Owner description: Alaska Fjord Charters operates custom multi-day adventures into Kenai Fjords National Park and the surrounding waters. Our guests experience an Alaska that most will never see: tranquil coves with harbor seals, opportunities to enjoy a meal in front of calving glaciers, and wildlife with only your closest friends and family around you. Our vessel the Darby is outfitted with top of the line kayaks, a 16 ft skiff, and excellent fishing gear. Accommodations include a partially sheltered aft deck, fly bridge, and pilot house. Our heated salon converts to bunking quarters and has two heads with showers. She is tended by a culinary trained chef and US Coast Guard licensed captain and naturalist. The Darby can accept up to six guests.

We took an Alaskan cruise a few years ago and it fell short on delivering an authentic Alaskan experience. If you want to see the real Alaska, one that will leave you in awe and virtually speechless, charter the Darby for a least 3 days. My wife and I were in Alaska for 2 weeks and this was by far the best part of our trip. Bob and his lovely daughter, Kinsey, were our hosts and they were VERY accommodating, friendly, customer-focused, knowledgeable and accomplished boaters. We fished, kayaked, hiked, and did pretty much anything we wanted over the 3 days. We saw whales, porpoises, sea otters, seals, eagles, and many, many other kinds of fish, animals and wildlife. And, the sights were simply stunning. The food was great too. I've got nothing but great things to say about this adventure. The bathrooms and sleeping arrangements were as expected on a boat of this size. We LOVED this trip!!! If you have any questions, feel free to ask Bob to put you in contact with me.

We spent three days, two nights out on the Darby with Bob and his daughter Alison, and it was the highlight of our Alaska trip. Fantastic animal sightings (orca, harbor porpoise, sea lions, puffins, sea otters), spectacular peak-surrounded coves with waterfalls coming down on all sides, glacier hikes and other great view hikes, and great sea kayaking. Bob knows how to find the fish (we caught lots of salmon & tasty rock fish), and Alison really knows how to put together a great meal. Both are great with kids -- our 14-year-old nephew said afterwards, "they were really cool people--it was like a trip with good friends!"

If you are looking for a cruise ship type experience, the Darby is NOT for you. If you want to explore the Kenai fjords at your own pace, see tons of great stuff, fish for your diner, and do some hikes with no crowds or boatloads of cruise ship people, this is the trip for you.

We went with two families of 3, for a total of 6 guests, and we all had one of the best vacations ever, even though the weather was less than perfect. Bob runs a great operation, is knowledgable and safe captain, knows a ton about the wildlife, and knows how, where and when to fish. He has 3 very nice kayaks on the boat so we were able to paddle about and get up close and personal with some great scenery and wildlife. Last, but not least, Bob and his daughter Alison kept us very well fed.

Three days and two nights boating around the fjords was perfect for us. One bit of advice, if someone in your group snores, bring some ear plugs as the sleeping arrangements are a bit cramped. This is not a complaint, just a fact as the Darby is NOT a cruise ship. With the smaller size, it can go into areas that larger ships cannot, which was more important to us than having a luxurious suite with a jacuzzi. Remember, this is Alaska !

If you like adventure style eco-tourism, Alaska Fjord Charters is one of the best trips you can ever take and worth every penny.

Blue skies may have had something to do with it. The real winner was the Barnwell family. They made this the best vacation we've ever taken together, which is saying a lot. We saw the wildlife, explored the scenery, ate the food - even swam. We talked, played cards, hiked and kayaked together. We also soaked up the peace, silence and space. There couldn't be a better way to experience Alaska than this.
Thank you Bob, Kenzie and all the family.

We spent 3 days and 2 nights on the Darby and Bob and his daughter Alison provided the best experience possible. The Darby is just the right size and lets you get up close and personal with all the Kenai has to offer. Bob is funny, personable, and knowledgeable and Alison is the best first mate you can find. We anchored in quiet coves for our lunches and spent peaceful nights with fabulous views. Bob knows how to put you in position to see wildlife of all kinds from Orcas to Humbacks, to otters, seals, sea lions, puffins, eagles, and much much more. But the best part of all was the relaxed atmosphere of the whole trip. You can see many of the same things on one of the tour boats, but we got to stay longer and go places the tour boats can't go. Meeting Bob and Alison was like getting together with old friends. Then you add the food Mary Lynn, Bob's wife prepared for us and you have a trip of a lifetime.
