“Nice Condo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2004

I stayed at the Kona Makai back in June. Unfortunately we only stayed there for 2 short nights. The grounds are well kept; grassy areas with lawn furniture go right down to the lava shoreline. Our unit was on the top floor with a beautifully decorated master bedroom (gorgeous sleigh bed and pineapple brass lamps) with its own balcony and another loft bedroom. It was clean and well furnished with up-to-date kitchen appliances. There were ants in the kitchen, but not out of control. With our limited time we didn't get to use the pool, bbq or spa, but the sunset was fabulous even in the rare drizzle the first night we were there. I met some residents who were friendly and who still go to the shore to watch the sunsets almost nightly. The only drawback is that there are no elevators, so carrying luggage upstairs was difficult. I had checked this with the rental agency beforehand, so it was not a surprise. And there is only one parking area, so if you are on the other side of the property you have to walk across the lawn. Overall, I would definitely recommend Kona Makai.

We have stayed at this property every year for the past 14 years. It's a wonderful location, the grounds and units are well kept with a friendly, conscientious staff. Highly recommend it!

This is a wonderful place to stay. I have stayed here twice now. It's quiet, it's in a lovely garden setting and the condos are large and very well equiped. All the units have lanais with a partial ocean view.

I have stayed at the Kona Makai condominiums many times and just love the condo, the ocean views and the gorgeous grounds. The pool is right on the ocean as are the pool, hot tub and BBQ grills. Guests gather each evening on
chairs in front of the pool (which is right on the water) to watch the gorgeous Pacific sunsets and, maybe even, see the green flash. We've stayed in building 2 which is thought, by the full-time residents, to be the best building in the complex.
It is 1.5 miles from Kona and we walked to town for our breakfasts every day or to the local farmers market. We paid $90/night for a one bedroom unit with a full kitchen and washer/dryer. Such a bargain for Kona!
