“Fun, Artsy, Well-Located, and Oh So Comfortable”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

If you'd like to stay in a place that has guest comfort on their priority list, look no further. The Alexis Hotel will not disappoint. I like the fact that they also take dogs, of all sizes (no weight restrictions), even though I have never brought my dogs. It just feels more chill here even though they have an extremely clean, professional demeanor. From the moment you're greeted at the door, you do feel as if you've stepped into something of a sanctuary . . . away from the bustle of city life. Perhaps too, this has something to do with all of the books and magazines that are used for decoration and for your edification. It's delightful to be able to snag a book in your room, the lobby, the Library Bistro, or the Bookstore Bar and sit down and read it while you're there. I mean, how cool is that?

The internet is not free here unless you're a Kimpton member. But, it's isn't difficult to become a member. So, I suggest that, before you go, get online (if you can) and check out what it takes to become a member (if you so desire). It wouldn't hurt since Kimpton tends to be a pretty good brand all around.

The rooms are incredibly delightful as well. If you get a chance to return to Seattle several times, you'll notice that every room is quite different. And, amongst other amenities, if you've forgotten your socks, don't worry, a pair of soft, warm ones are hanging in your closet. Not to mention the robes and slippers, in every room. Many of the rooms also have wood burning fireplaces! On a rainy day, pick your book, a glass of wine, and curl up in front of the fire. When you travel as much as I do, these simple pleasures do not go unnoticed.

The food in the hotel's restaurants is delicious. I can highly recommend just about anything on the menu. And, you won't be disappointed with portions. There is also a spa connected to the hotel, with a small steam room, that sells Aveda products. Their services are very nice. And, don't miss the "Hosted Wine Hour" in the lobby every evening from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Note: don't miss SIFF (Seattle Film Festival). This is a great place to hang out during the film festival. Also, but of course, don't miss Pike Place Market.

Room Tip: Shoot for a higher floor. Most cities have garbage trucks that collect rather early in the morning...

We love being known as a sanctuary in the hustle of downtown, thanks for the great compliment! Some of my favorite rooms here are the fireplace suites, filled with books signed by all of the authors who have stayed with us. Check it out on your next visit - you will love them I'm sure!

This was a second stay for my husband and I and it couldn't have been nicer. We decided to do an upgrade to our room and got a spacious suite with lovely furnishings and a comfy bed. We love the fact that we may bring our small dog with us. There were a few other dogs, but all were well behaved and you just felt like they all belonged there when passing in the lobby. The location is perfect for walking to the waterfront and Pike's market and tons of restaurants. (Luckily the weather was nice!) The staff are very friendly and helpful. We ordered room service for breakfast and it arrived hot and delicious. We'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: Ask about their frequent stay program

We love having all of our furry friends staying with us - the front desk can even keep dogs behind the desk if you need a little time away. Just don't be suprised if your pampered pooch gets a little spoiled after a stay here. haha!

The Alexis is located on 1st Avenue and Madison, a couple of blocks from the water, a few blocks from Pike market. The rooms are comfortable, minibar, as well as the regular amenities, plus a leopard pattern bathrobes. There is a bar and a breakfast/lunch dinner in the hotel. Every night between 5 and 6 they have complementary wine tasting in the lobby, morning coffee and tea is available in the morning. They have complementary bikes available. If you go down Madison that will take you to the ferry terminal. Rather than spending $20+ for a sightseeing boat ride I would recommend taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island. You pay $7.50 per person, and you only pay for going, the ride back is free. We had a great time walking around downtown Bainbridge Island, and the view from the ferry is great, i.e. if you are lucky enough to catch a clear day in Seattle.

Thanks for the review Frafroni! The bikes are great for the summer time, and we do let guests take them on the ferry over to Bainbridge. They come with locks and helmets, so you are all set for a day on the island. We can also pack a picnic lunch for you!

Recently had the pleasure of spending 5 nights at the Alexis, and I can't say enough good things about the place. First of all, the location can't be beat; it's within walking distance to Pike Street, Safeco, Qwest, the Aquarium, and pretty much anything else you could want in downtown Seattle. Second, the building itself is amazingly renovated and full of beautiful art - the suites are unique, beautifully decorated, and packed with amenities. Third, the food is amazing - the burger from the Bookstore Bar was literally the best I'd ever had. And last (and most importantly), the service was completely unparalleled. From the General Manger to the Concierge, to the bellboys, to the hospitality staff; every person we met was highly attentive and extremely friendly. The Alexis clearly hires the best quality staff, and they take pride in their work. It felt like home while we were there, and I can't wait to go back!

Stayed here for a romantic weekend away, visiting Seattle for the first time. Loved the classy yet modern decor of the lobby and rooms. The hallways have unique art, which adds a nice touch. The bathroom was gorgeous. Hotel staff was very helpful.

My only beef was the slow service at the hotel restaurant when we ate there for brunch on Sunday.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 night stay at the hotel. The valet parking is essential for down town Seattle and well worth the cost. The Valets were quick, friendly and explained how I could retrieve my car if needed.
Check in was a breeze; friendly, helpful front desk attendant who accommodated my request for an upgrade to a King size room.
The hotel itself is a work of art, very pleasing, relaxing decor with a nice touch of elegance. My room 414 was very well appointed, comfortable bed, flat screen TV, chase lounge for reading my book along with a desk and spacious closet with large safe. The bathroom is nice, modern decor with all the necessities available. I took advantage of the stand alone three drawer to store my personal belongings, such as cosmetics, curling iron, etc.
Room service was fantastic! Food is excellent and inexpensive. The service was quick and the staff friendly.
Overall, one of my better weekend visits to downtown Seattle. I would easily recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Room Tip: Ask if upgrades are available. Inside rooms have no view of the city.
