The hotel stands alone up the hill, a few hundred metres from the centre of this small and charming town. We were welcomed by a pleasant, friendly receptionist who did her best to cope with our limited French. The ground floor area was clean and attractive. Our room was large and well furnished. The bathroom was adequate but with a shower/bath with no screen. Reasonable toiletries.

The fixed dinner, as part of our demi-pension package, was excellent, particularly the dessert. Breakfast was good. Altogether a very pleasant stay.

This stay was at the end of Day 12 of our 25 day trek through Les Vosges.
Previous night: Hotel-Residence La Rubanerie in Schirmeck.
Tomorrow: Hotel Le Manoir in Barr

Splendid hotel. Reasonably priced. Very friendly food. Spacious and modern rooms. Delicious cooking. Really nothing to complain about during our one night stay in June 2012.

The Hotel Marchal has a beautiful setting up in the mountains to the southwest of Strasbourg. The rooms are fairly standard (which is to say, smallish - though the bathroom in our room at least was quite large with very modern fixtures) and our family of two adults and two kids was a bit crammed. But everything was clean and we weren't there to hang out in the room anyway. So far, three or four stars (given our . What raised the Marchal up for us, at least, was the very friendly staff and the very welcome greeting we received after a tiring drive across Franche-Comte and into Alsace. Dinner was available in the hotel even then and very good, to boot, with a useful tutorial on local wine varietals. In French adapted (without condescension) to reflect our limited command of same. So, while not a fancy stay, those looking for a very pleasant country lodging could do far worse than the Marchal.

By the way, we spent one day in Strasbourg - rather than park in the city, we drove to Obernai and took the train in (from 25-50 minutes depending on which train).
