“GRAND EUROPEAN-STYLE HOTEL IN SEATTLE”
Reviewed 14 June 2012

We just returned from a fabulous five night stay at this lovely hotel and loved everything about it! The location is perfect, meaning you can walk to downtown Seattle, great restaurants & shops. We discovered a wonderful bakery, "Sugar", which is perfect for breakfast or a quick lunch. Of course, it is tough to beat the Room Service breakfast at the hotel, which we enjoyed a couple of mornings! Also, The Hunt Club restaurant is equally charming and delicious! We even enjoyed a live concert on Friday night in the Fireside Lounge, which is so warm and inviting with the wood paneling and large fireplace. Our room was a Junior Suite, which was quite roomy and had a seperate sitting area. The King-size bed was very comfortable and dressed in high quality linens. The marble bathroom was beautiful, but the toliet/shower area was a bit tight---it would be difficult to manage for more portly guests. The parking at the hotel is expensive, but the valets were great. We needed a car to visit the grandkids and friends, but one could certainly have a very enjoyable stay at The Sorrento without a reantal car...they will even pick you up after dinner in the neighborhood! We will definitely return to this grand old-style hotel for more pampering in the future!

I found The Sorrento Hotel online while deciding whether to stay at the host hotels for the conference I was attending in Seattle, or a more "boutique" hotel. It looked unique, the rooms looked large, the bathrooms sizeable, and I was able to book the room at less than the conference room rate at a chain hotel. I was happy for my decision. It was only about 4 blocks from the convention center (even though it took me a couple of tries to find the fastest -- and flattest -- route. My room was quite comfortable (even though they don't have The Golf Channel). The bed amazingly comfortable. Downsides: safety at night (as a woman, I wouldn't recommend walking alone at night from downtown); the HILL (walking from downtown to the hotel is quite steep). Bring good comfortable climbing shoes. A couple of days before I arrived, an email about any amenities or reservations was sent. Nice touch. And the French Press coffeemaker in the room was great. I recommend The Sorrento Hotel if booking a trip to Seattle.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a junior suite. Nice size room. I was at the end of the hall on the third floor. B...

The Sorrento Hotel is just a few short blocks east of Interstate 5 in Seattle's historic First Hill neighborhood. Calling itself the "city's first boutique hotel", the Sorrento opened its doors way back in 1909. Built in the Italian renaissance style, the 7 storey hotel contains 76 deluxe rooms and suites, no two of which are alike. Old world charm and elegance surround you as you enter the front doors and you realize you are in a special hotel. In the guest room, the bedding is superb - like sinking into a cloud. Stylish fixtures complement the extensively marbled bathroom. Amenities are a notch above normal and include a genuine coffee press, Mighty Leaf teas, gilded mirrors, his and hers bathrobes, fine art prints, and for the curious a bound book describing the history of the hotel. Downstairs, the Fireside Room, with its exquisite Honduran mahogany woodwork and irreplacable Rockwood pottery hearth warm the architectural soul while you have a drink and listen to talented jazz duets (with guest vocalists) on weekends if you are lucky enough to find an empty seat. The Hunt Club restaurant next door offers delicious meals with the added perk of a complementary bottle of wine as a guest of the hotel. The Sorrento is extremely good value for the money while providing a romantic getaway from the everyday hustle and bustle.

Room Tip: West side rooms on higher floors could offer views of downtown and Elliot Bay.

Beautiful old hotel, close to hospital, close to city center, but somehow I just can't see returning. The room was comfortable, smallish, and the bed was extra comfie. The valets were super, fast, etc., although parking was ridiculous ($30+) At check in, there was a definite and direct upsell attempt (really -- at 11pm!) and from the limited hours of room service (the phone literally did not get answered at 10:01 a.m.) to the semi-surly attitude of the morning desk....it just does not seem that this hotel warrants the attitude that's presented. Pretty=yes, comfortable=yes, cordial=not so much, worth it=I think not, better values around.

Dear Mrs. Purse,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to post a review from your recent visit and sincerely apologize for my staff's lack of hospitality. As you can see by the other reviews, we normally have very high standards and pride ourselves on our customer service. I am extremely disappointed that we did not exceed your expectations. We had a fabulous stay (2 nights) at the Sorrento. The room was fantastic, service was great, staff was very friendly & helpful. The complimentary shuttle to various downtown locations was always available within 10 minutes.

Booked online and believe me the website looks much better than the hotel actually is. The Sorrento staff went out of their way to provide excellent service, but we were somewhat disappointed with what the hotel had to offer. For one, as shown on the website, there is a rooftop bar/lounge with a great view. Not entirely true, this is only available to private parties and it can be rented for additional cost...not open to the general public or guests. The ground floor bar has outdoor seating next to the sidewalk but there are only three tables and not very scenic. There is only one very small elevator, so we often took the stairs rather than wait for the elevator when the hotel was busy. The lounge had live music on Saturday nite but seating is poor and where we sat (the only table available) we couldn't even see the singer. The hotel is on a steep hill so if you are walking it can be tiring to go anywhere. Hotel parking is very expensive and other options are very limited since this is a very busy medical district. The room we had was fairly quiet at night and our room was L-shaped. This hotel would be just average but I rated it a little higher for the historical aspect and the nice friendly staff.

Room Tip: If you don't like walking the stairs get a lower level room because you may need to use the stai...

We stayed for two nights in May 2012. I was thoroughly impressed with this hotel. The rooms were very nice and comfortable, the staff (from the front desk, concierge, waiters, etc) were all delightful to deal with. While it is not directly in the downtown area, the hotel will take you anywhere you want to go within 2 miles of the hotel (except the cruise ports). And the food was delicious, both in the restaurant and also when we ordered room service. I would definitely recommend it, and if I am ever back in Seattle I will definitely stay there again.
