“Quirky, but great value”
Reviewed 22 July 2014 via mobile

We stayed four nights here in a private en suite room.

I am not sure if the room decor would be to all tastes (ours was mainly tasteful nude photos), but it does make for a unique experience.

The staff were very helpful and the security was excellent, in what can be a lively area of Seattle. The breakfast area tended to be a bit crowded around the 8am start, but looked to be easier after nine.

That said, the choice of cereals, toast, tinned fruit and tea / coffee offered a good start to the morning.

The hostel is close to the Space Needle area and a short walk to Downtown, with plenty of buses if you need them.

In an otherwise expensive city, the price was great value.

Two stays in three weeks. Single elderly lady opted for private room- the first stay needed to share a bathroom which was brand new and immaculate, great shower, even a hair dryer. Second stay had private room with its own bath. Both rooms spacious. Staff efficient and friendly, all the amenities including free wifi, breakfast, tv room, books, etc. Fantastic location with lots of restaurants and bars nearby (some noise issues but who cares!), and walking distance to everything. Can even walk there with your bags from the end of the airport train line if you want. Cannot recommend too highly.

Room Tip: Private room with bath needs to be booked well in advance and it's upstairs with no lift. But th...

Highly recommend! Arrival and check in was painless. Really friendly and helpful staff who can give you hints and tips. No elevator but its only 3 floors. Rooms are spacious with a private bathroom for every 4 bed room. The bathrooms in the hallway are nicer though and plentiful. Interesting and bright decor. Breakfast is filling and offers surprising variety. Kitchen facilities are first rate. In the basement is laundry room, a second lounge area, outside porch and a really cool home cinema room with LOADS OF DVD'S FREELY AVAILABLE TO WATCH, helpful if you get hit by the Seattle rain. Only downside was the noise at night made sleeping difficult. They did not seem to enforce quiet at night. Really great central location! Seattle is a very walkable city.

The staff are friendly and welcoming. The location was really great - cute area a little to the side of the downtown. Good restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. Our room had been painted by a local artist which was cool but crazy, with lots of faces, clashing colours and black making it not the most relaxing room. It did have a sink and was a good size. Really uncomfortable bed. Expensive for what you got but peak season in Seattle is expensive. Book early.

I have stayed here a few times and it is great place to stay.

The staff is very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The place is clean and comfortable. It is well-located in BellTown - a slightly sketchy neighborhood close to downtown.

Since my last stay they have done a small renovation. The showers are now much, much better. I am not so impressed with the kitchen reconfiguration and the complete lack of adequate fridge/freezer space.

There are some noise issues from the street and over enthusiastic guests.

NOTE: They don't accept guests who live in Seattle - so I wont be staying here again.

Room Tip: The rooms have artwork - you can view the rooms on the hostel's website.

I highly recommend staying at City Seattle Hostel.

My husband and I have stayed in our fair share of hostels around Europe. City Seattle Hostel met our expectations as wells as pleasantly surprised us. The hostel was extremely clean and secure, the management and staff were exceptional, and it's in a perfect central location. (rooms can be a bit snug, but the beds are clean and comfortable.)

Our group loved the fact we could easily make it to places like Safeco Field (busses around the corner @ $2.50 each way). Or you could get around with your own two legs and within 5-10 minutes you're at Pike Place Markets, the Piers, or even the Space Needle / Chihuly Glass Exhibit.

Throw in the fact the hostel plays music from artists like Bob Marley all day, free breakfast, free WiFi, movie room, laundry and there are several showers and toilets on each floor. (Did I mention that there is also a great Ethan Stowell restaurant virtually next door?)

Overall you get a great experience both inside and outside this lovely hostel.

This hostel is one of the best I have stayed in. First and foremost the staff were brilliant and very helpful with things to see and do in the local area. The rooms are comfortable and have plenty of space too. The lockers are also large enough to store a small suitcase or backpack and some other things. I was told about a free shuttle bus from a street near the station however I didn't find this at all, however a normal city bus is only $2.50 and from the major interchange on 3rd/Bell, the hostel is only about a 5 minute walk away. There are plenty of toilets and showers on each floor and I never had to wait to sue them. The kitchen is also very organised and has plenty of space to prepare, cook and eat food. The large fridge and freezer is also a good addition. If you are self catering there are several supermarkets nearby and if not then the street is also full of bars and restaurants. All in all this is a great place to stay in Seattle for a great price.
