Loved how the monkey pod tree completely shaded the entire complex. Hard to believe.

First, thank you Ken, Sue & Staff for making my trip to Hawaii so wonderful. I stayed in the Banyan Cottage for 9 days and felt right at home. The Cottage is very charming, very rustic, very private, very Bohemian. I felt like I was living in the tree-tops and there was a beautiful lush view from every window. The front facade of the cottage is adorable with a private front porch with an interesting corner post made from reclaimed lumber and an old aged front door. At the rear of the cottage is an elevated private deck with a comfortable porch swing. The cottage interior has old hewn wood plank floors with throw rugs, a high-vaulted beamed ceiling and extra-extra large windows. There is also an antique writing desk which came in handy (during my stay I imagined that perhaps Hemingway had once composed at this desk.) The cottage has a small kitchenette with under-counter refrig, micowave, and sink , a large private bath, a sleeping alcove and large living/dining areas.. There is a king sized bed with a comfortable (not too soft----not too hard) mattress. The large picture window over the bed is a great place to view the evening stars....and if you are as lucky as I....to view a big fat full moon. Parking for the cottage is very convenient and private. The jacuzzi is within a short stroll from the cottage (tell them in the morning that you would like to use the jacuzzi so they can heat it up.). Breakfast is served at the main house (just a short walk) and consists of fresh fruits, juices, breads, omlettes, and coffee. The beach is approx. 3 miles away. Up the road from the cottage is the charming Holualoa Village. So....if you like privacy and a rustic charming environment, then the Banyan Cottage is the place to stay. The cottage is not for those that want everything perfect....but rather for those that want to get back to a comfortable, simple way of life (but still with modern conveniences at hand.) I returned from my vacation with many fond memories. Aloha.

I enjoyed my stay at this B&B and enjoyed the well groomed grounds . The Inn Keepers Ken and Sue, and Spiros were very helpful to me and available through-out the day, the room was fresh thanks to Spiros.

Breakfast spread in the morning was fantastic! Consisting of fresh baked bread to die for, pastries, local tropical fruits i.e. Papaya, banana, Passion Fruit, white pineapple! Local Kona coffee, and you can make your own whatever with fresh eggs at the breakfast bar! Flower arrangements prepared daily by Sue were most excellent! Great touch! The location is close to town, but away from the crowds. Ample parking and all staff available for all your requests. The hot tub clean and comfortable and was nice to relax after a day of hiking at the Volcano National park and snorkeling in Captain Cook town! Great place to have peace and quiet! Would highly suggest you stay more than a few nights as you get the feel of home touch class that makes vacationing in Kona your ultimate stay!

We stayed in Maile room for 6 nights in January 2009. Ken, Sue and all the staff were super nice and accommodating. Just as other reviewers said, the breakfast on the lanai was fabulous in no small part due to fresh eggs from the chickens living on the premises and Ken's own bread. We chose Ken's place because of the positive reviews on TripAdvisor and also because Sue was extremely helpful on the phone while I was doing a bit of pre-trip research. Can't wait to go back!

Thank you to our hosts Ken and Sue and Kryste, and to their gardner, Mike, for making this an exceptionally pleasant stay for 10 nights in May. The accomodations were clean and comfortable, the grounds were beautiful and the location was perfect. I'm still telling friends about the great breakfasts and coffee, and, most importantly, about our hosts, who exemplified the aloha spirit. I'll never forget sitting on the beautiful lanai after breakfast chatting with the owner Ken. In those peaceful moments, he became a friend.

We stayed here 10 days and could not have been more comfortable. We stayed in the smallest room at the B&B and it was, while small, very comfortable. The staff which consitsted of the owners , and their daughter as well as a gardner could not have been more accomadating and friendly. The rooms are cleaned and made up daily.
Breakfast consists of a make your own omlet bar, fresh fruit, fresh home made bread and pastries. More than enough to start your day. The coffee is of course Kona with pleanty for several cups.
If you are looking for a fancy place to relax and be waited on this is not the place for you. It is however a quiet, friendly place to stay while you explore the island during the day.
Thank you all for a lovely time.

We stayed in the Makua Room at Hale Maluhia for 3 days in May 2009 and it was simply the most wonderful B&B that we have ever been experienced. The hosts, Ken and Sue, could not have been friendlier, the accommodations were clean, the breakfast of fresh breads baked daily accompanied by fruit, juices, eggs any style, meats and pastries was astounding. Whether we were relaxing in the living room, enjoying the birds and other wildlife on the lanai, walking through the gardens or easing tired muscles in the hot tub at the end of a long day Hale Maluhia provided for our every need and represents an outstanding place for travelers. The location is perfect for exploring the Kona area, close to the beaches, Petroglyphs and other sites without the congestion and humidity of being on the beach. This was the culmination of our 3 week holiday in the Islands and we were truly sorry that we had to leave. Definitely recommend Hale Maluhia to anybody that is visiting the Kona area.
