“The perfect place to stay in San Ramon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 December 2013

Casa Amanecer was our first stop on our trip to Costa Rica as we checked out the San Ramon area. Before we even arrived we knew we had found the right place to stay. We arrived well after dark and called for directions from just past town. Helen answer and told us to wait where we were. In 5 min she was there and escorted us right to Casa Amanecer. Things only got better from there. Helen is fantastic and made a stay a real pleasure. She got us all situated once we arrived and each morning she had a wonderful breakfast for us. LOL.. we were to full to have lunch after having Helen's breakfast, it was that good. We met friends Paul & Gloria Yeatman of retire for less in costa rica for a day of investigating the area and city of San Ramon. Each night Helen had given us a great recommendation for dinner. Helen is a real gem and a wonderful person. We really thank Paul & Gloria for telling us about Casa Amanecer. It has a wonderful view and is a great location for exploring the area.

Hello! I am responding to you because I know Helen is quite busy right now and might not be able to find the time. Luisa and I are thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed your stay at the B&B. We really appreciate your kind words, especially about our wonderful friend and associate Helen. She truly is someone special and we are so happy to have her managing Casa A while we are in Peru for an extended time. There have many a time that she has made us gallo pinto, so we know what a good cook she is!

Thank you again for taking the time to write this review and for your very kind remarks! We hope to have you back again in the future.

My family (8 of us) just completed a 9 day stay at Casa Amanecer. It was wonderful.

Our host/hostess: Chris started our experience with wonderful support and communication via email to get our reservations set. Then Helen greeted us with a smile from the moment we met her then every moment we saw her during our visit! Javier and Leticia joined Helen to make us wonderful breakfasts each morning. I can go on and on!

Our location: If you are looking for a quiet location with a beautiful and peaceful view to greet you each day that is also close to a small city (San Ramon) - Casa Amanecer offers it all.

Our breakfast: Only two of our group of 8 are vegetarians and what is amazing is that we ALL loved breakfast each day, even the meat eaters. So don't shy away if you have non-vegetarians in your family.

Our travel to the Casa: We arrived at night and the Casa was difficult to find in the dark. We rented a vehicle and drove from San Jose airport. However, Helen was wonderful because she drove her vehicle to meet us at a common point in town so that we could follow her to the Casa. Once we had daylight, going back and forth to town was easy.

Thanks again to Helen, Chris, Javier and Leticia!

Each morning I took a panoramic view from the yard. Check out the picture attached. It was beautiful.

My 13 year old granddaughter and I just returned from a 10-day stay at Casa Amanecer! We absolutely love and recommend this bed & breakfast. It provided a safe and welcoming place to return each night after day trips to experience the incredible diversity of this unusual and beautiful country. Emma, age 13, spent the evenings on the veranda catching up with friends on social media via wireless connection, provided without charge to guests. There are neither televisions nor phones in rooms so if that's your pleasure be forewarned. This is a place of peace and serenity.

Casa Amanecer is nestled at the top of a hill in the Central highlands of San Ramon, Costa Rica. Rooms are colorfully appointed with comfortable beds, spacious windows with magnificent views, hot showers in clean bathrooms with built in receptacles in the shower stall with body wash and organic shampoo, reading lamps, dresser, closet for hanging clothes and ceiling fans. The outside veranda is charming, table & chairs with fascinating and aways changing decorative tablecloths welcome you to home made empanadas, gallo pinto, fruit and other local & fresh specialties for breakfast.

Early in the morning you can see and feel the cool mist over the mountains in the distance; and, then as the sun rises a mystical cloud cover forms and they are obscured. Breakfast is served with the always delicious and aromatic dark organic Costa Rican coffee.

The proprietors go all out to ensure your stay is pleasant. Casa Amanecer is near the center of town with easy access to bus and taxi. We ordered a pizza to be delivered one evening when we just needed to kick back and do nothing. Helen, the woman in charge, much to my surprise, set a beautiful table for us that night. Another evening our Costa Rican hosts were welcomed to join us for an evening of cards on the veranda. There were too many courtesies to mention! Suffice to say, you can't go wrong with Casa Amanecer Bed & Breakfast in San Ramon!

We had a very special and memorable stay at Casa Amanecer. The architecture and layout of the b&b is very modern and attractive. The rooms are decorated beautifully, I especially love the Peruvian decor and bright, cheery colors. Our two small children felt right at home observing the vibrant butterflies, hummingbirds, and tropical fruits and vegetables surrounding the property. The comfortable, leather rocking chairs on the veranda were our favorite. They overlook a lush valley of farmland. Helen leaves no leaf unturned, she knows what you need before you even ask! She is an extraordinary chef, who prepares delicious fruit smoothies, unlimited organic coffee (from their own coffee plantations!), and a hearty breakfast of gallo pinto, farm fresh eggs and fresh fruit - papaya, granadilla, pineapple, just to name a few. The value that you will receive far exceeds the price that you will pay.

Besides being warm and friendly, they have built a dream of a bed and breakfast. Chris, Luisa and Helen are very good friends of ours, dating back to our Habitat for Humanity volunteering days in San Ramon. I am so proud of them for this very impressive accomplishment! Pura Vida mis amigos.

We had a great experience at Casa Amanacer-- it was our first stop in Costa Rica upon flying into San Jose. The caretaker was absolutely lovely and full of tips and cultural information. The rooms were small, but clean and perfectly appointed. The bathrooms were modern with hot showers. We enjoyed our fresh breakfast before heading on our way the next morning. I highly recommend this B & B.

Casa Amanecer exceeded my expectations! From the moment I arrived the host Helen made me feel apart of her home. Welcomed with fresh passionfruit juice I found a clean and ideal private room overlooking the San Ramon area. Located on the outskirts of town off the main road the noise is minimal (only a few dogs barking on occasion which didn't bother me in the least and some trucks during the day), and you are close to town for anything you might need ...restuarants, post office, shops, and the local Farmer's Market which I HIGHLY recommend!

The location, food and hosts (Helen, her nephew Javier and assistant Irene) are what made this such a perfect spot for me. The location is close to the airport (within an hour), easy to get to, and within range of lots of tourist destinations if that is what you are looking to do. Day trips to Volcan Arenal, Lake Arenal, Volcan Poas, Zarcero, Sarchi, etc are all doable. However, you don't have to stray even that far for plenty to do. Helen can help you arrange cloud forest walks, bird watching, and horseback rides right within the San Ramon area without all the clusters of tourists. Imagine your own private tour w/ an amazing local guide, Nacho, complete with local food at a cozy 'soda'! For me it was my ideal vacation. I had a quiet, clean room to relax in, beautiful mountains to overlook, amazing fresh, tasty, local vegetarian meals, and amazing hosts. I cannot say enough about the food! Helen spoiled me with fabulous meals and Irene even taught m how to make fresh tortillas. I didn't want to go home and I most certainly will go back! It was relaxing and I was able to enjoy the Costa Rican culture in this area much more than you would in other more touristy areas. (I was in San Jose for a week prior with volunteer work and went up to the Lake Arenal for a day trip so I saw plenty of other accommodations and areas) If you are looking for a more authetic experience for your trip then I HIGHLY recommend that you stay at Casa Amanecer. Many see this as just a stopping over point on their way to other locations. I think you are missing out on the peace and serenity that Casa Amanecer has to offer if you only stay one night. Almost every guest I met while there for the week wished they were staying more than one night!

I have traveled throughout the US, Europe, Africa, Guatemala, and Asia. I have stayed in all sorts of accommodations and B&B's. I have never had a host as fabulous as Helen. She is professional, personable, warm, and welcoming. LOVED HER!!! I was not looking for luxury accommodations w/ a spa or workout facilities. If you need that then look elsewhere. I wanted a small B&B, that was clean, quiet, relaxing, and had top notch food. I eat organic and GF, so I am a picky eater. Casa Amanecer is a gem!

Room Tip: If you are traveling solo request room #4 at the end of the building. It is quieter since other gue...

Hola Tracy! Muchisimas gracias por tus maravillosos comentarios. It's nice to know that we exceeded your expectations here at Casa Amanecer! Thanks for your very nice words related to your time with us. We really wanted to make you feel comfortable and at home. This is our specialty. We are also proud to hear you liked the food we prepared during the week. It is a way to share a little bit of our latino culture. Now you know how to make tortillas as an expert (ja, ja). Be sure, all we did, we did with love. We really enjoyed the time with you too. You are an excellent person!

Remenber, you are welcome to Costa Rica again, and of course very welcome at CASA AMANECER!

San Ramon is a very quiet town, and Casa Amanacer fits it nicely. This is not a place to come to for wild hooting shenanigans, but it is a place to go to if you want a peaceful, lovely home base to explore the region. While we were here, we-- with the assistance of Helen, who runs the Casa-- ziplined, went for a walk in the cloud forest and saw a quetzal, and went to a local farm-and-English-school.

We ate wonderful, healthy breakfasts of fresh fruit and local eggs cooked at whatever time we requested by Helen, every morning. We had a couple of dinners with her as well, and she delivered there as well. The pleasant outside garden has herbs growing in it, so a lot of our dinner was plucked straight from the garden. A brace of rocking chairs makes this outside even nicer.

The rooms are small but very clean, very airy for their size, and extremely well-built. It's not super-private, but we never felt uncomfortable. For the price, it's extremely, surprisingly nice. The floors are made of treated concrete, but it actually felt wonderful on my feet, better than concrete ever has.

The internet, as it is in, apparently, a lot of Costa Rica, would go down from time to time. Other than that, there was literally nothing to complain about.

The B&B is set up as a house with four rooms extended out in a wing. Each room has its own bathroom/shower, and while the rooms are small they're perfectly comfortable and get a lot of light. The garden is alive with hummingbirds, and Helen and her friends and family are often in the kitchen/living room for quick and easy socialization. The other guests we met while we were here were pleasant, seasoned travelers.
