“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

Service was fantastic. The desk had a great since of humor . They are very helpful and gave great restaurant suggestions. My daughter is a tease. She told the desk clerk that our clock in the room was 3 minutes off. The desk clerk said ok and picked up the phone to call someone to the room and then my daughter told them she was just kidding. We all had a great laugh.

Room Tip: I would stay here again. This was my second visit.

I'll get the bad out right away. We had booked a "King Suite" with the expectation of having a separate bedroom from the living area where the kids would be sleeping on a hide-a-bed. That is no longer the case at HIE hotels, as the king bed was separated from the living area by a wall about the same height as the bed. Makes no sense to me to make the kids sleep on a hide-away if we can't have a separate adult sleeping space. So, here is where the good begins:

After checking into our aforementioned "King Suite," I went down and explained my thoughts to Chloe, who as working the front desk. She completely understood my thinking and gladly changed us to a ready double queen room with no problems, even though at least one of my family had used the bathroom in the original room. Soon after moving into the double queen room, one of my other children came out of the bathroom and explained that she had clogged the toilet. We called for a plunger and within minutes, Chloe showed up at our door with the plunger and told us to just leave it in the room in case we had additional problems (we did not have any other problems, it was just the misuse of the low flow toilet by our daughter).

Later when we were going out, we stopped to ask questions about the area, since we were moving our daughter to college here, and again Chloe gave us plenty of advice and recommendations. Ok, are you seeing a theme here. CHLOE! She is great and a real asset to this hotel. (Hey, HEI, Chloe deserves a raise!)

We also received wonderful service from Amber, at the front desk, as well as housekeeping (stayed 3 nights and room was all prepped for us every day), and the staff that maintains the breakfast area.

Breakfast each morning consisted of some type of eggs, meats (bacon/sausage), make-your-own pancakes, breads (muffins/bagels, etc.) yogurts, among other things.

Other than my misunderstanding of "suite" here, our stay was really quite pleasant. And even that bit of misadventure was smoothly and professionally handled by Chloe.

We will definitely stay here again on future visits.

Room Tip: Suites don't mean separate bedroom and living areas.

This Holiday Inn Express was on par with others I have stayed at in the US and Canada. The front desk folks were friendly and helpful (lent us a wine bottle opener). The breakfast was similar to all other HI express's except they had a rice cooker for some reason, so I had a little rice with Surichi sauce. The room was clean, average size; the bathroom was pretty tight and the sink area was very small. The fitness room was workable, not fancy, but things worked. The hallways, elevators, stairways, etc were all well kept and maintained. The location is in a bit of a sketchy neighborhood. There is a good mexican restaurant just a minute drive.

The hotel was in an older neighborhood, but once inside was very nice. The room was great. My only complaint was about Anthony. He was the manager in duty at check-in as well as check out. When asking questions at the front desk in both days he was very rude and put no effort into assisting me as the customer. Luckily another person was at the front desk during checkout and she was a delight!

We stayed here for 6 nights (although we left and spent one night in Vancouver we just left our stuff in the room as it was easier) and we were very pleased with our stay. We read the reviews and were aware of the area, an although it does look a little run down, we weren't walking around in the area so it didn't matter. The hotel itself is very nice and the employees are very friendly. Our rooms were clean and spacious. It's only a 20 minute drive, at most, to downtown Seattle. We had 2 rooms and were very happy with everything.

Nice property and good location. Fairly close to I-5 freeway but no noise from same. Nice rooms and very clean & quiet. Front desk is very efficient and pleasant. The breakfast is quite good with a nice selection to choose from. It is about a 10 minute drive to the Northgate shopping center.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Aurora Ave for 7 days in July 2013 while visiting a relative in Seattle and touring the Seattle area and the attractions in the area. For some reason some people picked on this hotel for little stuff, and that is unfair. If you have ever stayed in a Holiday Inn Express, then you know what you are in for - a very nice, clean hotel with nice rooms, comfortable beds, and a decent breakfast every day. Our room (Room 212) was very nice with updated furnishings and it was very clean. The housekeepers did a great job maintaining the rooms and we always had everything we needed. The beds are very comfortable and the room had a small refrigerator in it to keep some drinks and basic food. Everything functioned well. We did have a problem with a slow drain in the bathroom sink, but the staff had someone come up and fix it for us - it was even on the 4th of July holiday and they were still able to resolve the problem!

The breakfast was nice and as expected. We always has fresh eggs every day - either scrambled or cheese omelets on alternate days and they had hard boiled eggs available every day. They also have plenty of cereals, yogurt, fruit, toast, etc ..... They did a nice job maintaining it and keeping it fresh. We ate there every morning. Some people on this site complained about the breakfast, but I don't know what they were expecting. It is a nice basic breakfast. If you need something bigger or fancy, go out for breakfast!

My only complaint is for the gym in the hotel. It is basically useless. Both treadmills have problems and many of the buttons on them do not work. In order to reset the one closest to the window so it could be used I had to pull the red "panic" cord to shut it down, then plug it back in to set a new program. Also they have a FEW dumbells in there, but no pairs of anything with decent weight - really? Only a SINGLE 20# dumbbell in there to use? I did my best with what they had there, but it was very frustrating. Spend the money people and at least replace one of the treadmills in there!

Outside of the Gym, this is a great place to stay and I highly recommend it. It is definitely the nicest place around and still close enough to get to downtown Seattle in 10 minutes or so.
