I have no idea why there are so many favorable reviews of Hale Maluhia "Country Inn." My husband and I were so disappointed in the shabbiness of this place that it almost ruined our visit to the Big Island. I feel it is important for me to write this review because I chose Hale Maluhia based upon reviews like the others that appear here and I want to be able to warn readers so that they don't make the same mistake that we did. I don't know where others stayed, but we felt like we were staying in the room of some teenager who was off to college. We felt like we were staying at someone's house, but not in the quaint "bed and breakfast" kind of way. It had a rather creepy feeling to us rather than warm and inviting. It was particularly hard for us to come from wonderful lodging at Hale Ohia in Volcano to this lodging. (We highly recommend Hale Ohia!)Don't choose Hale Maluhia expecting to find something charming - or even very clean for that matter.
