Stayed here once before in the mid-1990's and loved it then. We were very pleased to find the same excellent quality of lodging experience this time with the same ownership. We stayed in the Rose room on the second floor. It is a warm and cozy room with a window out on to the garden and patio below. Staying at the Bacon Mansion is a little like stepping back in time. The mansion was built in 1909 and is lavishly furnished with period pieces and accessories from that era. Daryl, the owner, welcomed us when we arrived and he and his staff treated us as family during our stay. They gave us great advice and help on getting around Seattle and restaurants the locals frequent. The mansion sits in a quiet residential neighborhood and an evening walk down the street is like walking through a garden. All of the houses have terraced gardens in front with the houses sitting high up on the properties. This is the perfect, quiet and relaxing place to come back to after a day of doing all the Seattle "tourist" things. We highly recommend the Bacon Mansion.

My East Coast family came to Seattle for a couple of days and I wanted a non-hotel environment to stay. The Bacon Mansion was an excellent choice! We had 4 rooms between us, including the Coach House which was perfect for gathering outside between activities. We had Whole Foods cater food one night (too small a group for the Bacon Mansion to cater), set up on one of the tables outside, and had a great time.
We were a short walk to Broadway, which has good restaurants & interesting shops. Access to UW and downtown Seattle was quick & easy either driving or using the Seattle bus system.
Daryl was a great Innkeeper - always available when we had questions, and very accommodating to our family gathering. Thanks to him and the Bacon Mansion, my family had a great time and has thanked me several times for picking an excellent choice for a place to stay.

We loved the location of the Bacon Mansion (Capitol HIll)... easy walking to a multitude of fabulous and CHEAP restaurants, generally quiet location, near Volunteer Park, 10-min bus to Pike's Market, etc. However, the Bacon Mansion is in need of some TLC.

We stayed in the Clipper Room the first night. The shower is TINY and a part of the main room (a little weird) and the mattress was so hard that we requested to change rooms the next morning, which Darryl accommodated for an extra fee to upgrade to the Capitol Suite (which was thankfully available) with a nice king bed. The Capitol Suite has a huge main room plus a smaller sun room with smaller bed, but again, the room is in need of TLC... bathroom tile has holes in it, paint is peeling, blinds are dirty, the water from the faucet tastes AWEFUL (water elsewhere is fine). The sleeping room and bed were very nice, in general, but in combination with a small (but adequate) breakfast of fresh muffins, fruit salad, yogurt, cereal and juice/coffee/tea, the Clipper Room at $164/nt or Capitol Suite at $204/nt is a bit too pricey given the condition of the rooms, in my opinion. However, I'd take a B&B on Capitol Hill over a downtown hotel any day (hotels also charge about $40/day for parking addition to the traffic noise).

Contrary to some other reviews, Darryl was very nice and helpful during our entire stay. I would still recommend the Bacon Mansion, just know that you're paying for location and I'd suggest checking availability of other options on Capitol Hill before making your final decision.

This B&B Is run by a great staff! It's on Capitol Hill, near all the great shops on Broadway, near Volunteer Park and the Washington Park Arboretum.
Easy and close to the freeways and great acess to the Downtown area of Seattle.

A bunch of us stayed here for a friend's wedding, and I have to say the location was great. The owners/managers were not. They were outright rude at times, which surprised me. So many of us were from out of town, and they acted like asking questions was an imposition. I wouldn't stay here again for that very reason. For the same price, you can stay elsewhere where I am sure the service will appreciate your interest and dollar!

The Bacon Mansion is centrally located on Capitol Hill in Seattle. We stayed two nights in the Capitol Suite, which is even larger than it appears on the B&B's Web site. The Capital Suite has two rooms that are separated by French doors. The larger room has an enormous four-poster king-size bed, two sofas, a desk, two sitting areas, two huge bureaus, and a large walk-in closet. The smaller room has a queen-size bed, small sitting area, small refrigerator, and a small vanity with a sink. The king-size bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in, and the queen-size was more than adequate. The rooms feature gorgeous period furniture, all lovely warm wood & cushy upholstered chairs & sofas.

Fresh, hot strong coffee (or hot water/tea) is left outside your door at 7:30 each morning. Breakfast is from 8:30-9:30 in the formal dining room. Everyone sits at a single huge, beautifully decorated table. Food was excellent, but light - homemade muffins, fresh fruit salad, yogurt, a couple kinds of cereal. Juice, coffee & tea to drink.
Common areas are lovely, and there is a baby grand piano in the living room. While we were there, another guest played beautifully each evening.

The gardens feature exquisite flowers, with many small tables tucked away so that you can have a nearly private experience. We enjoyed sitting outside with our coffee in the morning before breakfast.

The B&B is within walking distance of numerous excellent restaurants & interesting shops on Capitol Hill. The location is also very close to downtown Seattle, if you want to drive or take the bus.

Beware: The sofa bed is unusable for sleeping. It is truly terrible - lumpy, tilted, with the metal bar pressing firmly into your back. Do not attempt to even put kids on it - they will be more comfortable on the floor.

Remember that this is an old mansion - so the water pressure in the second floor rooms is nearly nil. The water scarcely dribbles out of the fixture.

There is no air conditioning, so we had to throw open all the windows to get any relief during the warm, sunny weather. (I know, we aren't complaining.) If you need a cool room to sleep, don't come here when it's sunny.

The windows do not have screens, which was a problem for me. When we were in the room after dark & had the lights on, all the flying insects were attracted by the lights and came to join us.

Also, the house has lots of spiders. Not venomous spiders, but they were too large & too numerous for me nonetheless. The rest of my family doesn't mind creepy crawlies, and didn't even notice all the 6 & 8-legged occupants. But I did. If you're concerned about bugs, don't come here in the spring/summer.

As a member of the media, I was looking for solitude, mainly, in a place with charm. This place more than met my expectations. Daryl, our host, informed us of the itinerary, then left us alone. Aside from prompt room service, we enjoyed a private fireplace (our room was in the basement — I highly recommend) and we had a romantic stay. When we wanted company, we joined breakfast and met the greatest people. Located right outside of everything Seattle, the Bacon Mansion was perfect for our needs. Ask Daryl for anything — he is most accommodating.

  • Liked — Old World Charm Friendly Host
  • Disliked — Internet Service a little lacking in basement
