Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay

Sheraton Kona does not have any beach. The oceanfront rooms above the oceanfront bar has view of the lava rock cliff. When the wind picks up, from the rooms' lanai you can see dramatic wave crashing into the cliff with spray up to 2 or 3 stories high. When the sea is calm at night, you can see the manta ray night snorkeling happening in about 100 to 200 yards away from the cliff. With good binocular, you get a glimpse of the manta ray swimming. (Highly recommend that you join the manta ray night snorkel cruise by Sea Paradise. It is relatively inexpensive and its boat depart just a short way from Sheraton. If you can snorkel, you must try this. Just hope for calm weather)

The hotel facility is clean and comfortable. Yes, there is a resort fee but internet wi-fi works great. We had a lot of fun at the pool. It was clean and big enough that we didn't feel the spring break crowds like the Maui hotels. The pool water was not cold. The water slide was fun for adults and kids.

Breakfast buffet was fine. Good selection of local fruits. Wish that there was more selections of local flavored breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful. The front desk corrected 2 minor problems very quickly.

Sheraton Kona has big and interesting ground with some history. Beyond the hotel, there is not much to see within walking distance. A few good restaurants in Keahou Shopping Center are within 5 minute drive. Try L&L, a local chain which you can sample what locals eat. Kahaluu Bay is a good beginner snorkeling place close by.

Room Tip: Try the ocean front room with the view of lava rock cliff and manta bay.

The pros: location is close to airport and other tourist attraction (u still need a car for sure), the cafe downstairs is good, proximity to manta rays pretty cool, the rooms are clean and just overall things are ok
The cons: staff all seem so miserable, there is no control of people at the pool (a bunch of teenagers were having fun in the hot tub at 530am and no one shooed them out even though they were super loud), tons of kids (if you have a family I suppose that's a pro), rays on the bay is over priced for average food (service was sooo average at best)

Great location - just a 5 min walk from the municpal boat launch that provides so many fantastic aquatic excursions through Fair Winds and Dolphin Discoveries. Travelers should know there is no beach or access to the ocean from the property, but views from the rugged cliffs are wonderful. Had to settle for the 3 story waterslide (and yes, I'm an adult without children!). Service is universally the most friendly I have experienced in all the islands, however, not the most knowledgeable. (Don't count of the Flying Fish Outfitters for any help or guidance on local snorkeling, boating, equipment, etc. I'm not sure what they do, but they're real nice while not doing it.) Luckily, they guys at the Valet Desk got it down: They are super efficient and know EVERYTHING. Ronald is amazing and has the whole island wired. He can tell you ANYTHING you need to know. He made our trip. Points of interest that hotel guests should be aware of: Hot water seems to come and goe on a 2 min cycle. Elevators in our wing worked 1.5 days out of 5. (And we were Ocean Front, Starwood Preferred - which I think is one of the best areas.) Great in-room storage (closets, 6 drawers + big baskets under the bathroom vanity to keep toiletries from becoming a mess). WiFi worked well. Restaurants and bar closes by 10pm, and reservations are HIGHLY recommended - every night. My husband and I are dedicated foodies, and we were quite happy with our meals at the main restaurant. Well prepared and presented. The pool is full of happy kids who are actually interacting with new friends and not playing video games - which has a real charm. Pool noise was NOT heard in the rooms. We checked out the Fairmont to the North, but even with the intermittent hot water and elevator issues, we'd choose the Sheraton again for location and friendliness.

We recently stayed 3 nights at the Sheraton Kona and would recommend the hotel not only for its location but also the service and available amenities.
It is slightly off the main tourist strip, but is worth the drive. Built on lava and volcanic earth the resort has beautiful views, especially from the restaurant ( Rays on the Bay). We watched the sunset whilst enjoying good food and friendly service 2 out our 3 nights there. Kids facilities are great including a large pool and impressive waterside. Good breakfast overlooking, once again, the magical view.

This was our second stay at Sheraton Kona and we were not disappointed! We were using our spg points and were upgraded to a partial ocean view. While we didn't have a great view of the water but when you combined it with the mountains it was beautiful. The room was nice and was renovated two years ago when we first stayed here. The beds were hard and in need of being replaced but we liked the room otherwise. The pool was beautiful and we never had a hard time finding a place to relax whether it was in the sun or shade. Sheraton is still hanging on to their towel cards but I hope they will become a thing of the past like they have at other resorts. The concierge staff was really helpful at suggesting activities including the free ones. The sunsets in the evening were breathtaking and something you must not miss!

My sister's wedding was held here, and everything was beautiful. Our room was clean and spacious. We loved relaxing by the pool and even going for a few runs down the water slide. I enjoyed their gym and even ran around the property a few mornings. I will return!
