Renfro's Lakeside Retreat

This cabin was just what we needed after 2 weeks of driving around Alaska! We went into Seward for dinner and picked up some supplies for breakfast for the next morning. Having a home cooked breakfast was just what we needed! The lake was beautiful, and I wish we could have had more time there. All in all, a great place, at a great price, highly recommended. Even thou we were just a part of 2, we would say, this would be a great place for a family with the roominess of the cabins.

My wife & I stayed at Renfro's Aug 19-21, 2006 and had a great experience. We stayed in one of the cabins in the woods one night and a lakeside cabin the following two. The well thought-out lay-out was similar for both of them, and I would recommend either in a heartbeat (only real difference is one had a tub and the other had a shower in the bath).

Sharon was especially pleasant & helpful with questions & coordination before we even arrived. The kitchenette included cooking utensils, enough tableware to help feed a small family, stove/oven, refrigerator, coffeemaker, & toaster. If they add a microwave in the future that would be nice, but we "roughed" it just fine without it.

Food Tip - There are 2 Costco's in Anchorage, if you want to stock up there on your way down, but Sharon tipped us off that there was a new Safeway in Seward, just 20 miles south, that had everything too (and they did).

Overall, we really enjoyed having our own little private retreat just out of town and we'll probably stay there again if we ever make it back to the Kenai Peninsula.

It was everything that we anticipated. You know when you are selecting a location thousands of miles away from the internet, you never really know what you will get. Many times, the actual location doesn't look anything like the website photos. This one doesn't either. Actually, it looks better! I don;t know when we will get the opportunity again to visit Alaska, but if we do, you can be assured we will be staying at Renfro's Retreat.

Was looking for lodging at a reasonable rate, in the Seward area, and hit the jackpot with Renfro's. Why stay in busy Seward, and miss the feel of Alaska, when you can stay in a new and VERY clean cabin overlooking a lake? The views were outstanding! So many of the lodgings we saw were right on the highway, but Renfro's is set in the woods, about 20 miles north of Seward. We stayed 4 days there. Cabins on the lake sleep 5 (a loft with queen bed upstairs for privacy), modern bathroom, kitchen was good, but could have used a microwave. Hosts provide a paddleboat for use on the lake free! Laundry on site.

While we were there we visited Exit glacier (bring shoes that can get wet, so that you dont have to jump across rocks), did a cruise of the glaciers in Whittier and Seward (my 1st choice would be either Major Marine or Kenai Fjords tour in Seward. Don't bother with the bay tour, you wont see an active glacier...go with a 6-8 hour tour. Loved the food on Major Marine. The Whittier tour stops at more glaciers but we saw very little wildlife), and we also took a wild dog sled ride with Ididaride. We took a whole day to drive to Homer and back, but was disappointed with the shops on the spit. We took the Skilag loop road and saw a moose and calf. There were tons of bald eagle north of Homer.

The cabin was great. We had fires every nite and rostated hot dogs and Marshmellows. The fishing was nothing.

Once you got over the initial clutter around the grounds the cabin and lake were great. We had a great time and if we go back to Alaska I would not hesistate to stay here again.
