I want to love this hotel, and in many ways I do. But its odd lapses and uneven execution detract from an otherwise attractive experience. First, the good: the staff is friendly, wants to do well and remembers your name. Newspapers were brought up to our room at our request. The rooms are quirky but attractively decorated, with the overall effect making up for minor but annoying details like the fact that there are not enough racks in the bathroom to hang the towels or that the LCD alarm clock is very bright and can't be dimmed. The public areas are handsome. The place has a carefully cultivated boutique "look and feel". Now a few examples of the execution lapses: the cleanup and then the evening tidy-up and turndown left dirty glasses and no bathmat. The minibar has some items that are reasonably priced and $4 small water bottles and $15 alcohol miniatures. We spent an hour and a half in the process of trying to get breakfast after being seated. The order was incorrectly prepared and a replacement was offered. When it failed to reappear after an hour (apparently a chef problem), we left without breakfast. There was no manager on duty in the restaurant; the very kind waiter and greeter were deeply embarrassed and apologetic and offered to remove any charges from the bill. We brought this business to the attention of the duty manager at the front desk (apparently the only manager around on a Saturday morning) and she was very apologetic and offered to do something to "make it up". The makeup was a $6.99 retail bottle of wine for and a nice note. I know the travel and hospitality business. The hardest challenge, especially in the upscale sector of the market, is getting a million details right. If the Alexis could get more of them right it would be a five-star experience.

I can see why you were frustrated with us, m6882, and I am thankful you took the time to give us this feedback. The million details are what make a hotel special, and I offer my sincere apologies that we let you down. Please know that your issues are being address on our end, and we will work hard to offer the seamless service our guests expect and deserve. I hope we can get another chance to show you that we can not only get the details right, but make the Alexis a memorable place. My email is jenne.neptune@alexishotel.com, and I would love to hear from you to arrange another visit.

First Av is close to the waterfront and this hotel is midway between Pioneer Square and Pike Place Market. An easy walk to both. Washington apples always available in the lobby. We checked in May 20 to a room ending in 35. It is a big footprint with a big bathroom. Hotel 1000 directly across First Av. Also quite near Pier 521 to take a ferry across Elliott Bay.

Thanks for the review! Just let the front desk know you'd like a coffee maker next time and we'll make sure there is one in the room.

The Alexis Hotel is a warm, comfortable hotel, only a few stories tall, the antithesis of a huge mega-hotel. It's located near Pioneer Square and the Pike Street Market. Good breakfasts in the Library at the hotel in the $15-20 range per person. Nothing fancy, but perfect for a business trip or a weekend getaway. Just two blocks from the waterfront.

Haha, we are definitely not a mega-hotel, but we do put mega-thought into making our guests feel welcome and cozy : )

This was a great location...very close to Pioneer Square, Pike's Place and the water. The room and bathroom were very spacious. The staff was great..had some beautiful Tulips in the room awaiting me. As always, it was Kimpton 5 star service. Loved the bar with lots of options for drinks and bar food. Would definitely recommend to friends and family if they are out there visiting the area.

Fresh flowers are one of the best perks of being so close to Pike Place Market!

The Bookstore Bar was just voted one of the top 12 hotel bars in the country--come check out the new menu next time you're in Seattle!
