The Arctic Club Seattle - a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel

Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 14 January 2014

This Doubletree "Arctic Club" hotel has a great location, wonderful staff, and awesome decor from early 1900's. Service is impeccable. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Slept great. A little more expensive than a couple other brands in the area but worth the price difference for the loyalty points or a getaway treat.

Business brought our first meaningful visit to Seattle and the property was exactly the experience that we enjoy. Not the ordinary cookie cutter accommodation, the hotel oozes history and the bygone era during which the building was constructed.

From the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more professional, cordial and helpful.

Our accommodation, room 811, a King corner room, was clean, very comfortable and provided the perfect retreat. We fully embraced the amenities offered as we relaxed at the Polar Bar and enjoyed our meal at Juno.

Our four nights were really extraordinarily comfortable and we will definitely return to The Arctic Club when we find ourselves again heading to Seattle.

Room Tip: Some reviewers have complained of road noise. We did not experience that issue on the 8th floor. O...

I love this hotel. The dedication to preserving the vintage feel of this property made this a delightful stay in this hotel. The property was built in 1917 and the heritage is lovingly preserved from the front door to the smallest of details. It is located less than one block from the Pioneer square light rail stop. We arrived early and were greeted with enthusiasm by the wonderful staff. The front desk outlined our extra benefits from being a Hilton Diamond member, free wifi, free breakfast, and an upgraded room. We felt spoiled just arriving in the lobby. The bell desk quickly stored our bags and we retired to the lobby by the massive fireplace to eat our warm cookies, sip the fruit infused water and relax on the comfy sofas. We got a phone call by 2 PM that our room was ready. We were thrilled with room 800. It is far removed from the main corridor, around 2 corners and tucked into the south east corner. It is a king room with a sofa and a nice deco type chair. The bath is large with over 5 foot tall windows, a generous marble topped vanity, tall shower, makeup mirror, vintage tiles, lighting and wall paper, great wide molding around the ceiling, vanity and floor. The bed is comfortable with a down comforter, lots of fat feather pillows and perfect reading lights. By the photos, you can tell how enamored I was with the attention to detail with using vintage style lighting that was perfect with the character of the hotel. We were amused with the walrus logo and found we were doing a scavenger hunt for all the walrus items. We found this on the door numbers with much appreciated lights over each room number. We found the pillows, throw blanket and the stuffed walrus fun and nicely complementing the history of the hotel. Breakfast in Juno was wonderful with the nice young man from Spokane being a very attentive waiter and the crab cakes hollandaise sauce a decadant way to start the morning. We had a late check out and luxuriated in returning back to bed to read the complimentary Sunday paper.

I love the fact that this doesn't look like any of the cookie cutter hotels. The staff are spot on, friendly, enthusiastic and providing stellar service. I will be definitely booking here again!

Room Tip: Room 800 is on the south east side, very quiet, big space.

While we live right up the road in Redmond, we decided that we wanted to make a night out after the Seahawks playoff game against the Saints, so we looked for hotels near Century Link with solid reviews. We chose the Arctic Club, and we were very pleased with our decision.

We arrived far too early to checkin (around 9am), but they were very welcoming, offering us warm chocolate chip cookies, holding our bags for us, letting us get some of the paperwork out of the way, and offering maps or cab service if we needed it. From the very beginning, we were excited by the architecture and decor. Great attention to detail and a very unique style.

After the game, we returned and claimed our room. Since we knew we'd spend very little time in the room, we booked a smaller, cheaper room. Despite that, it was immaculately clean and, once again, the attention to detail in design was superb. The bathroom, in particular, with its tiling, unique wallpaper, woodwork, and spacious design was excellent. The bed was incredibly soft - almost too tempting given that we still planned to have a night out on the town.

We walked to several of the nearby bars and restaurants, enjoyed an excellent dinner at 1000 Spirits, and came back for one last nightcap at the hotel bar prior to getting some much needed sleep. The bar had a great selection of spirits and, being TV free, was a nice compliment to the fairly crazy sports day we'd had so far. We both slept like rocks in the bed, and the front desk was just as pleasant on checkout as checkin.

While we don't have much excuse to stay in Seattle being so close, if we do again The Arctic Club will definitely be high on our list.

Room Tip: Even the "cheap" rooms are good rooms. It's all about if you want/need a view or not.

This hotel is very historic and beautiful. So much charm and you must see the ball room ceiling. WOW I am so glad it has been preserved. For my office location this hotel is well located. I stay here very often.

As a Seattle native, I've been around to watch the transformation of this classic building in downtown Seattle. The current incarnation as a hotel is actually new. The building itself dates from around 1916 when it was a gentlemen's club for businessmen with ties to Alaska and the Klondike gold rush, but it was an office building until it was converted into a hotel in 2008. With that in mind I find it amusing to hear people rave about it being a "classic hotel" and such.

People who have stepped into the hotel can be forgiven for making this innocent mistake. The company who renovated what was inarguably a fairly rundown office building did an excellent job. The building is now a very fine hotel with one of the more civilized and welcoming lobbies in the city. The bar area is excellent for meeting people and having decent conversations over drinks (including locally brewed absinthe). The attached restaurant is more than adequate. The staff are all first rate and seem genuinely eager to help. As just one example, I somehow misplaced the baggie they now make you carry when going through airport security and needed one at check out this morning. The woman at the front desk checked around and ended up giving me her personal baggie I can only assume she uses to bring in her lunch. All of this was done with good humor and empathy. There really isn't anything more you could ask from hotel staff.

The rooms are fairly standard for a hotel of its class. The beds are comfortable. The bathroom feels spacious. The decor follows the general "old world masculine" feel of the hotel with lots of leather arm chairs and dark green paint. The street and hallway noise is incredibly very minimal considering the hotel is right on the cusp of one of the nightclub areas of Seattle and the financial or business district. Overall I found the stay to be more than pleasant and will be making this my usual hotel when I come back to Seattle on business.

I should take a moment to warn the usual traveler about a few things they might find not to their liking. There is no free breakfast of moist eggs and pre-cooked bacon. This did not phase me at all since there are several excellent coffee shops and eateries within a block of two of the lobby. However if "free continental breakfast" is part of your budgeting for a trip, you might want to look elsewhere. I should also mention the "fitness center" is a small room in the basement and feels like it was tacked onto the plans when someone pointed out all hotels have to have such a room. Again, I did not miss this at all. Seattle is a walkable town that is built on a giant hill. Simply walking around is going to give you a decent work out and at the end of this workout there will be smoked salmon or coffee awaiting.

Room Tip: I was booked into a wheelchair accessible room and found the experience quite a change. The removal...
