As others have said, this is not a tourist place. The locals eat here, and was recommended by the guy who rented us his house. The halibut is very lightly breaded and is absolutely the best whitefish we've both ever had. I can't say enough. The steamer clams, also the best we've ever had.
The service, no the wait for the food, yes it was a BIT slow, however, they cook TO ORDER and it is fresh seafood, no pre-prep. We almost never remember our wait staff's name (yes, shame on us), however, Candy, we do remember. She was the only waitress working and had about 8 tables with 2-6 people each. She was extremely professional and friendly, much more than you'd ever expect in a place like this. Just a consummate professional. Even more impressive because of the locals and tourist we are sure she deals with every day.
Do NOT judge a book by its cover. We saw at least 3 groups of people walk in, look around and walk right out. This is our kind of place.
We have now had some of the best meals we've had in years in places like this since we've been in Alaska.
The collector liquor bottles on the walls are the equivalent of places like the Jim Beam brewery.
Don't miss this place if you are in Seward, but then again, the fewer tourists the better. Hard to say....don't ruin it for everybody else.
