“Historic Property, Great Location - could use a "freshening-up," tho!”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

This hotel is located in the heart of Downtown Seattle. The accommodations were quiet and clean. The bar staff seemed a little less than enthusiastic about serving the crown that gathered at Happy Hour, but the Front Desk staff were awesome! GORGEOUS view from the top floor restaurant! The Fitness Center was well equipped, as well. It just felt a little: DATED. Might be time for some refurbishments!

Dear Katherine,
Thank you for being our guest and for your nice comments.
I am pleased to learn that our front desk staff excelled in service. On the other hand I will share your comments about the lounge staff with my team.
As we finish up the fitness center and lobby renovation, we are embarking on a major redo of our guest rooms this fall.

We look forward to welcome you back real soon

The lobby is expansive and has something for everyone - city view, fireplace lounge, cocktail area, and reading area. Our room was very comfortable with high quality linens and a flat screen TV. The only downside was that my husband and I were only provided one robe for our double occupancy reservation.
The restaurant, R View, was outstanding in service, wine selection, and delectable menu. As a vegetarian, it was easy to find multiple options and the view is fantastic.
We ate breakfast and lunch in the cafe - the morning buffet was excellent with gluten free options and lunch off the menu was delicious, fresh, and prompt.
All staff were eager to help.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the water and on higher floors have excellent views.

Dear Chandra,
Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve and your great review.
We love the views from our hotel as well. Where else can you see the library and Smith tower just by walking through the open space of a lobby.
R view on the other hand gives you a sweeping view of the city and the sound.
I am glad you found our food selection to you liking.

Again thank you and we look forward to have you back real soon.

I stayed here for a couple of nights with a friend and enjoyed it very much. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location was perfect for us to walk to Pioneer Square, Pike Place Market and various restaurants/shops.

My friend travels frequently and has one of the platinum cards so we did not pay for internet and we had access to the Club Lounge which was nice. For the record though, it appears they do not regularly attend to or re-stock the lounge on the weekends as by Friday night they were already running out of stuff and that was that.

The upstairs bar is a wonderful place to have a quiet drink and unwind at the end of the day and the restaurant had a very nice and well stocked breakfast buffet.

Overall this is a decent hotel and I would definitely stay here again.

I am pleased to learn that you did enjoy your stay and our breakfast buffet.
I am sharing your comments about the club lounge with my team to insure we do a better job replenishing the club lounge on weekends.

Again thank you and I hope you will be back soon.

My husband and I have stayed here on two separate occasions and we quite enjoy the hotel. Both stays were in a corner suite, so nice and spacious. The bed is comfortable and we were not bothered with any noise at night. The room we were in (19th floor) is probably due for a revamp in the near future, still it was clean and in good repair. One negative to the hotel is a hefty charge for use of wi-fi in the room. Wi-fi is free in public areas, but this is not always the most convenient. We didn't eat a meal at the restaurant on the 24th floor, but did go up for drinks. The view is spectacular, and the service was perfect. In fact, the service we received from all the staff was great. As mentioned by other reviewers, the hotel is a bit of an upward hike from Pike's Market, but we enjoy the opportunity to wear off a vifew calories when returning from a meal!

Dear LindyLou,

Thank you so much for the opportunity to have you stay with us and your great review.
Our wifi charges are similar to other major hotels in the city and other Marriott hotels.
We are indeed planning a major redesign of our guest rooms starting this fall.

Again thank you and we are looking forward to have you back next year.

I stayed here for a weekend to enjoy some tourist time after working in the city for the week. Check in was very friendly and, as a Marriott platinum, I was upgraded to a higher Club room floor with an expansive southerly view. I was also given vouchers for a full breakfast in the restaurant. "We treat our elites right," said the front desk clerk and I tend to agree.

In addition to the view, the room was comfortable with upscale decor. If you want Internet, it is two-tiered ($13 for "standard" and $16 for "enhanced", unless your status or plan includes it). I took the "enhanced" and found the speed to be good (4.5-5 mbps). There is free internet in the lobby if you find this too expensive. There was nightly turndown service with chocolates and bottles of water.

The location is very convenient to I-5, if you are arriving by car. Parking is rather expensive. "$33 plus tax" it says on the website for self parking, but tax brings it to over $40. It is at least 6 blocks to the nearest Link light rail station. If you are on foot, it will be a relatively easy (if sometimes long) downhill walk to most everything downtown. Coming back, however, will be an uphill climb that will be quite taxing if you are out of shape.

This is a great property (especially if you are a Marriott elite), but going up that hill might be a little off-putting for some.

Room Tip: The upper floors have some great views.

stayed for one nite before our Alaskan cruise. very nice hotel(used to be the Madison) in a good location., about a 15-20 minute walk to Pikes Market. Staff was vey friendly and accommodating when we asked for a late checkout for our sailing. Agree with others that the in room wifi charges are ridiculous but the lobby connection is free and there are three computers in the lobby with a free printer.

We were on the 22nd floor but the external sound insulation was so poor that we felt like we were next to the highway. While the air conditioning drowned out the external noise, it did so because it itself was very noisy. Otherwise, the hotel was okay.

Thank you so much for your business and your feedback.
I am glad you liked your overall stay, but I am concerned about your comments regarding the windows. We are in the process of replacing all eastside facing windows. This will eliminate the noise level substantially , and improve the overall experience.

I am sorry about the discomfort you may have experienced and look forward to have you back when the new windows are installed.
