“Great place to stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 August 2014

My 7-year-old son and I stayed 3 nights in Cloud 9. Lovely cabin. It's small and a bit tight however it was perfect for 2 people. In all fairness I was warned when I booked but I think she thought I had an older son. There's only one bed which I didn't mind sharing with my son. The view is spectacular! They have thought of everything you could possibly need and stocked the cabin with it, even cleaning supplies. This isn't a hotel so don't expect daily maid service, which I prefer because it gives you more privacy. We made friends with the people in the cabin next to us and shared a fire one evening while my son played on the rocks. The porches are nice to sit, chat and drink some wine or just relax alone and admire the view. It's only a 5-10min (2 miles?) drive into Seward and all its shops, restaurants and attractions. Lynda is helpful is recommending and booking several different tours. Once you book a cabin, her emails of information are wonderful resources and she booked 2 of my 4 activities. She recommended a smaller boat company for a wildlife/glacier tour that I hadn't found and they were wonderful! There are other accommodations available in Seward but they looked dumpy compared to Angels Rest. I recommend getting an SUV if you stay here. The road is unpaved and bumpy. A car can do it, but and SUV would provide more confidence. There's an RV campsite next door so if you stay on the beach like we did, you'll see families walking up and down the beach. It's far enuf to not be a privacy issue and it only happens during low tide. The cabin has a small dorm refrigerator which was a pleasant surprise so we were able to keep dinner left overs for snacks/breakfast the next day. Last thing I recommend is an eye mask if you're staying during the summer. All the windows have blinds but aren't blackout curtains so the late sunset and early sunrise may bother your rest.

Thank you so much! We're so happy you enjoyed your stay! We love sharing our local insights with our customers and helping them pick activities that appeal to them. We can also help with reservations and in come cases can get our customers discounts. Since some vendors prefer to work with their customers directly, we assist with reservations on some activities, but for those vendors that prefer direct contact, we connect you directly so you have the smoothest booking experience. Thank you again for choosing to stay with us! We greatly appreciate all our customers!

Stayed two nights at Angels Rest (Heron Loft room) just south of Seward. The drive from Seward is mostly along a narrow road next to the ocean- very pretty. It looks a little sketchy when you drive through an RV park, but the actual property is great. Very quiet room, great view of the ocean, really cute little suite-like accommodation. Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: The cabins are closer to the water and would likely be nicer, but they require a longer stay than we...

Thank you so much for this; we're so happy you enjoyed your stay! You are correct, during the summer months our waterfront cabins have a 3 night minimum unless a smaller opening exists. Our water-view rooms are ideal for shorter stays with just a 2 night minimum. On the drive along Lowell Point Road you can often see marine wildlife like sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals and even an occasional whale! Thanks again for choosing Angels Rest as your lodging during your visit to Seward! We greatly appreciate you as guests and hope you'll come for another visit some day.

We stayed at Angels Rest, the Wing cabin for 4 nights. It was awesome! A cozy little cabin right on the high tide line of the bay. Even though it rained for 3 of the 4 days we watched harbor seals and eagles right from our front window. The owners sent us much information and recommendations on tours, etc. before we arrived and even booked our whale watching tour for us. Loved the place and would certainly return.

Room Tip: Loved the Wing cabin

We stayed in the Gatehouse cabin over the 4th of July and could not have loved it more. The cabin is closest to the water and provides spectacular views of the Bay and the Mountains. We had everything we could have needed or expected from owners. The cabin was perfect. We also took their recommendation for the Small Group Whale Watching, Wildlife, and Glacier Tour company, it was the highlight of our whole vacation. Y'all get 5 stars from us, we loved it.

Thank you so much for these lovely words! We're so glad you enjoyed your stay with us over the 4th of July; the busiest time of the year in Seward! Also happy that the boat tour was a big hit; it's certainly our favorite thing to do! Thank again; we greatly appreciate your patronage!

We stayed in the Heron's Roost room for two nights in mid-June. When we made reservations, we'd asked for a cabin, but were told that they won't rent those for a two night stay due to the housekeeping that needs to happen with short turnovers. I shouldn't have settled.

The Heron's Roost room was very tight and we had a hard time walking around the suitcases and finding room for our toiletries. The view was nice, but we didn't visit the waterfront on the property because we weren't around during the "accepted" times for non-waterfront cabin guests to walk over there. There is the public area down the road, but we would have needed to walk through at busy campground area to get there so we drove down. It was about 1/2 a mile from the lodging.

The waterfront close to Angels rest is ripe with private property and no trespassing signs. I have the feeling something will be said about the privacy of the guests in the cabins, so it's important to note proper planning would leave a common area on the waterfront so any guest at Angel's Rest could sit by the water, even in the evening or earlier morning. It's also important to note that there may be a common seating area on the shore, but I wouldn't know since I wasn't at the property during the hours when I could have walked over there.

One of the evenings we stayed only one of the cabins seemed to be occupied and the next evening two were occupied. I was tempted to ask the owner about availability of the cabins again, but I didn't due to the comments about housekeeping made when we booked. Also, I knew we would fill up our days running around the Seward area and be moving on to a relaxing and private cabin on the water after our Seward stay.

It's important to note that just behind the 4-plex there was a campground in close proximity and while it was noisy outside the noise didn't carry into our unit. The campground is camouflaged by vegetation.

The positives were the list of good places to eat and ideas on things to do. We enjoyed 3 of the recommended restaurants. I think staying in one of the waterfront cabins would be great, but I didn't enjoy my time in the 4-plex. We stayed in 7 locations during our 3 week trip and this is the only place where I felt like I could have made a better choice.

I regret not looking for a waterfront location or a downtown stay with that would allow for a 2 night booking when I was presented with the Heron View room option.

The owners are very responsive and present a lot of good information on Seward. I just wasn't comfortable with the room.

Room Tip: Try to be on the waterfront.

The Heron View room is certainly our most compact and budget-friendly water-view unit. Our property offers a variety of lodging, in terms of space and price, from private waterfront cabins to water-view units in our Heron Roost 4-plex. Many guests have been extremely happy in Heron View, so we're very sorry that wasn't the case for you. Had you expressed your concern at check-in, we might have been able to move you to a larger unit, or even a cabin. In general, we will do everything in our powers to make a guest happy; and if we can't we'll gladly give you your money back and help you find another place to stay. For the Summer Season our waterfront cabins do have a 3 night minimum, unless a smaller opening exists. Since Seward is so filled with beauty and things to do, most guests want to stay 3 nights, (or longer); it's also more environmentally friendly which we strongly encourage all our guests to consider. (We are a Green Leader at the Silver Level, thank you TripAdvisor!). A 3 week trip, even a 2 week trip, easily allows a 3 night stay in Seward.... We're glad you enjoyed our recommendations for places to eat and things to do. From a guest's initial contact to their visit in Seward, we do strive to be our customer's source for Local & Alaskan Insight! We hope you'll visit again and get a cabin (you'll enjoy the privacy of not having as many as 8 people walking by any time of day or night :D)

We spent three nights in the Wing cabin - the view was incredible - the sea otters swam by and an eagle landed on the beach and picked up what looked like a clam one morning. The hummingbirds kept us amused as well. The cabin is clean, the bed is very comfortable and the owner provided everything that we needed for a nice stay. It's quiet and peaceful and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a cozy cabin with lots of decorations and usable items like binoculars and tide calendars and magazines showcasing things to do in the area. The owner left us welcome notes and clearly wants to make the cabins as cozy and comfortable as possible. It's a quick ride into Seward though the road can be challenging with the ruts but it looked like they were working on improving it. We highly recommend it.

Thank you so much for these lovely words! The hummingbirds this time of year can be amazing since the babies are just hatching out. We're glad you enjoyed watching them! Cozy and comfortable is a motto of ours, we're glad we met the mark! As you noticed, they were working on the road, which they do every time it has rained. Guests can find a wide range of conditions, depending on what recent weather has been. The trade off is 3 miles of spectacular wildlife viewing. Thank you again for your stay and this review, we greatly appreciate you!

We enjoyed our stay at the lovely Wing Cabin and wished we had more than three nights! Resurrection bay is peaceful, otters glide in and out of view, and Seward is a short drive away.

The Wing Cabin is, as advertised, charming and cozy. The kitchen is stocked with everything two people need in terms of light cooking, microwave, toaster and refrigerator. The bathroom is tiny but functional. There is no storage space for clothing or luggage, which was a bit difficult but completely known upfront so plan accordingly. The bed was comfortable. The view from the gliders inside the cabin and the chairs on the covered front deck was lovely. We appreciated the binoculars provided.

Renters at the beginning of the summer season should be prepared for a pot-hole ridden dirt road leading around to Lowell Point. No repair work or gravel had been laid down when we made our first journey from Seward around to Lowell Point on the dirt road, which was a bit of a surprise but we just drove accordingly. It had been repaired on our way out at the end of our stay and was much improved.

There is not much happening in Lowell Point in terms of food choices so best to bring in your own groceries and/or travel the 15 minutes to Seward if you want a restaurant..

Angels Rest cabins, Wing in particular, is a good choice if you want a restive, quiet stay outside of Seward. It was a great way to start our three week adventure in Alaska.

Room Tip: Cabins on shoreline were each lovely, Wing is tiny so be prepared to be efficient with space otherwi...

Thank you so much for your kind words! We are so happy you enjoyed your stay! In all fairness to the City of Seward and their maintenance of Lowell Point Road, the road is actively maintained and graded. However, when there are days and days of rain it makes in nearly impossible to keep that road in good shape. As soon as the rain stops, the road crews are usually quite prompt in their response. As we like to say, the slower you have to go, the better your chance of seeing a whale, sea otter, sea lion or harbor seal! ;) Thanks again, we greatly appreciate you!
