The Baroness is a classic, art deco hotel in need of remodeling but staffed by competent cooperative employees. I believe each room has a kitchenette which is convenient. Beds are comfortable and the location for family members of hospitalized patients at Virginia Mason is perfect (right across the street).

I don't believe the hotel has A/C so we just opened the windows. Street noise was not too bad . They have a nice spacious lounge on the first floor and serve free muffins and cookies on selected days. Free computers are also set up in the lounge. Be aware it is rough around the edges but the location and staff make up for that. Laundry facilities are in the basement.

Room Tip: Ask for the patient/family rate and ask for a room on the back side if you are concerned about noise. They have some nice corner rooms too.

Good Afternoon and thank you for your comments regarding your stay earlier this month. No air conditioning can be a challenge when Seattle warms up and we are enjoying a very warm summer. We've made a few room improvements this year (drapes, tvs, bedding) and have a long way to go. Thank you for giving us a try. Please visit us again if your travels bring you back to Seattle!

My husband and I stayed there for two nights. For more than $100 a night (before taxes for the two of us), I was honestly expecting better. The location is okay, if -just like us- you don't mind walking uphill and downhill to explore downtown. The only old thing I loved was the elevator, a bit scary but quite a 'retro' experience. The microwave we had in our room was so old, they had to put a tag on it that said 'microwave'. LOL, to me, it looked like a bread machine. Though everything was old, everything was functional and clean. Since this was a last minute trip and everything else was already booked, we didn't find it terrible. The small kitchen with all the basic things was very useful.
Ok, THINGS I HATED: I didn't like the bathroom, it was too small. The pillows were quite uncomfortable and I found funny that our mattress has a plastic lining. The place is more for people that are staying for long periods of time and don’t mind hotels with a ‘haunted’ look. If you are planning a romantic night, please go elsewhere! I would honestly look for something else next time I go Seattle.

Hi Travelers - Thank you for your comments. I am very glad we could accommodate you for your last minute trip. There are many choices in Seattle and we know our quirky little Baroness is not for everyone. But we try to be affordable, clean and friendly and it sounds like we met that criteria. . .safe travels!

Stayed at The Baroness this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is in a great location - close to transit, pike place and easy to get to most attractions, although it is at the top of a pretty steep hill so if the plan is to walk and you are not into hills that would not be so great. The hotel isn't brand new or all that fancy, and if you are the type to get worked up about things being "out of date" or not in pristine condition, then probably not the place for you. The rooms are clean, and have well equipped kitchenettes so if you want to buy/prepare your own food this works very well - fridge, mini oven, stove top - even pots and pans! The lighting in the rooms is quite dim, and I found the pillows and bed to be a bit hard, but everyone has a different preference in that regard. The room did get a bit too hot for me the first night, but I just opened the window and problem solved. The room itself was very quiet, and to be across from the hospital and not have been disturbed even once WITH the window open is pretty impressive, the staff always pleasant and helpful and there were things like extra towels and blankets in the room so you didn't have to track any of those down. If you just want a nice, clean and quiet hotel to stay in while you see the city, this is perfect without breaking the budget, if you really want the "fancy accommodation" thing more, maybe try somewhere else. We would definitely stay here again!

We had a very nice stay at the Baroness recently. It is cozy, friendly, walkable, in a nice neighborhood, and feels safe and homey. It is not a luxury hotel, but the beds are comfy, there are plenty of towels, and there is lots of hot water. The kitchenettes are really convenient. The front desk staff is always friendly and helpful. The parking is convenient. I was in Seattle for a convention, and only had to walk a few blocks to the convention center. There are wonderful restaurants nearby, and the more exciting areas of downtown and capitol hill are comfortably walkable if you are fit and like to walk. I really like the Baroness, and to those who call it "dated", well, one person's dated is another person's vintage. If it were fancier, we couldn't afford it! It is a very affordable and comfortable option in downtown Seattle. I like it just the way it is!

If you are on a budget, this is an option. We were a group of 6 who were on a trip for business and pleasure. The baroness was very near the Harborview Medical Center where we had some business to do, but it was also walkable but not that near from the Pike market and downtown area. Keep in mind that the return walk would be uphill all the way. The hotel itself is old, everything in it is a bit old, the elevator is a bit outdated as well as the amenities inside the room, though it adds to its appeal as an old hotel. Its a no frills place to stay in, but for the value it was worth it. Room has microwave and kitchen area, TV was relatively new because it was an LED one. For breakfast, the Corner Cafe is literally just around the corner.

Room Tip: Rooms facing front towards Virginia Mason may be noisy with ambulances coming and going. I stayed in a 3rd floor room facing the parking lot, it was quiet but I felt not that safe, window could be easily opened from outside and the room was not that high from the ground

Hi Travelers - Thanks so much for your review. Yes, everything is old at the Baroness! We like to say you get a little bit of the '70s, '80s & '90s in the furnishings of your room. We are proud to say we are making some updates. . .new TVs, drapes, hallway carpet. But the old style service will always be a part of your experience. Please come visit us again soon. . .go Seahawks!
