“Interesting small gallery”
Reviewed 17 August 2013

There were at least four special exhibitions, of which two of photographs were the most engaging. An exhibition titled "The Ghosts of Architecture" also appealed to me, but the works by Paul Laffoley weird just too weird.

“A great little gallery”
Reviewed 20 May 2013

Always make a point of visiting the Henry when I'm in Seattle, and I'm never disappointed. My timing hasn't been good the last couple of visits because the downstairs galleries were closed. Nonetheless, I saw an excellent photography exhibition and an intriguing display of abstract prints and paintings based on the surfaces of outbuildings in the Harris and Lewis, islands in the Hebrides (which I traveled to in my twenties). If you enjoy visual art, don't miss the Henry!

“Classy and Intellectual Museum”
Reviewed 13 April 2013

The Henry Gallery is what a university art museum should be. The exhibits we saw were intellectually stimulating and represented excellent contemporary art. We really enjoyed an exhibit of photography challenging ones conception of beauty, "Out [o] Fashion Photography: Embracing Beauty". Another exhibit "Now Here is also Nowhere" left us a bit confused, but in a good way with lots of questions that needed answering. A Sean Scully exhibit deftly illustrated how photographs could inspire painting. Definitely a first class contemporary art museum worthy of the University of Washington.

“http://henryart.org/- check this before your trip”
Reviewed 19 May 2009

The Henry is by far the most representative of modern, youthful, conceptual art in Seattle. If they have a reception, opening or event listed- by all means try and make it. This is the prime place for 'art meets dance' party events.
Well worth the trip to the U-district.

“The Henry Art Gallery is the best place in Seattle.”
Reviewed 8 May 2009

If my out of town visitors have time to go to only one of Seattle's attractions I bring them to the Henry Art Gallery. The galleries always hold secret treasure and the programming is among the most innovative in the Pacific Northwest.

It is a great place to go on a date as it's open airy feel is really romance-y. It's a great inspiration station in the middle of the work day too! Just last week, I had my Parisian intern meet me there so we could look at the William Kentridge and Ann Lislegaard shows. It is a great place for Staycationers as it is always changing . . . come for a short visit to get excited about Seattle all over again. Definitely bring a note pad as you will have lots of good ideas to jot down!
