“Exceeded High Expectations”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

We had very, very high expectations for this property -- and they were exceeded! The joy, pride and love of place the owners have for this property are evident in the care they give to each cottage and each guest. The Wing Cottage was larger than I expected -- very comfortable size for a small cottage. All the little touches -- the coffee, the fire pit & bench, the chairs on the porch, the bbq grill, the ice chest -- anticipating their guests every need. Paul & Lynda were so helpful in arranging trips and equipment for us and the information and recommendations they provide are so important in planning a trip to a new place, especially remote areas of Alaska. We highly recommend this property!

We rented the Wing Cabin from Lynda and Paul August 19-23, 2013, and it was the best place we stayed in all of Alaska!!! We reserved our cabin 6 months in advance...which I highly recommend, as the 3 cabins on the waterfront are the most charming, and have the best views of Resurrection Bay. The owners paid special attention to every little detail...from the welcoming twinkle lights on the front porch, to full amenities within. The cabin was SO cozy, with a super comfortable bed, and lots of places to watch the wildlife outside the big picture windows. We loved watching the tides come in and out, and once saw two bald eagles on the sandbar right in front of us!!! The 5 minute drive to town is really convenient, and Lynda and Paul put together a wonderful information book with restaurant reviews and anything else you'd want to know about Seward. They're both very busy maintaining their property, so we only met them on our last day, but checking in was no problem with the numbers they left on their welcome note, and I couldn't help but give them both a huge hug when we left. They're very special and caring people who developed this little slice of heaven, and I'd highly recommend staying there!!!!

Thank you SO MUCH for your beautiful words. It's nice to be appreciated and understood! Thank you for mentioning the need to book the cabins far in advance. They are the only 3 modern cabins on the shores of Resurrection Bay, and can often be booked as far as a year in advance, or more. We hope you get to return for another visit some day; we enjoyed meeting you!

We stayed here for three nights in mid August in the View Nest Room. The overall place is pretty good, but I suspect most of the rave reviews are for the beachfront cottages. Our cottage was set far back from the beach (which we knew when booking). The problem is that the 'view' from the windows is directly onto the driveway and a parking area - so we had the shades down at all times. for our privacy. Rooms are well equiped, but all the laminated instructions get annoying after a while. The owners are rabid anti-smokers, so don't stay here if you are a smoker (they as you to walk 1/2 mile down the road....). Finally, Lowell Point is a 10-15 minutes drive from Seward town, so don't stay here if you don't have a car. The drive from Seward town is stunning, but a little scary at night.

Room Tip: Choose a beachfront cottage, worth the extra I suspect.

Thank you for pointing out our "Share the Air Inside and Outside" NON-Smoking Property policy! Yes, it is true, if you are a smoker you won't be happy with our property. The last thing we want is for any of our guests to be subjected to 2nd hand smoke.

We have just 3 waterfront cabins, and they are often booked a year or more in advance, so when someone plans their trip to Alaska late in the booking season, our water-view rooms in our Heron Roost building, are often the only thing we have available, and in order of preference, the 2nd floor rooms do get reserved first in most cases. So, last minute or late bookings are often left with a choice of one of the ground level water-view rooms. There are rave reviews on here for this exact unit, the View Nest, including rave reviews of the view from this room.

We try to provide our guests with all the information they may need or want to make them as comfortable and informed as possible. Yes, we have made some laminated signs, most of which are very small and unobtrusive (and speak to things such as what materials are recycled here, that the water is good to drink, and how the heater works). Most guests tell us they appreciate this level of detail and information, and that no matter what question they had, they found what they needed. Occasionally, as in this case, people find them annoying.

As the saying goes, "you can't please everyone all the time" ~ although WE DO TRY! We really do. :)

Lynda sent us many informative emails but we didn't get to meet her unfortunately. Two couples travelling together, so we booked the Heron Loft and Heron View rooms, on arrival we found a phone that we had to use to check in, following the instructions we got wrong numbers several times over but luckily our friends worked ok.

Everything was clean and comfortable, however there was an awful damp odour in the bathroom, there is no ventilation or natural light, it was very unpleasant being in there. If we left our towels in there to dry they too smelt however they were changed every two days. The small kitchenette had everything we needed but we did find the use of only one sink to do dishes and for bathroom use to be very unhygienic, we have never come across this and hope to never again.

We were hoping to utilise the grill but found it to be in a rather inviting area, under the stairs and right outside the front doors of the two lower units. Unfortunately for us the weather wasn't the best and the tables, chairs and grill were always wet rendering it next to useless for us.

The views were great, we enjoyed watching the boats passing. Lynda also helped out by booking a Saltwater small boat trip which was brilliant, we saw Orca whales which was a real bonus.

We again had trouble with the phone when leaving, our friends rang but it rang out so we were not able to say goodbye. This isn't bad accommodation but we found it average and pricey compared to other places we stayed in Alaska.

We're so sorry you found some things disappointing! We work especially hard to create a very special place for our guests to relax and have an enjoyable stay; we'e sorry we fell sort for you! It is our normal check-in policy to have you call to check in, since people arrive at all hours, we've found this to be the easiest for our guests. If you are not traveling with a cell, or as was this case, are an International guest, we leave prepaid cell phones to check in with. In this case, we left two, one in each room and our phone numbers are pre-programmed, so we're not sure what the problem was with the phone....there is also a white board on the Guest Services building where guests can leave us a message, or they can stop by and see us. One of us if not both, or a housekeeper, is normally on the property throughout the day, and we're available by phone 24/7.....we are unobtrusive hosts in that we love our guests and love to meet them, but leave it up to each guest ~ all one need say is that they want to meet us and we'll go out of our way to make ourselves available in person. For some guests it is important to meet us, for others, not. It's hard for us to know unless the guest lets us know.

As for the dampness in the bathroom, we are located in the largest area of temperate zone rain forest on the planet, so it's not unusual for there to be high humidity especially if it's been raining for some time. The bathrooms all do have good exhaust fans however so leaving that running during the day would certainly have helped to dry things out in the bathroom. Guests may always ask for fresh towels.

The view rooms (and one cabin) were designed based on numerous, numerous hotels rooms we researched, that offer kitchenettes. It is quite common to find only 1 sink in a hotel room that also has microwave, coffee pot, refrigerator, etc. Although in our case there is a BBQ also so more extensive cooking is possible than a hotel room, since we supply everything needed to wash dishes, we simply couldn't justify the construction expense of 2 sinks. We do reference this feature both on the web and in our confirmation letters, so it should not have been any surprise. Often when several couples are traveling together, one couple will make all the arrangements. Perhaps what doesn't bother one couple will bother another, so we do suggest that everyone traveling review the arrangements so everyone can be happy.

Thank you for this feedback; we are working on improving the outside area where the BBQ is located so it is better protected from blowing rain. We're always working to improve and enhance our property. As for rates, the longer a guest stays the better the rate; since we encourage everyone a minimum 3 night stay in Seward, and our three night rates are very competitive if not low when you compare amenities and tax rate. Few locations will offer you the same level of comfort, care and craftsmanship that we offer. Thanks again! We are grateful and thankful for all our customers.

We rented the Wing cabin in July for a week. Like all the other reviews it was spectacular. Right on the bay with one of the best views one could imagine and we travel extensively. Cabins are very comfortable and very well equipped. So nice it was hard to do anything but sit, drink coffee in AM and wine in the evening and enjoy the views. Great hosts as well, will arrange tours with a discount. Weather was also great, sunny and not a drop of rain which also helps. More like California than typical Alaska. Reserve well in advance during summer as these stay booked and to make sure you get a cabin on the waterfront.

Thank you so much for this review; we're so glad you enjoyed your stay! Staying week gives guests a chance to really rest and enjoy the area, and of course increases the chance of having some good weather ~ you were especially lucky to have nice weather the entire time! In addition to providing our lodging, we are also your local experts, and are very interested in helping our guests get the most out of their visit to Alaska and especially the Seward area. In addition to securing the best rates and discounts for our customers, we can also help save money on things like car rentals in Anchorage. (We do recommend having a car for visits to the Kenai Peninsula.) Thank you again for this post! We are grateful and thankful for all our guests!

We loved driving out to Lowell Point! We rented Heron's loft and loved it. Our 9 yr old had her own room. It had great bay views, even with the fog. We utilized the grill every night. Lynda & Paul texted me after we arrived to make sure everything was suitable. Very hospitable hosts. I enjoyed the email with all the "highlights" of Resurrection Bay - our Fjord tour with Saltwater Lodge was amazing, her advice on hiking to Tonsinga Creek was a highlight of our walking adventure. Saw tons of salmon and with low tide we could walk out to the bay.
We also used Seward Helicopter and landed on Goddard Glacier and did the husky ride, which is a must do.
A beautiful paradise in Lowell Point. We loved Alaska.

We have done a lot of traveling, and without a doubt this is one of the neatest places we have EVER stayed at! It took our breath away from the moment we walked in, and that feeling never waned. The set up of the cabin (we stayed in Cloud 9) was so nice, clean, and beautifully decorated. We loved being able to wake up and look out the big windows to the water! I cannot WAIT to go back!
