This used to be a fabulous goto higher end restaurant in Magnolia area. I was a bit shocked by the poor service. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant, too. My salad was limp and drenched in dressing. I won't go back to a place I've been going for a decade.

Szmania's is the type of restaurant you least expect to find in a small neighborhood like Magnolia but they have been a fixture for many years. Ownership changed this year with the original owners retiring and selling to one of the former head chefs and he has done a great job of keeping up the quality. Originally specializing in Germany and French cuisine, their main focus today are steaks, BIG steaks, and high quality. This is a carnivorous dream and expect to want a nap after dinner and one of their killer desserts.

I was in town recently for business and was stuck in a massive traffic jam. Decided to find a place to eat to let things clear out. Wound up in this fantastic neighborhood (Magnolia) and stopped at this restaurant. The staff was very pleasant and efficient. The mood of the restaurant was very nice with some patrons in jeans while others were in sport coats. The food was fantastic. Had a side salad with wasabi dressing that was phenomenal. The only problem was the price. Once tip was factored in, the price tag was 40 dollars for just one person. This was comprised of a pasta dish, side salad and one beer plus tip. If you are looking for a really nice meal and price is not of concern then this is a great choice. I would have rated this restaurant as excellent but the cost, especially where there is no view, brought it down.

We wanted to enjoy a dinner in Magnolia Village and this place popped up on TA as a good one. Well, we agree! We popped in early, hoping they were open, only to find that they have a nice bar area, not dank and dark, where they have happy hour as well as dinner. We tried that and got a nice table at the window. Our server, Mallory, was upbeat and excited to tell us about the happy hour offerings, the dinner specials as well as items on the menu. We started with steamed clams served with homemade andouille sausage and white beans in a delicious broth served with tasty bread to soak up the sauce. Yummy . Tried the beef skewer served over good German coleslaw. A bit dicy but very tasty. At this point, we were getting a bit full so we split an entree of dinner scallops served with fingerling potatoes and a delicious warm beet salad. Perfect. Happy hour for the 2 appetizers was $8.00 each, and the entree was $26.00. With drinks we paid about $60.00 for a delicious meal. Loved this place ( food, service, ambience) and would definitely go back when in the area..

New owners and new menu, but Chef Michael's new menu incorporates some of the long term favourites but with several new items on the menu, there is something there for everyone. Our party of 4 had the seafood cacciatore, Michael's stuffed chicken, the muenster cheese onion bacon tart, which were all excellent, and well priced, followed by desserts of pavlova and white chocolate clementine tart. Good sized servings, well presented. The staff were friendly, energetic and attentive, so all in all, an excellent dining experience.
