We stayed here 2 nights while traveling on the Kenai penninsula. We had a very nice experience here. The bar in the hotel is quaint and the breakfast is very good. All the food is made to order. The hotel may be dated but it's very clean. We were in the historic part of the hotel and the room was very spacious. We were on the first floor and did not have a view but that didn't matter as we were not in our room much anyway. If you like to walk this hotel is close to the walking trail by the water and close to the aquarium. I think this hotel did a great job.

My brother and I booked a historic wing room with twin beds at the last minute. It was clean and the shared bathrooms were clean and available when needed. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the historical artifacts and mounted animals really added to the whole ambiance.

Room Tip: If you don't want to share a bathroom, make sure before booking.

We decided to stay here based on reviews here. Disappointed would be an understatement. First, there is no mention that the rooms do not have private baths. There are 16 rooms sharing 2 bathrooms on my floor (one bathroom doesn't have a sink to wash your hands). We requested a queen bed and got twin beds. The room is crazy hot, walls are thin, there is an odd odor in the room and hallway, connecting to the internet was a nightmare.
Staff was incredibly nice and helpful but there was only so much they could do.

Room Tip: Ask for something in the new section not the historic section

Dear Guest, From your review it appears there was an mistake made at some point in your reservation. As most hotel do we send out a confirmation that explains what room style was reserved at the time of booking, the goal is verified everything before arrival. I am sorry you had not reviewed your confirmation before arriving and therefore had a misunderstanding upon your arrival. The room held per the confirmation was a Economy room with 2 single beds not a Queen room. We have 8 Economy rooms on the 2nd floor that do not have bathrooms, but they do have a sink basin in each room. There are 16 rooms on the 2nd floor, but only 8 Economy rooms which use the 2 bathrooms . The other 8 are Standard room with their own private bathrooms, they do not use the 2 shared bathrooms. To help there are a total for 4 bathrooms available for the 8 rooms that do not have their own bathrooms. 2 are on the 2nd floor and there are 2 more on 1st floor. I do apologize that the room you reserved was not as you had wanted. I am not sure if you booked through a 3rd party or with us, but all confirmation give the details of the room style that was booked. To help in the future it is always best to review your confirmation and call immediately if there is a mistake so it can be corrected before arriving. I am sorry this was missed . We certainly do not want anyone to arrive and not get the room style they are expecting and if we are sold out there are no other option to help with this type of situation. Sincerely our best, Mary

This was a very nice hotel to stay at after a week long Alaskan cruise. The hotel staff was awesome. One of the managers even went out of his way to pick my wife and I up from the cruise pier after trying to get a taxi for an hour. The hotel is a little dated in some areas, but you can expect that in a hotel that has the history of this one. Overall, great stay, nice room, great experience.

This hotel is awesome. The lobby is decorated with gorgeous taxidermy animals and antiques, it is like a museum. The staff is SUPER nice and helpful. The rooms are clean. Beds are comfy. In room sink which aaas unexpected. Shared bathrooms are modern , CLEAN and large. Lots of tv channels. 1/2 block from downtown. Love this place!!
I have stayed in hostels all over Europe and this place puts them all to shame.

The hotel was clean and very comfortable with a nice restaurant in the main lobby. They also had a washer and dryer on hand, which was very helpful. My husband, wanted to fish for sock eye while in the area, and the hotel referred us to a man named Wes Oetinger. He works for the hotel and also provides fishing trips to the tourist. This guy, was AMAZING!!!!!! Truthfully, he was the complete highlight to our trip to Seward. This guy, hunts the fish unlike other guides who will just take you to an area and if you catch anything then great, if not too bad. He goes out of his way to make the calls to his local friends, and finds were the fish are running to make sure you have the best experience possible. He will pick you up at the hotel, provide all the gear and teach you how to catch the fish. He had to tell me a hundred times over before, I got the hang of it.. but the whole time was so patient with me. We are already planning a return trip with this guy next July, he was that amazing! Cant say enough about how great the hotel was or Wes. Booking at this place and with Wes made for the best of memories!!!

Room Tip: We had a room with our own bathroom.

The hotel is located near the water and the SeaLife Center and other Seward downtown locations....all very handy. Their shuttle was useful to the extent that they would travel where you wanted to go. Ms Genes Restaurant was convenient and good quality but expensive. The room we were in the new section of the Hotel was cramped with too much furniture and few places to put luggage. We had very good weather....so with no AC, the room got very warm....had to keep a window and door open and get door opened at end of hall to create some air flow. Exterior of the Hotel looks pretty shabby...needs paint bad.

Room Tip: request new section....request a room with a good window for ventilation

Dear Guest, Thank you for your input. We do live in a postcard and appreciate the location. I agree the top exterior wood trim needs some care and when weather permits it will be addressed before next season. To help understand our room size we are on the larger size of rooms. But it may seem smaller because we have Queen beds instead of double beds as many hotel do. Also, as a convenience we added the microwave, refrigerator, coffee makers , lamps with outlets and a fan to each room which does add more furnishing. It is always a balance when you try to add extra amenities and we are now adding IHomes for all the new electronics. We really do appreciate your visit and input so we can improve. My Best Always, Mary
