Happened upon the Last Resort Fire Department accidentally. It conveniently located on 2nd street almost exactly between the Waterfalls Park and the Klondike museum. Beautifully restored fire trucks in the original firehouse! A volunteer at the front desk will fascinate you with interesting facts about the building and trucks. The LRFD is a non-profit. The museum is free but a donation is requested. Your kids will love this place and so will you!

The only problem with this museum is the limited hours that it is opened. Check the web site for hours: http://lastresortfd.org/museum.htm
The trucks are beautifully restored and in immaculate condition and all are fully operational. It is incredible to see all these antique trucks in one location, and the personnel are very eager to answer questions. You will not be disappointed in viewing the displays as well. A must see for young and old, and each fire truck has a print out, which is free, for one to take home and explains all about the particular vehicle....I was so impressed.

a unique look back on the tools we have used to fight fires through the years. Well worth the time to see.

Clang Clang Clang. You can almost hear the clang of the old fire truck brass bells and the bark of the Dalmatian mascot dog. This free museum is filled with old fire trucks dating back to an 1834 hand pumper. Kids and big kids like me will go crazy with all these vehicles.

We happened to be in this part of Seattle while this free museum, manned by volunteers, was open. At this time of year (Fall) that is from 11-3 on Wednesdays. Galen Thomaier, retired from the Seattle Fire Department, and his fire-fighter dad saw to it that the station, which was no longer going to be used for current equipment, would carry on as an informative tribute to those who rush into fires while the rest of us would run away. We spent perhaps an hour there with this dedicated and enthusiastic man as he answered our questions and explained many things to us about Seattle's history and its fire-fighting equipment. Several trucks are on display covering many years of service. Because it was an actual firehouse, there is even a firemen's pole. We were especially impressed that there is a photo display of the horses who worked with the firemen during the earlier years, including their names. We wished that there had been a copy of that for sale as a great souvenir of a place that magnified a segment of Seattle life for us, being part of a truly great vacation in that city. The entire museum is indoors. For details, activities and events in which LRFD participates see: www.lastresortfd.org
