Very fun day in Seward. Highly recommend and if you are in shape challenge yourself to run and up down this Mountain. I think you are crazy if you try.

We did the Mt Marathon bowl which can lead up to the top if you're crazy enough to follow it. We went on a cloudy mid June day & had a ball. We were the only ones in the bowl & the clouds cleared while we were there. Freaking. Awesome. Hike was pretty easy in comparison to the Harding one. We started the trail to the top but as I was on hands & knees & only a third of the way up with shaley rock slipping everywhere, we thought it best to abort. Not good on heights but even my mountain goat partner thought it a tad curly. I truly bow down to the runners who do Mt Marathon who must have courage in spades.

Love it. Not for beginners. If you've never hiked it, it's a good idea tos study the trail map before you go up. Better yet, take a picture of it with your camera so you have a "trail map" to consult and make sure you're on track. Getting up to the real Mt Marathon behind race point is even tougher, much tougher.

How people race up that mountain, I'll never know as the hike somewhat challenging. A lot of thick brush at the bottom of the mountain and a very steep climb to the top, but the view is awesome.
