Excellent front desk staff. Provided great advice on things to do in Seward for diverse family of young kids, Mom and Dad, old hiker and grandma. Gracious about providing extra time to checkout when we were having such a good time with their recommendations we forgot to checkout. Hotel is in very convenient part of town on the waterfront but not near the hectic, busy, loud harbor. Used Best Western points to pay for room. Breakfast OK, typical of BW style plus microwave McMuffin like sandwiches. No eggs and bacon like some other BW's.

We stayed in 9 hotels in Alaska on our 3-week road trip Sept 2009, and 2 hotels during our week-long stay in Seward, which I thought would be our favorite part of Alaska. Naturally, we were going to stay in one hotel, but the bayview room was only available for 4 nights at the Hotel Edgewater. The Hotel Edgewater was my preference because I thought an unfiltered view of Resurrection Bay would be better than a harbour view at the Holiday Inn (see my review). We paid $170 a night for the bay view. And the Hotel Edgewater's view was better although I personally thought the Holiday Inn beat it in just about every other way. I drove into Seward on a rainy Thursday afternoon after a wonderful stay at the Hotel Alyeska in Girdwood - compared to Alyeska, Edgewater's room was a bit of a downer mainly because the furniture was a bit cheap looking but it was still nice enough. It really was the first hotel that had pretty much everything we needed: fridge, microwave, big screen tv, desk, a large corner bathroom, a big laundromat downstairs with a business center, and we had a balcony with a great view of Resurrection Bay. Only problem is - the website's professional photos don't show you that your balcony is not overlooking the water but overlooking the street with the water in the distance. And the street traffic is noisy. Even on a higher floor, you are going to hear noise coming from the traffic and a bar close by. A bunch of hateful-looking teenagers are walking around. Also walking around, however, was a big sweet Saint Bernard, and he or she even had his own crossing and made good use of it. You are in walking distance from all sorts of shops and restaurants and the Sealife Center is almost across the street. Overall, it was really nice; I guess Alyeska had spoiled me. But I loved Seward and I might still consider Hotel Edgewater again for the view alone.

We arrived in Seward without a hotel reservation and the Best Western won based solely on price (we weren't picky, just needed a spot to sleep before our 6:30am charter fishing trip). The room was clean, though the bathroom area was VERY small. There were extra pillows and a fan in the closet. The continental breakfast was ready promptly at 6am for us to take advantage of before heading out on the water. The free wireless in the room was a nice perk, as well.

Another great Best Western hotel in an ideal location within a few blocks of all major downtown points of interest. Very neat and clean.

We spent one night at Hotel Edgewater in Seward. I was a little weary after reading some of the negative comments from other reviewers. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived to Hotel Edgewater after "roughing" it for three days at Denali national park lodging.

The hotel is newly renovated. Everything is new from the decor to the furniture. Our room was spotless and pristine. The only complaint I had was the size of the room which was tiny, even compared to rooms in NYC. There is a microwave, mini fridge, and wireless Internet in the rooms. The beds were comfortable. There is no air conditioning (most hotels in Alaska don't have air conditioning for those that don't know) but the window opens up nicely and the fresh seabreeze is refreshing.

Staff was friendly, helpful and accomodating.

Overall, I would highly recommend Hotel Edgewater.

Dining
Ray's Waterfront has good seafood but for the prices you pay you would expect cloth napkins and better plates than what is used at Luby's. Don't miss the Bakery at Harbourview across from the harbor. They have great pastries, excellent soups.
