This such a beautiful park. Too bad it is right off a busy street with cars constantly going by. The cars make it hard to enjoy the tranquility of what a Japanese tea garden should be. The grounds and stunning and the ponds are full of Koy which will gather around you looking for food any time you get near the water. If you like tea gardens, I would still recommend making the trip. The admission was very reasonable.

My husband and I toured the gardens on Saturday, September 7. It was a clear and sunny day, making it ideal for visiting. The grounds are incredibly manicured, and a koi pond sits in the middle of luscious greenery. I took two dozen pictures or so, and could have taken more. One spot was more beautiful than the other. Throughout the gardens, there are benches for you to sit and take it all in. This truly was my favorite site in Seattle.

The Japanese Tea Garden is a paid section of the Washington Arboretum. If you are planning to visit the arboretum, then by all means make a stop at the Japanese Tea Garden. However, if you are only visiting Seattle and staying near Pike's Market (as most tourists do), be aware this is quiet a haul and only worth visiting if you are going to make an entire day of it by spending time in the arboretum as well.

We had a wonderful time. We got there and they had a guided tour. The guide told you a lot of history of Japanese gardens and their design. Made me want to go home and build one in my backyard.

This is an immaculate, gorgeous garden that is definitely worth a visit at any time of year. It is an excellent demonstration of that inspiring Japanese approach of balancing the meticulousness of human design and engineering with the "natural elements" of environment, seasonal changes and life. I would definitely recommend joining the free walking tour included with your admission ($6) if it's your first time visiting as it was an excellent guide to the garden and can definitely help Japanese garden novices like me to appreciate the layout, philosophy, design and function of the garden much more.
