“Beautiful relaxing Inn”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hale Maluhia Country Inn while visiting this side of the island.
Our room was the Maile room which was very clean and comfortable with bed, dresser, nightstand and shower bathroom. Our friends were in the larger Jasmine room upstairs with the sloped ceiling. They had a mini fridge to keep our picnic foods. Very relaxing, beautiful tropical grounds with lots of birds to watch during breakfast on the side porch in the morning. We looked forward to the 8:00-9:00am breakfast which was very good and of course, all the birds and turkeys who came to the feeder. There are several small flowing ponds with fish to add to the beauty of this place. It was very convenient for all our excursions on this side of the island. They also were gracious enough to let us do a load of clothes laundry. The large kitchen and several living rooms are common areas. We prepared our own dinner one evening and dined on the side porch.
My husband left items in the dresser drawer and they promptly mailed them back to us at our request. They certainly believe in "Do Unto Others." We would certainly stay here again and recommend it to others.

This was a wonderfully relaxing place to stay in all aspects but one... not being Christian it was uncomfortable to be exposed by the overt religiousness of one of the staff. It's great that he "stands with Jesus," but I don't want to be prayed for by a stranger, or have anyone's personal religious beliefs served up to me with coffee in the morning.

First, I would like to thank these guests for the 5 rating on TripAdvisor, our staff does try very hard to give our guests the best peaceful experience possible at Hale Maluhia.Country Inn, (house of peace.) I did speak with my manager about this issue and he remembers it as a gentle religious discussion with two sides. He did not feel he was out of line for the conversation or was being intrusive. It is definitely against our policy to accost anyone about anything at our "House of Peace" unless they are being disorderly. That we are Christians hoping to share the love of our Great Creator, we are guilty. As Jesus taught, we truly do try to love everyone who stays with us. We are somewhat puzzled as to why TripAdvisor gave us a 4 when the guests gave us a 5 ???

We stayed there from Dec30 to Jan2. We could have the new year day in the quiet, peaceful place! Kailua Kona and Keauhou are not far from there and we could choose fine dining places. The owner and the manager are very helpful and kind. Breakfast is always very nice and we could have fresh waffles and omelette every morning. There were few insects and very comfortable on the rocking chair outside in the evening. We strongly recommend the wonderful experience staying there!

I only spent a single night here, but I will be back next time I'm on the Big Island. The rooms were well kept, the people were friendly, and the breakfast was fantastic. This B&B is located just outside of Kailua town, but it feels like it's hidden in the mountains. Very nice place!

We really enjoyed our stay. It has a down home comfortable feel. The grounds are so full of life, and you feel like you have step into a new world. If you are exempting resort standards, this may disappoint, it bring some entirely different and special. Clean, reasonable, and unique.

We stayed in the Japanese Tea House room, it was clean, cozy and larger than I had expected. We had an early check in and the room was ready for us when we arrived which was great. Out hosts were knowledgeable and incredibly friendly, suggesting some good local eats, a local art fair and Captain Cook Cove for snorkeling and seeing spinner dolphins. The temperature in our room was comfortable and while it is on a main road, we had no trouble sleeping. Although sadly we were always out too early every morning to enjoy the breakfast, it looked like they had a great set up. Overall, I liked it...

Our biggest disappointment was that the photos on the website are really make this place seem very spread out and in a wooded area, rather than sitting in the middle of a suburb. While I read over most of the info on the site & I realized it was off a county road, the photos really suggest that the property itself is very secluded. We found it wasn't quite as much of a romantic getaway as a I had thought it would be. We could also hear our neighbors in the house next door, which also made it feel less private.

If your looking for something romantic or a little off the grid, this is probably not the place for you. However if your looking for a friendly place with a more local feel in a convenient location, go for it.

Room Tip: Not sure if other rooms are quieter, but the sliding door lets some noise in. Has a private bathroom...
