We had dinner at the Garden Restaurant midweek, and were the only customers all evening!. The restaurant is slightly off the main road at ISkele. The setting was charming, an enclosed oasis in the otherwise barren landscape. The owners pride themselved on their garden, and keep it meticulously watered and tidy. Tables have little lanterns, and the whole effect was very pretty. We understand that the restaurant is very popular for weddings over the weekend.
We were going to order the set menu which appeared good value at 30TL per person, but we were told that that would be much too much to eat, and was really only for a long and leisurely Friday or Saturday evening. Strangley, we have never been told that when ordering elsewhere! So we opted for individual mezes, and chicken shish. Portions were fairly small compared with other restaurants, and the chicken a little dry. Most memorable was the ice cream and crystallised walnuts, which we ordered for dessert, and we've never come across this on the menu anywhere else. The meal for 4 including beers and soft drinks, but no wine, came to just under 200TL, plus tip, which turned out to be the most expensive meal of our 2 week holiday! Not expensive by UK standards, but there are so many other restaurants to choose from. For a quiet romantic setting however, this is hard to beat.
