“Small but comfy”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Arrived a few hours before check in, but our room was ready which was great as the traffic was intense and so was the rain coming down. I had called ahead to see if we could get the parking pass early and was told to just park in front and then we would be given the pass and could go to the parkade which is only an easy block away. Since our room was ready we were able to offload our luggage into our room and head to the parkade. The room itself was very clean but VERY tiny, and very crowded with furniture. In the tiny room there was a desk and dresser and an armoire This seems a lot for a small room, and possibly could have done without the armoire. This would allow for more floor space to put your bags down and be able to maybe pull the chair out to sit down. As it was the only space to sit was on the bed. The rate was okay. Everything in Seattle seemed high for Pioneer Square area. This hotel seemed to be the most competitive, with good reviews. The area itself was interesting. We were able to walk to all the tourist attractions. Even the space needle was in walking distance. Although we took the monorail back which was a fun, and cheap experience. There are a lot of panhandlers around. But none that were overly aggressive. The underground tour is just up the road about a block and a half and was a lot of fun. The area around is full of great restaurants. My one complaint is the hotel was having brick work done right outside our hotel room. It sounded like they were going to come through the wall. We weren't spending a lot of time inside so it didn't really matter, but it didn't appear the hotel was full so it would have been nice to have been upgraded away from that one room where all the action was.

This hotel is classic. From the moment you enter you feel like you are stepping back in history (originally built in 1914). The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are quaint but comfortable. I felt like we were staying in a piece of Seattle history. It is conveniently located near the Underground Seattle Tour. We didn't go on it, but we would have if this trip was for fun not work. The only thing is that parking is down the block and costs extra. You can park in front to unload/load but then either use their parking garage ($20/day) or find your own parking. We happened to get this room last minute and a lot of hotels were completely booked. The rate wasn't the greatest but that is what you get when you book last minute.

Stayed in conjunction with medical appointments at Harbor View Medical Center. Was able to take advantage of the Hotels special medical rate, which was very helpful and appreciated. As before we were well satisfied with all aspects of our stay. Really appreciated the help several stall members provided in running down a cab for us when we got concerned about being late for our appointment on the first morning. Highly recommend this property.

We stayed here overnight in early July between trains from Vancouver to St. Paul. It was a pleasant walk from/to King Street station...especially when we were able to check our big suitcase at the station. The hotel used to be a flophouse on the original Skid Row, but has now been transformed into a nice boutique hotel. Our room faced the alley so was very quiet. Breakfast was the usual Best Western spread with something for everyone. The hotel is very convenient to the waterfront and not too far from Pike Place Market, if you like to walk. We had a great dinner at Ivar's and lunch at Pike Place Chowder.

We always stay at the Best Western Pioneer Square Hotel when we go to baseball games in Seattle. Good location for walking to the ball park, and around town. Nice rooms. The only complaint is the very slooow elevator.

This hotel was in a nice location - right in Pioneer Square area. Waterfront/Ferries were a block away. Downtown and Market were about a 15 minute walk. For an old Best Western, our room was clean and suited us just fine. It is nothing luxury, and for the money, we expected a bit more, but I guess hotels in Seattle are just expensive! Our only complaint was housekeeping knocking on our door at 8am both mornings we were there. I have never had HK knock that early in any hotel. Other than that, everything was fine.

The Best Western PLUS Pioneer Square is in an ideal location in downtown Seattle: walking distance to the Market, the waterfront, the ballparks, and the retail section of downtown. "Link" light rail delivered us from SeaTac Airport to within two blocks of the hotel for $2.75 each, and also put us within walking distance of the Space Needle area, which is on the northern side of downtown, too far to just walk from the hotel. One drawback to the Pioneer Square/waterfront area: panhandlers are everywhere, and some can be very aggressive and turn surly if rebuffed or ignored. Other than that, a great experience. Stocked our room with fresh flowers and fruit from the market on Day 1, and enjoyed great meals at Pike Place Chowder (crab rolls!!), Steelhead Diner (Olive-crusted halibut!!), and the little Italian place next door to the hotel. Also recommend taking the ferry over to Bainbridge Island; great fish and chips at Doc's Grill by the marina (way better than at any of the touristy places on the Seattle waterfront), and awesome ice cream at Mora's (Swiss chocolate!!). Can't beat the ferry price ($8 round trip) for getting out on the water and getting some great views of the city, the mountains, and Puget Sound. If you want to try something different, sign up for a 30-minute individual session at Seattle Glassblowing. A little pricey (a Groupon will cut the cost in half; the Link train will get you about 2/3 of the way there from Pioneer Square, and then it's another 6 blocks), but the experience is well worth it. Go to a Mariners game if they're in town, even if you're not a baseball fan. Get tickets HIGH on the first base side, like around sections 316-321. Three reasons: 1) Spectacular view of downtown from up there that's not as good from the third base side; 2) Walk out on the concourse behind you in about the 5th inning if it's a clear evening and check out the view of Mount Rainier in the setting sunlight - WOW - and you can't see that from the expensive seats; 3) Tickets are only $10 up there. Get something to eat on the lower concourse before you head to the upper deck; that's where all the interesting food stands are. Up top it's just hot dogs and beer, basically, and if you wait too late in the game to go back down, they start running out of the good stuff (i.e. no cole slaw left for the pulled pork sandwich that I had my taste buds set on - but they did almost force a free Mariners Dog on me for my trouble). We waited until our last evening to ride the big ferris wheel on the waterfront. It was a little anti-climactic; you still ought to do it once, but do it early in your trip. We held out, trying to get the clearest weather we could. The crowd was light on the weekdays, but I would still recommend purchasing and printing your tickets online in advance. That enabled us to just walk right up and get on board immediately. Bring good walking shoes for your trip to Seattle; we probably covered 25 miles in four days. Late July weather ranged from partly sunny/warm to drizzly/cool. Shorts, ball cap, and a couple of light layers on top, including water resistant pullover, were perfect. To a man, the staff at the Best Western PLUS Pioneer Square were extremely friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. Overall a great value, great experience.
