Alaska Saltwater Lodge Small Group Whale Watching, Wildlife & Glacier Tour
Reviewed 8 October 2013

We had a fantastic day out on this trip , there were only 14 people on the boat this ensured the guides had plenty of time for everyone and there was plenty of room to move around . We saw so much wildlife such as Orcas, humpback whales, dolphins and seals. The scenery was breath taking especially the glaciers. The guide and captain were especially good with our children. There was no issue with food as I have seen on previous posts. Highly recommended.

Our boat, the Steller Sunrise, left the small boat harbor at Seward with 14 aboard, including Captain Tanya and deck hand Clay, for a 10 hour day on the water. There was plenty of room aboard for everyone. Tanya was excellent at finding and pointing out wildlife, while Clay was very well prepared and full of information about everything we saw. We got real close to Holgate glacier just in time to see a nice chunk of ice fall into the sea. Clay netted a piece of the crystal clear glacial ice for everyone to pass around. We saw orcas, otters, puffins, sea lions, seals, dolphins, several eagles plus lots of other sea and shore birds.. We were served a sandwich and chips for lunch and there was plenty of coffee and hot water for cocoa and tea as well as water and sodas. After lunch, cookies were served and later, as we made our way back in, fruit, cheese and crackers appeared. The best part of the trip was being part of such a small group, so there was never any competition for a place to sit, stand or view anything. I highly recommend Saltwater Tour.

We thoroughly enjoyed our small boat tour with Tanya and Clay, it's the only way to go! Clay is a very nice young man (congrats again on your engagement) who took time to speak with everyone. We felt comfortable and safe with Tanya at the helm. We saw many of the animals people have mentioned here however the high lite was seeing a pod of Orcas. Tanya spent some time manoeuvring the boat around to allow us to have a great view but keeping a decent distance not to interfere with the whales. We never expected to see them, what a bonus!

We would recommend this tour to anyone, don't go on a big boat, Saltwater have the knowledge to give you a great day at sea.

This was a wonderful 10 hour trip with Tanya and Nick and a total of six guests. So glad we chose the small boat option rather than one of the big boats you see listing to port when 100+ whale-watchers rush to one side! Tanya was great at spotting wildlife and getting our smaller boat up close and personal with whales, Dall porpoises, sea otters, sea lions, Harbor seals, puffins.... We also sat for a while on glassy water beside Aialik Glacier watching chunks of ice crash into the sea. One of the best days of almost three weeks in Alaska! Highly recommend!

This was my third excursion ,second with Salt Water. By far smaller is better. Leif and Nick were fabulous hosts. The weather was bad but the sea was calm we saw whale, puffins on rocks, sea lions, tons of birds ,including several eagles. We had three or four Dall dolphins leading our boat ,that was really awesome , saw a sea lion eating a fish while the sea gulls enjoyed what was left over. Turned out to be the best trip ever. Leif drove the boat into a cave , well kinda it was spectacular. Three hole rock was worth seeing and Holgate did not dissapoint . I will recommend this to anyone. Thanks again for a great trip.
