch the see from hotel bar and wait for mantas to show up there.
What we defintely disliked was that in the morning only a phone is available on the front-desk, what is more than surprising for me - for the money they charge...

My husband and I came here for the final week of our 3 week vacation in Hawaii. We arrived early and our room was not ready, but the staff was accommodating. We stored our bags and hung out at the pool for a few hours. The pool is huge, has a great slide for kids and adults, volleyball and good for swimming laps and just cooling down, plus excellent service from the pool staff with drinks, food and happy hour libations! There are amazing views of the ocean here, part of the hotel hangs over lava rocks that flow into the ocean. Woke up the first morning to the sound of Humpback whales breathing right out in front of our room. Yoga class is included in the resort fee and is a treat. It is held on the hotel lawn overlooking beautiful Keauhou Bay and the instructor is great; she accommodates all levels. Check out Ray's bar after sunset to watch the Manta Ray divers and snorkelers, interesting phenomena. Ray's is a gorgeous setting for sunset viewing too. The rooms are very nice, recently been updated with comfortable beds. The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay at the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay and look forward to returning soon.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view room.

I stayed here for a week as part of my first trip to the Big Island (having previously vacationed in Oahu and Maui). Apart from the fact that there is no swimming beach nearby, the location is pretty spectacular. The waves crashing against the lava cliffs and the nighttime viewing of the manta rays never ceased to impress. The large lagoon pool areas are also quite nice, and finding a lounge chair was never really a problem. Rooms and common areas all felt clean. My primary concern was the size and condition of the (supposedly renovated) rooms, which were quite small and not really up to "resort" standards. Also, the walls and doors were incredibly thin, bringing in lots of noise from the hallways and adjoining rooms, so it ended up not being nearly the restful stay I had hoped for. Also, while I highly recommend the ocean view rooms, my particular room was right near Rays on the Bay and I had a lot of restaurant noise while it was open (fortunately, things wind down pretty early there). Probably best to try to stay a bit farther away from the restaurant if you've shelled out for the ocean view room. Staff was mostly pleasant and helpful (especially Troy), though as other reviewers have noted, some were a bit cranky and really need to think about whether or not this is the job for them. Parking was not really a problem, though the self-parking lot gets quite full and is pretty long schlep from the hotel (meaning it's probably worth the extra $7/day for the valet parking for many guests). Finally, I should point out that the crowd was a bit rowdier than I would have expected - lots of shrieking kids, and quite a few foul-mouthed, red-state conservative types (loudly professing their political views) especially around the pool area. Frankly, I had expected a somewhat more upscale clientele. So, all in all, not really the peaceful, pampered resort experience I was hoping for, but mostly redeemed by the stunning location and beautiful views.

Room Tip: Spring for the ocean view rooms, otherwise you'll be looking out over a massive parking lot. Try...

Our ocean-view room had beautiful views, but could have been a little cleaner in the bathroom (I'm picky) which was a bit dated. We couldn't find the 'no housekeeping' sign and the wifi doesn't work at all - stick to the business centre. The pool opening hours are ridiculously short (8am to 8pm) but the pool itself is nice. Drop by the restaurant to watch the manta rays, but eat elsewhere - the food was very overpriced for the quality (the worst dinner we had on the island) and the wine list is pathetic. Oh, and there's a hefty mandatory resort fee in addition to your room cost - with very little benefits.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter but everywhere has noise from the pool.

We spent 10 days here and had what I'd politely describe as a mixed experience. On the plus side, location is good and price is fairly reasonable. Swimming pool layout is good, especially if you have kids. On the negative side, our room had bugs (ants? that crawled over my wife and her laptop while she was working); intermittent and inconsistent housekeeping (we had to call two days running to get the room made up); and questionable food arrangements. The low point on food was trying to get lunch poolside (the only place open) on a rainy day and waiting, and waiting for it to arrive. Fish was cold, tacos stale. All in all, the Sheraton could do a much better job in a number of areas.

Sheraton Kona just completed renovation. The property has beautiful gardens. Our room was spacious. It was a mountain view room, but looked over parking lot and trees blocked view of Mauna Loa. There are 3 restaurants plus coffee shop, however, Ainakai is only open for breakfast at $25 for buffet, Holua poolside bar and grill only open for lunch and Rays on the Bay only open for dinner. See my review for Rays. Our room was 4267, which was in wing 4, on 2nd floor. It was right by the elevator that was closest to the parking lot, so everyone used this elevator when leaving or returning to the hotel. the elevator door was just outside our door. It took a while for us to discern what the constant noise was, thinking it was coming from the bathroom. Then realized we could hear the elevator, which was constantly running until around midnight, then was quiet until about 4-5 am. We decided we could tolerate the noise, but I was glad to finally leave. Also , one night we had problem finding a parking space as there was a dance in the convention hall next to hotel that night. The valet parking lot was closest to the hotel, so you had to walk farther from the back parking lot. It would make more sense for the valet parking to be further away than the other lot.

Room Tip: Do not get room near elevator on wing 4.

Sheraton Kona was just beautiful. Location was perfect, and the grounds were amazing. The staff was friendly upon check in and the room was fabulous! The bed was super comfortable, and the view amazing. We didn't have our children with us this trip but could see this hotel was perfect for families also. They had washer and dryers, and a sand bottom lagoon on one side of the pool for smaller children. The drinks we had at the poolside bar were delicious, and the food just as good. The concierge was so helpful at planning our events while in Kona, even though I never wanted to leave the hotel! They had Valet parking and friendly staff greeting you every time you left or arrived back. The restaurant in the hotel is Rays on the Bay. It was simply amazing. The food was superb and the manta rays come right to the edge of the water. You can watch them while you eat. I have never seen anything like it. Overall, I would give this hotel an A+!!!
