Our group had a wonderful stay at the Skagway Inn. We came in two days before we hiked the Chilkoot Trail. Spent those nights at the Inn. They were very informative on the trail and all the local shops in town. They even had bear spray and canisters for our stoves...Free of charge... since you can not bring them on the plane we would have had to buy them. Their staff, which is pretty much all family, was courteous and friendly along with the atmosphere. We then stayed one more night after our hike. Karl even drove us at 3:30 am to the airport the day we had to leave.
I would highly recommend staying here to anyone that is trying to find the right spot.

The people running this B&B couldn't be friendlier or more accommodating. However, they need to get their maintenance man to address some of the detail work - wall paper was falling off the walls and the door locks rattle when windows open. The walls are very thin - our neighbor snored like a saw mill all night and it sounded like he was in the room. It has a nice restaurant attached, although we didn't eat there. They provide transportation which is a great option.

Room Tip: Not sure how to help you here.

Great bed and breakfast in Skagway, Alaska. Karl, Rosemary and all their family and staff were terrific hosts. We (a group of seven) stayed two nights before and one night after our hike of the Chilkoot Trail, and the entire staff was very accommodating. We were afforded much space in order to lay out, pack and repack our backpacks, and Karl not only provided shuttle service to the trailhead in Dyea, he also took as many pictures as we wanted. Complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport was a bonus especially when two of our group had a 4:30 a.m. return flight home. The hot breakfasts were an awesome treat and dining at Olivia's (their on-site restaurant) was fabulous -- the best crab leg dinner we've had in a long time. I highly recommend the Historic Skagway Inn.

We stayed here in 2013 and again in 2014. They provide a package where you stay the night before you hike the Chilkoot Trail and the night when you get back. They also provide transportation to the trail head, and Karl took pictures at whichever sign you want on both trips. He also provided a little bit of history on the way to the trail head. There is an odor in the Inn which is a bit unpleasant, but tolerable. The breakfast is okay. The room we had in 2013,Flo,was great. The bathroom was good sized and there was plenty of room to get ready for the hike. This year we tried a different room, Alice, and while it had plenty of room to get ready for our hike, the bathroom was very small, but sufficient. Karl allowed us to ship our backpacking equipment to him and he held the boxes there until our arrival. He also holds your luggage for you while you are hiking. On the day we left we took a dog sled tour and Karl again allowed us to store our luggage at the front desk until we were done with that tour and headed to the ferry. The convenience is great and the staff is very accommodating.

Fabulous atmosphere for our family visit. Loved the family aspect of the accommodations. We appreciated the attached restaurant for suppers and the awesome included morning breakfast started off all our busy mornings. Sincerely loved the shuttle that is available to travellers so they can be driven to their daily trek kings start points!

We did not stay at this B&B but we were served lunch in the dining room of this inn. The owner was our chef and the food we had was delicious and different from anything we have ever had. We started with either a salad with greens fresh from his garden or clam chowder (I had salad), and a choice of a salmon/pasta dish or chicken pot pie for the main course. I had the pot pie and it was loaded with meat and veggies. For dessert rhubarb pie was served and it was different from any other rhubarb pie I have ever eaten. It was sweet yet tart and had a texture like apple pie. All the food was prepared by the owner and it was delicious. Afterwards, we were invited to check out the rooms of the inn upstairs. The furnishings were antique. Some rooms you had to share a bathroom and a couple had a private bath. It was very interesting and we were made to feel very welcome.

Room Tip: Ask for the suite to be sure to get a private bath.

I totally enjoyed the atmosphere. Many of the historic items seen all over the inn were interesting as I like the past and all it implies. The breakfast room was interesting with a beautiful player piano, I have only heard about. The breakfast was great with the baked eggs bacon and home fries. The owner Karl was extremely kind to us, and we thank him. If I go back to Skagway I would happily stay at the Historic Inn.
