Another great Best Western hotel in an ideal location within a few blocks of all major downtown points of interest. Very neat and clean.

We spent one night at Hotel Edgewater in Seward. I was a little weary after reading some of the negative comments from other reviewers. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived to Hotel Edgewater after "roughing" it for three days at Denali national park lodging.

The hotel is newly renovated. Everything is new from the decor to the furniture. Our room was spotless and pristine. The only complaint I had was the size of the room which was tiny, even compared to rooms in NYC. There is a microwave, mini fridge, and wireless Internet in the rooms. The beds were comfortable. There is no air conditioning (most hotels in Alaska don't have air conditioning for those that don't know) but the window opens up nicely and the fresh seabreeze is refreshing.

Staff was friendly, helpful and accomodating.

Overall, I would highly recommend Hotel Edgewater.

Dining
Ray's Waterfront has good seafood but for the prices you pay you would expect cloth napkins and better plates than what is used at Luby's. Don't miss the Bakery at Harbourview across from the harbor. They have great pastries, excellent soups.

We stayed for two night in a non-view room. The rooms with view cost significantly more per day. We paid $188 night plus tax for AAA rate. The staff were very helpful. There is a spa on the second floor and a guest laundry in the basement. There is an internet station in the lobby and in the basement. I was doing laundry and used the internet station in the basement. Every 5 minutes one of the staff (very young people :)) came by to ask if I was finished with the internet which was a bit annoying. The room was clean but thrown together in a hurry upon our arrival. The second day cleaning was better but a tip envelope was left by the housekeeping staff person which I have never seen before!
Breakfast was average for the free type breakfasts - instant oatmeal and waffles... Very small room and bath.

This hotel is clean and efficient on first glance and if you were to stay here for one night, it would be fine. We stayed for 3 nights. The room was not cleaned the first night. When we asked for service we were told that they had all gone home. The front desk brought towels and I had them empty the trash. The second day the housekeeper could not have spent more than five minutes in the room. The bed was made by pulling the sheets up to the pillows--as a small child would make the bed. There was still an used washcloth left in the tub. The new towels were in a pile and not folded and replaced on the rack, as most hotels do.

The room and bathroom are very small. The vanity was very tiny. There was no closet, only a small cabinet by the TV. There was a refrigerator and microwave. We had a partial view of the bay...and a full view of the trash dumpster.

The room had no airconditioning and it happened to be very warm during our stay. It was 84 degrees in the room when we arrived as the afternoon sun came right into the room. After two phone calls the hotel did provide a fan. We left the sliding glass door open all night just to cool the room for the next morning.

The only highlight was the bed as it was very comfortable.

The hotel is not a dive...but you should get better service for what you are paying. We have already planned a trip back to Seward next year, but will select a different hotel.
