“Disappointed for the money spent”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

The hotel is beautiful, staff was friendly, but i was a bit disappointed with some little issues that i didn't expect considering the amount of money this hotel charges.
1. no free wifi -- i think it is a bit ridiculous in this day and age that hotels are charging for wifi, especially in large cities like Seattle where it is a tech hub of sorts and when you have a lot of business travelers.
2. carpet - ok, so i get it that the hotel is old, but i felt like the corners of the carpet right at the baseboards were dark and dirty. You can keep the antique charm, but get some clean/new carpets in there!
3. Parking - if you choose to valet park, it's $47, if you want to park yourself in the garage across the street, it's $37 -- and if you arrive after 5pm, the parking is $10. We parked ourselves since we needed to sort through our stuff -- it was such a pain to get out of the parking structure to get to the hotel, especially with a stroller and kids. The bottom floor of the parking structure, you still need to hit a few stairs, if you want to access the "handicap" ramp, you have to call a phone number!?!? We parked on level E, it says "elevator" this way -- we get to the door, and you have to go through stairs to get to the elevator!! So, we had to walk down one level to get to the elevator.
4. We were on the 4th floor and the windows aren't that soundproof. You can hear cars speeding by, ambulance, etc. I don't expect it to be completely soundproof, but it was like we had a window open.
5. The Cooling was terrible -- we had one vent, and it was on the windowsill. If you want to keep the drapes closed, you basically block the flow of cool air into your room. We had the room set to 55 and high fan. And really now, they can't update the thermostats??

Anyway, the hotel is nice, beautiful lobby, lots of history and charm, service was good, but the hotel needs some renovation. For the amount of money that we spent, i was thinking we probably should've tried the W. Overally, disappointed for the money.

Room Tip: The higher the floors the better

Thank you for being our guest. Please accept my apologies for the disappointments and any inconvenience you experienced. I am glad to read that our staff were friendly and could be of service, and I also appreciate your feedback. Please be advised that we do offer complimentary Wi-Fi in our lobby lounge to all guests, and it is also available in the hotel to our President's Club members. We would be happy to assist you in signing up for this complimentary service during your next visit. I am also pleased to share that do have plans in place to replace guestroom windows, and we continue to replace carpets throughout the hotel. I hope that we may have the opportunity to welcome you back, and that we may see you here again in the future.

Best wishes,

Guy Bittner
Director of Operations.

I stayed here for a birthday trip and it was amazing. The hotel is pristine and the staff are exceptional. Typically US service is good but this really was way beyond anything I have experienced anywhere else.

We were fortunate enough to get a suite and it was very roomy. There was a huge bathroom and separate living and sleeping areas, each with a TV.

Our concierge made some wonderful suggestions and booked restaurants for us. I was also allowed a visit to use their computer suite to send an important email at no cost, which was a nice touch. The bar does fantastic cocktails too.

Location wise everything in the city centre is walkable. In all I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

I had planned this trip for many months and the hotel exceeded my every expectation. My room was very comfortable with just about everything you could wish for. Wifi is free for Executive Club members. The one thing missing for me from the room was an ipod dock but I guess this is less important now with later generation ipads etc. Everywhere was scrupulously clean. The staff were, without exception, friendly, courteous, and helpful. I ate breakfast there and the buffet choice is enormous. I also had room service a couple of evenings and it was delicious and beautifully presented. A couple of things in the room worth particular mention were the safe which was one of the easiest to use I've ever seen and the one cup coffee maker.

Green Features: The first hotel I've stayed in with a recycling bin in the room

Had meetings at the hotel and the service was impeccable. The meeting catering and services were very good. The hotel is very old but the rooms are updated and have lots of charm. Also a very good location.

The location was perfect, in the middle of everything. Shuckers restaurant attached to the Hotel served some really great food (divine oysters) and the waiter we had was brilliant. The room was lovely albeit slightly noisy with the aircon units nearby. Breakfast was epic and the evening pianist in the bar made for a very luxurious stay.

This hotel has a charm of its own. It's a protected historical building, very well presented and clean. As it is an environmental friendly hotel there are no chemical cleaning smells to endure. The staff are very friendly and helpful, going out of their way to make you feel comfortable. For that little bit of extra money it offers more than other hotels in comparison.

Olympic was good but expensive. Activating the Presidents Club was a nightmare and was never achieved. The staff were great and genuine.

We had a really bad experience at Fairmont Jasper which was the absolute opposite if the Olympic in terms of staff and quality of rooms.
