“Spacious and friendly, hideous decor”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 April 2014 via mobile

Rooms are HUGE with a full kitchen so it's an excellent place for independent travelers. Good location too. Buses to downtown Seattle are frequent and take about 20-40 minutes.

Our room had a big new TV but the rest of the furniture looked like it was from the 80s and there was wall-to-wall carpet everywhere.

Staff was very friendly and responsive. Wi-fi in our room didn't work. The management offered to switch us to another room which we didn't like as much as the one we were staying at so they gave us a little discount instead.
They have a parking space but it's not monitored.

All in all we had no complaints except for the wi-fi.

Spacious suites -- reminds me of older exurban properties except that it's a five minute walk from the campus and (my destination) Meany theater. Squeaky clean, fully furbished kitchen, and friendly competent management. The garage parking was a plus, and I was pleased at the overnight quiet. I plan to return.

Pluses: more like a one-bedroom apartment than a motel suite. Kitchen even has a cutting board. Comfortable beds, dining table and chairs, clean carpet, windows that open, plenty of electric outlets, easy access to public transportation, neighborhood is full of superb restaurants. Minuses: lousy cable, low water pressure in the shower, very non-plush towels. Bring your own coffee and filters. Coffee provided was one envelope per day, de-caf. For $88 a night (AARP), we would definitely stay here again. The pluses far outweigh the minuses.

This place was completely unexpected. We were travelling as a group of friends and just wanted a place to crash out for the night with two bedrooms, and a place to park the car as part of an overnight trip from Vancouver BC to Seattle.

We ended up arriving quite late - fortunately we checked the check-in time and you need to get there by 10pm - we were going to cut this fine and called ahead and the staff member stayed on an extra 5 mins for us to arrive and check in.

This place is completely retro, but not because it's been refurbished and designed like that. Because it doesn't look like its been refurbished since the 60s! However that's not to say that it's shabby nor is it chic. It's been reasonably well maintained. Our room was large - very large. It was cold when we arrived and it took a little while to get the heating going and warmed up. However once the heating got going it was warm and comfortable.

There was a lounge diner that also had a double bed in it, sofa, dining table, bedside table, and an adjoining kitchenette. The kitchen was really something else. Totally 1960s/70s there was a pink general electric cooker that really should have been in a museum that we were able to use as a stove, along with a sink, microwave, and a selection of cooking utensils.

Adjoining the big room was a side bedroom, in itself larger than many modern hotel rooms and with a wardrobe that ran the entire length of one of the walls.

By comparison to everything else the bathroom was small. But again, genuine 1960/70s fittings

There was a phone in the room (we didn't use it) and there was Wifi throughout the hotel. Not especially fast but adequate. Web page to log into. Car Parking in the basement was ok, but would probably run out of space if the hotel was busy.

For the money we paid, and space for 4 people to stay in a "suite" in Seattle this was good value. If you're looking for all mod cons, then this isn't your place. But for something a bit different, with plenty of space and an opportunity to possibly stay somewhere kitted out in the style of when your parents grew up (depending on how old you are!) then this is worth considering.

This was our second stay at the Motel Suites. The rooms are clean and roomy in a great location near the university. We like everything about our stay and we will keep it on our list when we come back.

Room Tip: First floor rooms have a balcony

My husband and I booked a room here to stay while our adult son was undergoing brain surgery at U of W Medical Center. Needless to say, it was a stressful time. The staff was so helpful and friendly, our younger son flew in and they were able to put us in a different room to accomodate all three of us. Nice and clean, being able to cook in the room was nice, and all within walking district of the U District shops and restaurants. Thanks again to the staff for being so friendly and professional! By the way, the surgery went well and he is going to be fine!

If you are expecting a 4 star hotel, do not stay at this hotel. If you are looking to travel on a budget, cook in your own kitchen, and have lots of space this hotel is for you. The manager of the hotel was extremely helpful, and takes pride in his job/hotel. I will be returning to this hotel in the future.
