“We got married here, and we return frequently!”
Reviewed 5 July 2011

This is without question the "Grand Dame" of Seattle Hotels.
The exterior is classic, and upon entering the "Lobby", a grand mult-floor height marble hall, one feels like this is one of the grand European hotels.

We were married here several years ago, in a small family-only ceremony in the Cascade Suite, a marvelous one-bedrom 3,400 sqft suite with a private dining room (where we had a private dinner served).
Unfortunately, there is no way to make that into a suite with several bedrooms, despite the grand living area; the most that can be enclosed in privacy - and safety for young children - is with one other executive suite.
Therefore, we've also stayed in the only 3BR suite in the Hotel (still not quite large enough for the family). As far as we know, the other corner suites are 2BR at most.

Usually, when it is just the two of us, we stay in a large executive suite, and occasionally in the larger bedroom (part of the corner parlor suite that goes with the 2-bedroom suite... and with the one 3-bedroom suite).

As wonderful as this hotel is, there are some problems with the heating system, such that it is tricky to get a room that isn't too warm.
We now know which rooms to request, and we call ahead and remind the Front Desk staff that we'd like the thermostat turned "as cool as possible".

The service here is absolutely the best. With special requests for a large extended family, the hotel staff came through with everything from tiny bathrobes for children (which we of course purchased for the grandchildren!) to getting a prescription refilled on short notice.
And we've arranged special meals in the Georgian Room (the first time, when we could still hand-carry a special bottle of wine on board a commercial flight), and it was just perfect.

We tried another hotel, and we walked out of the new Four Seasons (The Olympic *used to be* a Four Seasons), which was in one of the few seamy areas left in downtown.
We then tried one of the new high-rise hotels, but it was like walking into the (small) lobby of an office building, simply to be spirited upstairs on the elevator right by the front door.
(To due justice to this other Hotel, it did have a wonderfully huge and deep bathtub, with water that came out of the ceiling; if only our grandchldren could have seen THIS!)

But the suite was just "another modern hotel suite", albeit one with very soothing displays on the walls, a very "zen" sensation to be sure, one lasting the full stay.

The Fairmont Olympic has become "our home away from home" during our frequent and occasionally extended trips to Seattle and the surrounding area.

The Fairmont Olympic Hotel is a great hotel in Seattle to stay at. It has consistently excellent service, helpful staff and a great location which is walking distance to Seattle shopping. The rooms are traditional and lovely, the beds comfortable with big cozy duvets.

The pool & fitness facility are very well appointed with not many people around using it. The check in/out process was smooth as always...I have to say here that Fairmont is just a fantastic hotel group to stay with.

One of the evening we stayed we were heading out to the Crab Pot for dinner and went down to get a cab...the doorman called the hotel car for us instead which was available and drove us to the restaurant for no extra charge...just a tip for the driver who gave us the card to call when we were reay to be picked up again. It was a 2011 Jaguar with all the bells and whistles which pleased my husband :)

Every time we stay we always end up in the lounge to people watch, the service here is always excellent and the desserts are amazing.

We always stay here at the end or beginning of a cruise as it is only 1 mile from the train station to go home after and a less than $20 cab ride to the port.

I absolutely recomment this hotel to anyone travelling through Seattle, you won't be disappointed.

We had a very pleasant two night stay at this majestic hotel.
The doormen, valet, porters and front desk personnel were courteous, friendly and professional.
The accommodations are superb.

I've been aware of the Olympic for many many years, back when it was a Four Seasons property. Attended functions, eaten, had drinks but never actually stayed until now, so expectations were fairly high given it's long standing premier reputation.

It retains the all feel of a classic grand old hotel inside. The public areas are very pleasant, fitness center and pool are appealing. The rooms are spacious, the beds extremely comfortable. Good sound isolation from other rooms and hallways though less so from the street even up on our 10th floor level. Our room was rather dark though with a single small window.

A bit lacking in modern features though with no electrical outlets accessible except in the bathroom. No coffee makers are provided unless requested and we gave up waiting the first morning after an hour. TV channel volume defaults to deafening upon each switch on. Internet access a costly extra. Some of the furniture and carpets were looking very well worn and faucets will splash you at any opportunity. The room remained too warm overnight despite maxing out the AC and leaving the rather noisy fan on, and this was on a gray, overcast day.

With the one exception noted above, the service was very prompt, polite and attentive. Clearly this is a top priority and it shows. It doesn't -quite- make up for the rather mediocre rooms for me though. I'm pleased to have sampled it but likely won't stay again when there are several other more modern choices nearby.

Room Tip: courtyard side rooms probably quieter

We stayed for three nights at the end of May on vacation. I had found a promotional rate through Orbitz that made the price reasonable, considering how expensive is Seattle. I did not find anything about this hotel that I can complaint about, it was simply excellent in all ways. The staff was very professional and helpfull, specially at the spa and concierge. the room was extremely well appointed, best bedding I ever experienced in a hotel, and the pillows were feather, the expensive ones. Robes and slippers, umbrella in the closet, along with the customary. a scale in the bathroom to see the damage done to the waistline. Make-up mirrors in the bathroom, extra thick towels, top end toilettries, everthing you would expect and require for a place that claims five stars. The spa facilities were top notch, along with the pool area and locker room. they provided complementary coffe, bottled water, apples, and papers at the spa/pol, so you could sit at the adjacent terrace and relax reading the papers (NY Times, USA Today and local), go for a soak and then change. All kind of tolettries available in the locker room, not just your shaving cream and cheap cologne. robes and slippers there too! The location is excellent, downtown, and one block from the skytrain station on Third Ave. This leaves you a twenty minute ride to the Seattle-Tacoma airport, extremely convenient if you are a mere pedestrian, which is highly recomended in Seattle. If you need transportation to visit something out of town, you can rent a car there, but ditch the rental immediately inSeattle and use the Skytrain!! the bars was excellent, with a nice happy hour and their food, starters, were pretty good. I will return again if money is no object!!!!!!!

Lovely, historic hotel convenient to all of Seattle's sights. Staff members were friendly and helpful and the hallways were so quiet. Easy to relax. Our room was a junior suite and was just lovely. Matress was divine!.
