You need not visit the museum to shop the museum store - which was filled with many unique, diverse, and beautiful items for oneself or for gifts. They have creations from featured local artists, such as a collection of one-of-a-kind lamp shades currently on display. Do not miss.

Even when I didn't live in Seattle, I visited this museum every time I came here. I've been a member for all these years (maybe...50 years?)

We enjoyed the tranquil and open nature of the well-organized Seattle Art Museum. The museum had interesting collections of porcelain, European and Islamic art, African art and costumes, and modern and classic art pieces. Most interesting was an extensive exhibit of ceremonial costumes and other items from the Indian tribes of the northwestern part of the state. The special exhibit of photographs by Zanele Muholi titled “Hail the Dark Lioness” was most impressive.

We really enjoyed the casual atmosphere on a late Thu visit. Not ony is this a really good art museum, staff are very friendly and helpful, and we managed to see an artist event (really good).

Near touristy Pike Market we found SAM a haven of tranquility in comparison. Beautiful building which set off the art. The tree exhibit in the entrance lobby was a wow. Really liked that. Staff and volunteers were exceptional. Informative and enthusiastic which added to the experience. Mixture of art from old masters American artists and First Nation exhibits to more modern forms including some amazing photos by Sonya a ngonyama which we found really thought provoking. Our favourite piece was a sculpture Mann and Maus ! Downside cafe in / next to museum looked uninspiring after a great visit so went elsewhere as plenty of good places nearby. Highly recommend a visit and thanks to volunteers who gave it that little bit extra and put a smile on our faces.
