I had never stayed at a B&B before, but after reading all these positive reviews I thought it would be a good time to try one. I was truly impressed with the experience.

I am not much of a writer, but would simply echo what everyone else has said:

The grounds are beautiful. The rooms are well appointed. The Gourmet Breakfast is a delight. Dave and Wendi really do an outstanding job.

This was our first trip to the Big Island and Wendi & Dave made us feel very welcome, particularly as we were fellow Aussies! The house is in a beautiful setting, with lush gardens and lots of birds, geckos etc. We loved having the cats around, as we missed our pets at home.
Wendi and Dave were very helpful with tourist activities. They recommended the best beaches for bodyboarding and snorkelling, and even lent us the bodyboards, snorkel equipment, towels, beach chairs... and even gave us a cooler bag full of food to take with us on our days out! I couldn't have asked for better service and don't think I've ever had such wonderful hosts in all the places I've stayed!
The accommodation is clean and comfortable, with lots of fresh air. We had the most wonderful breakfast each morning, and you could help yourself to an assortment of tea, coffee and oatmeal at any time. Wendi and Dave are very accommodating to your dietary requirements and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. I couldn't recommend this B&B higher.

Staying with Wendi & Dave was probably the highlight of our two week Hawaiian holiday. The breakfasts were delicious, the room was a delight to sleep in, the generous giving of time and information was invaluable. They were the perfect hosts and demonstrated 5 star service to all their guests while we were there. They have inspired us to provide a similar experience with our home in Bali. We hope to one day use their exceptional level of hospitality, as something to aim for.

Room Tip: The Lani room was superb. The attention to detail were excellent. My advice would be whatever length...

Wendi & David set a new bar for what I now expect from a Bed & Breakfast, but it would be unfair to hold other places to their standard, it's like expecting all golfers to be Tiger Woods.

We were welcomed in our room with freshly cut flora, beautifully arranged by Wendi, in various parts of our suite (we stayed in the Mala Hale Bungalow).

The breakfasts were just simply amazing, no other words for what they served.

Everything was just great. They love what they do, and it shows in all the details. Highly recommended.

As most of the reviews have stated, the Honu Kai, with Wendi and Dave as your hosts, is truly a wonderful place to stay on the Big Island. It is evident that they love being hosts at their beautiful home and are most willing to share it with you. From the welcoming MaiTai in the largest pineapple we've ever seen, to the suggestions for places to visit, to the beautifully decorated rooms, to the delicious breakfasts, to providing you with all necessary equipment for any sport you decide to do, Wendi and Dave deliver!!!!!
We've stayed in many B&B's in many locations, but can honestly say that Honu Kai is truly our favorite. We'd almost consider coming back to the Big Island, only to stay here!!

Wendi and Dave made our stay on the Big Island a time to remember. After a long day of traveling from the Midwest, Kona Dave served us a beautiful Mai Tai for two in a pineapple upon our arrival. Our room - the Nigori Suite - was beautifully decorated and very clean with many personal touches. Wendi and Dave were so welcoming and it felt so good to just sit there and relax and talk with them. It was evident they truly enjoy sharing their home with all their guests and are very passionate about the Big Island, their beautiful property, and each other. They gave us great recommendations for dinner and for things to do on the island. The breakfast entree's were not only delicious but beautifully presented with pastries, a plate of fresh fruit, and a different hot entree each morning. The minute we walked out of our room in the morning they were there to offer us a cup of coffee and asked how our night was. Talk about being spoiled..... We were only there for two days and wish we could have stayed longer. We are looking forward to our next visit to the Big Island and Honu Kai.

I've never stayed in a B&B before and I am now convinced that this is the way to vacation when traveling to the islands. Wendi and Dave are amazing! I miss them already! Every morning, I looked forward to what fresh fruit and breakfast items would be served. I also looked forward to just taking to both Wendi and Dave. During our day trips, they gave us thorough directions and packed us snacks, a cooler, and beach towels! Couldn't ask for more!
They also have mosquito repellant (even deet free for people like me who are allergic) and sunscreen.
