“Rooms RIDICULOUSLY SMALL ! whoa overpriced!”
Reviewed 30 October 2008

This place was really really dissapointing. I booked this room for three nights for three people, they said a roll away would fit in our room, it didn't. We had to switch rooms, and then it barely fit in the next one. It fit exactly between one bed and the wall, completely blocking the sliding glass door. Forget windows.

The beds themselves were small, I would say that they weren't even fulls, making them impossible for two adults to share.

Rooms were RIDICULOUSLY SMALL.

You could tell that they are tried to sweeze the maximum amount of rooms in the hotel so they could max out the profit during the summer. It was just renovated, blah blah blah, yeah it's newer but the spaces totally suck.

There is nothing generous or relaxing about this hotel, I expected for paying $275 a night a decent sized room that didn't make me feel like i was tripping over my family. The bathroom was a shower stall and toilet squished in a space that was maybe 5 feet.. The sink and counter was the smallest it could be located in the bedroom.

The lobby was totally stark. There is not much to do in Seward at night so having a nice room is important.

The only things that I liked was the location.

If you can't tell, I feel ripped off.

We stayed at the Hotel the weekend of Sept 6-8,2008. The hotel had been renovated and it was great. The location was perfect especially if you dont have a car at your disposal. It is right down town and walking distance to the Boat Harbour. We stayed in a Bay view room room with balcony which was perfect. It overlooked the Bay and was non smoking. The room was big and very comfortable. The continental breakfast in the morning was not perfect but that was the only thing that we could find wrong with the Edgewater. I would reccommend staying in the balcony suite if at all possible because the other rooms are not nearly as nice , They also have a shuttle to the Train Depot and they also have late checkout if you are departing on the train.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Edgewater for 3 days at the end of a cruise which terminated in Seward at the end of August, 2008. The hotel is new. It is functional, with large rooms and for some, a great view of Resurrection Bay. The rooms were nicely decorated, if a little plain. The room had refrigerator and a microwave. Prices are steep for a hotel of this type, but end of August is the end of a short tourist season. The hotel is closed in the winter, so they don't have long to make their money.

Noise is a problem in the hotel. The hotel has drywall and wood frame construction, so noise passes from one room to another. There is no air conditioning, so on a sunny day when your room heats up, you have to open the sliding glass door, which allows street noise to enter the room. There is a parking lot across the street from the waterview rooms that fills with RV"s on weekends, and that leads to even more noise.

The staff is friendly and helpful. There is a free cold breakfast. There is a bar that opens at 3 with a nice selection of beer and wine and mixed drinks.

This is the best hotel in Seward by far. I highly recommend it.

The hotel van was waiting at the train - I wasn't expecting it, but they wait there for every arrival. The hotel is located downtown and has an hourly shuttle to the harbor area (about a mile walk). The hotel looks like it was recently redone.

The room was small, but nicely decorated and really clean. It had a flat screen TV and a DVD player. The rooms do not have air conditioning (I'm not sure it would ever be needed), but they had a fan that we could plug in and move around.

This hotel has some interior rooms thst only look out into an atrium. I would make sure you got an exterior room when booking.

We had a rainy two days in Seward, so we spent a few hours sitting in the lobby by the fireplace.

  • Liked — The decor and the proximity to the Sea Life Center
  • Disliked — The rain (not the hotel's fault!)

Expensive for the accommodations provided, but maybe that's par for the location. Our room was very tight. There's no A/C, so windows must be kept open - but when you're on the first floor looking right out into the street this is a real problem due to privacy and noise. Parking is on the street and is very limited, but we were told that there was a parking lot up the street.

This property is clean and the lobby is attractive. One computer terminal is provided for guest use. Breakfast was typical carb-ladened fare. This hotel is very convenient to the Alaska SeaLife Center, which is across the street, and to a walk along the waterside.

Be sure to specify a room above the first floor!

Since we traveled to Alaska in the prime tourist season we paid top dollar to stay at this hotel. We stayed 3 nights. The first night we were exhausted from traveling, pulled back the sheets and found hair everywhere (my daughter stopped counting at 15 hairs). I don't ever complain at hotels but this had to be brought up. The front desk staff was friendly but didn't seem too concerned. After out room was cleaned the next day we had no soap, no usual supplies, and it was quite obvious the cleaning staff were retailiating for pointing out to the front desk that they hadn't changed the bedding between customers. We didn't say anything for fear of what would happen next. The last night there our room was never cleaned at all. We had the "do not disturb" sign on until 11:00 am because my daughter was alone and was afraid they'd come in while she was in the shower. After 12:00 we had left for a day of sightseeing. When we returned at dinner time our room was the same as when we left it. They had never come in to clean or restock the towels. I'd never stay here again especially at their high summer rates.

  • Liked — The scenery in the area is beautiful.
  • Disliked — The bedding had not been changed between guests.

Sprung for a bayview deluxe room which was an extra we should have skipped. Beds were very comfortable.

Stayed two nights in late July while taking a cruise trip to Kenai Fjords NP. Hotel is across the street from Sea Life Center, but about a mile away from the center of action around the small boat harbor.

If you see the line on the rooms page of their web site that reads "We do have smoking rooms upon request, otherwise the Hotel Edgewater is smoke free." disregard that statement because the hotel is totally smoke-free, can't even smoke on the balconies even tho they are a mere 2-ft away from the public sidewalk where you can, without a $250 fine.

Since the place was remodeled last winter it is a great place to stay if you think the odor of plasticizer outgassing from the furnishings means the place is nice and clean.

Noise is a problem if want to get to sleep early, constant slamming of other room doors from the hallway or talking from neighboring rooms. No a/c, so hope for cool weather. The bar across the street was closed and for sale in late July.

Have to park your car two blocks away if you are not up early enough to get your car off the public street prior to 8 am.

Had a wonderful meal at the Crab Pot restaurant that is up the street and around the corner.
