“Great Location”
Reviewed 5 March 2014

The Edgewater is a classic waterfront hotel. The views from the restaurant, lounge, lobby and waterfront rooms are beautiful water views. The employees are friendly and helpful and truly have your best interests in mind. The lobby is warm and cozy and a great place to hang out, play games or just enjoy the view. The lounge was full one evening and the wait staff was kind enough to set our group up in the lobby. Because I am a water guy I always stay on the waters side. The rooms are large, cozy and in good condition. My room was very quiet. Loved the high flow walk in shower. I have no complaints about this hotel and would stay here again.

We stayed for a week while at a conference at the Convention Center. My opinion of the place is mixed. On the plus side one must mention the water view. The rooms on the water side are significantly more expensive but the view is unbeatable. We had both a waterfront room and a "city view" room. The rooms themselves were similar. This hotel is not what a traveler would consider a luxury hotel. Another reviewer described it as resembling a ski chalet. I agree. While some have said it is a bit dated, I kinda found that charming. It is a reasonably short walk to Pike Place Market. Walking anywhere else requires climbing steep hills. If you do not mind the hills and can walk a mile or a bit more, the Edgewater is conveniently located for the Space Needle and other downtown destinations. If not, the cab ride I took to the convention center late one night was all of $7.00. We were able to take the light rail from Sea-Tac Airport to a station about a mile from the hotel at a cost of $2.75 per person. It takes about an hour. We walked even with our bags. It was not that bad and gave us an opportunity to scope the neighborhood. Most of the walk was downhill so it is easier to go to the hotel than vice versa. There are lots of good restaurants within a mile of the hotel. The Edgewater is pet friendly.

Now the down side. 1) The hotel is near a very active railroad track. If you are on the city view side you will have trouble sleeping with the windows open. You can even hear them, but to a much lesser degree, on the water side. (If you book through a third party like Priceline you will get a city view room). 2) Temperature control for rooms was terrible. Our nights on the city view side were hot and this was in February (choice of hot or trains). They have no air conditioning or at least that is what we were told. I say that because the cleaning crew (more than one whom I asked) were not aware of there being no air conditioning but that is what I was told at the front desk. I was not the only one who complained by any means and I also heard one guest complain about her room being too cold. Bottom line is that they do not have a true temperature control system. You use the fireplace for heat and the window for cold. 3) On Site parking, as you have read elsewhere is outrageous but then so is parking costs in general in Seattle. 4) One thing I was not told when I made the reservation is that the shuttle bus that leaves hourly from the hotel to the convention center does not start until 8am. For most conventions that is a bit late for a first run, mine included. However, one driver did offer to take me early one day so there does appear to be some flexibility and all the drivers were very nice. The shuttle will pick up and drop off to destinations that are not out of the way between the hotel and the convention center. The bus leaves the hotel at the top of each hour from 8am to 9pm. 5) The walls are thin.

I would not stay at Edgewater Hotel again. Unless the view means that much to you I think there is better value and convenience with other downtown hotels. If the view is that important and you don't mind walking some then this is a hotel you should consider.

Troy - Instead of your generic response would you please address the temperature control issue in your response to my review. It is not like you have not heard this many times in the past. Your generic response always states that guests should come to you to resolve problems so they can be corrected. Since you have indeed been contacted numerous times over a reasonable period of time for true action on your part then either you are actively taking corrective measures (as opposed to "we are considering our options") or you do not care. If it is the former, I would like to hear specifics.

Room Tip: Fourth Floor water side for best view

Thanks for being our guest and for reaching out with such a thoughtful review of your experience, Thomas. We're glad to have hosted you and happy that you enjoyed the convenience of our location and the cozy ambiance of our site. That said, we're sorry to hear that your experience with temperature hampered the stay. While we do have air conditioning, the temperature in Seattle has not been above 50 degrees until last week. Once we see temperatures consistently in the 50’s we turn on the chillers. We apologize again if this was a hinderance to your visit, and we hope that you'll consider us again the next time you're in the area. All our best, and thanks again for your time.

It was a terrible stay. The room was terrible and the train woke me up every night. Edgewater should soundproof their rooms instead of providing earplugs which don't help at all. The hotel needs to be renovated as it is old and out of date. The gym was a joke and so tiny that 4 people filled it up and no one else could work out. Very annoying when you're there with over 100 of your colleagues. The Beatles staying there is their only claim to fame and that's not enough to make me want to stay there again. The front desk staff refused to give me a complimentary upgrade though they upgraded several of my colleagues and it's not like the hotel was oversold.

I had stayed at the Edgewater about 7 years ago and loved the location, the fireplace, waterfront room. I came back to find it wonderfully remodeled but the same great service and charm, Waterfront room is worth the upgrade, lobby is very cozy and inviting. Only think was the housekeeper forgot to replenish our coffee and clean our cups, but the desk had supplies sent to us within 10 min. of the request.
Enjoyed a terrific happy hour at SixSeven, menu very tasty. This was a special trip and the Edgewater delivered!

Room Tip: Upgrade to the waterfront - worth it!

We decided to spend a night in Seattle before heading East to Snoqualmie. My wife picked the Edgewater Hotel, which left me wondering if it used to be the Edgewater Inn immortalized in Frank Zappa's Live in the Fillmore album of 1971. But no fears, this is not a dive. It is just a bit aged, but very rustic and is in a great location. On the water side, you do need to select between a very weird claw foot tub big enough for one(?), or a bigger room with a balcony. The tub room was a bit claustrophobic, and we moved to the balcony room instead. Our room was fine, it was clean, and the view of Elliot Bay on a sunny day was excellent. As a matter of fact, the anodized aluminum type siding does an excellent job in heating your balcony into a nice little tanning opportunity and this was in Feb. with the outside at about 55 degrees. The bathroom is very usable, and the shower enclosure with it's stone construct attractive. The shower needs to just have a high quality adjustable shower massage and get rid of the stupid hose and shower massage coupled with the ever present and useless Euro Rain shower. In our shower, the shower handle couldn't be mounted in a usable position, so it was kind of annoying. The fireplace and view was very nice, but the room was noisy, the housekeeping starts early and so do the dock workers. So, sleeping past 7? No way is that happening. But the room is comfortable, the Bear ottoman kind of funny, and the staff was very friendly. Valet parking is too expensive and the hotel doesn't make it clear if the gratuity is included and they should fix this detail for a 40.00 fee per day. Valet, Desk, Housekeeping were all very polite and helpful. No problem with attitude. So, all in all, a decent room, a bit pricey, but certainly not a rip off and I would conditionally recommend the Edgewater Hotel as a decent place, but not great.

Room Tip: Try to get out towards the bay, and understand that the balcony and the tub is only in the suites, a...

City view is ok....cost more for water view but worth it. Restaurant food and service was very good....Our reservation was a little late...but they were accommodating. Filet mignon was great and the creme Brule dessert was awesome.

This is a very individual hotel located on a pier on the water with some fantastic views across the water. It's about a half hour by taxi from SeaTac, about 15 minutes' easy walk to Pike's Place Market. I was made to feel very welcome by the staff. Cosy public areas have log-effect fires, with plenty of space too and large windows to enjoy that great view. Spotlessly clean room and an excellent restaurant added to a great stay. It was all too easy to spend a long time over breakfast looking out over the water. My room also had a log-effect fire in it which is controlled by a switch on the wall.
A couple of points to watch...not all the rooms face the water of course, the one I had faced inland and therefore the railway line about 100 yards or so away. The line is busy with freight trains, also coming by during the night and they can be a bit noisy. To be fair, the hotel windows are double-glazed which helps, and they provide ear plugs on the bedside table. I kind of got used to the noise during my stay so did not use the ear plugs, although my sleep was interrupted a couple of times on the first night or two. And second, the room I had was on the small side: although there was a glass-topped table, there was no chair to sit at it with - I am used to staying in hotels where I have a desk to work at. I do not know if other rooms were like this or not.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper or simply want to enjoy that great view, don't book a room facing...
