This bed and breakfast is tucked away in the woods close to Seward. It is designed like a lodge - three bedrooms upstairs with a small shared balcony, and a small shared open area containing a large refrigerator, microwave, and baskets of tea and coffee to enjoy during your stay. The actual kitchen area is only open for breakfast - we really enjoyed visiting with Richard as he cooked sourdough pancakes and bacon - completing our meal with fresh fruit and coffee. Richard shared personal and Alaskan history with us during our meal.
The workmanship is exquisite - Richard and Sue built the lodge themselves. Rustic, wooden craftsmanship, including the furniture. The bed and bath were very comfortable and the room had plenty of space for luggage and lounging, as well as a sofa and a TV (with cable).
We truly enjoyed watching the birds in the trees outside our large windows. All in all, a great value for a bed and breakfast.

The warm hospitality of our hosts and the great layout of rooms, common area with tea and coffee making equipment and microwave, and porch on which to look for northern lights, made Sourdough Sunrise and happy place in which to stay. We were very comfortable and were so happy we picked this B & B for our Seward visit.

Room Tip: Homemade breakfast was lovely

We spent one night at Sourdough Sunrise and it was a very pleasant experience. The quality and condition of the B&B is impeccable, with amazing details in the wood throughout the house. Our room (room 1) was decently sized with our private adjoining bathroom. Beds were comfortable and the showers hot. While downtown Seward is definitely a few miles drive, it was nice to be a little set back from everything. And there were still dinner options in walking distance (Salmon Bake around the corner is our suggestion!). One of the best parts of staying at Sourdough were the delicious sourdough pancakes that were made served with fresh fruit for breakfast. We are still craving these! The hosts were also very helpful with recommendations of activities. Highly recommended!

We loved the sourdough pancakes, the sunny decks and the location. Richard and Anne keep an impeccably clean, comfortable and cozy B & B. The woodwork is amazing and unique. Our only complaints are there is no WiFi and no common gathering area. We will definitely be back.

We spent 5 nights here in mid-May and LOVED it. We explored all around the Kenai Peninsula while having this as our base. Richard and Sue were great hosts and recommended places for us to eat and to visit. Breakfast was a healthy helping of outstanding sourdough pancakes and bacon. Sue actually cooks bacon completely unlike most restaurants. We were offered other items for breakfast but took advantage of the pancakes as long as we were there. The little refrigerator was very handy as we could just keep snacks and wine in there for dinner some evenings. We will definitely stay here again next time we are in Seward.
