Owner description: Since the day the Big Island Country Club opened to rave reviews in 1997, it has been on the "must play" list of the golfing visitor to Hawaii's Big Island. That's not only because of its spectacular location and scenic beauty, but equally because of its well-deserved reputation as a course that welcomes both the novice player as well as the low-handicap expert. The course is simultaneously enjoyable yet challenging, and is designed for every level of playing ability. Designed by famed golf course architect Perry Dye, son of Pete Dye, the par 72 course has all the popular attributes and interesting features that make his layouts so popular to golfers of varying skills: wide, gently rolling bermuda grass fairways, medium-size undulating Bent grass greens, and an abundance of water.

If you golf, this is the spot!!! As nice and expensive as the resort courses can be, they are all way too hot in the summer. Much cooler and pleasant at Big Island C.C. Also check the wind conditions before you play anywhere north of the airport. The course is set in a gorgeous country side setting, lots of mammals, birds and other creatures roaming around. Fantastic views!! The people are the friendliest starting with Herman(sp) and all the other shop helpers and starters. Also the beverage cart is the best equipped and reasonably priced around. Take it from someone who lives and plays golf weekly or so here on The Big Island Of Hawaii, Big Island Country Club is fantastic!

Has potential for a great golf course If only it wasn't for the crappy shape the course is in. Had ball stopped several times by rows of mowed grass and the greens plain sucked.

I love this course. It is challenging, but playable. That is if you can play with all the beautiful scenery, animals and birds, including nenes, turkeys, francolins and more.

My husband is a 7 handicap and is still challenged by this course. I am a beginner, but am still able to play and enjoy the course.

There is water on some holes including an island green as beautiful as any you've seen, anywhere.

One of the nicest things about this course is how nice all the staff are. We have had unpleasant experiences with golfers at Makalei that really soured me on that course. We've had nothing but enjoyable experiences at Big Island CC.

You will really enjoy the weather here - probably the best on the island. The temperature is more pleasant at the higher altitude. It is also right in-between the wet and dry side, so you almost always get some sun, some clouds, less wind than many courses, and very little rain.

This course is set in Hawaii's up country. Decent course with lots of diversity and a few forced carries. (Water) Condition are good but not excellent. It's a beautiful course to look at with wildlife. Fair amount of bang for the dollar. Definitely worth the time to play! About $65 to $50 dollars. As others have mentioned the facilities are minimal.

I play here all the time and really enjoy it. Herman runs the show inside and is a big sweetie. Mark, Nick and Jim take extra special care of your clubs and get you set up for your round. They never forget to tell you pin placement. The course has been revamped since new ownership took over and is extremely playable. Check out the new restrooms between #9 and #10; fancy! Another thing I like about Big Island Country Club is it's relatively new and the women and seniors get a decent tee box placement. Thanks! Save a little energy for the last three holes. #16 is a par 5 with an elevated green, #17, the dreaded island green and #18, a long par 4 with water along the entire left side between tee box and green. The kamaaina rates are good and tourists don't get ripped off either. BIg Island probably has the best rates avaiable for non-island residents. Oh, one more thing, the elevation keeps this course cool and not a lot of rain or wind.
