“What a magnificent structure inside and out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2014

The stained glass windows inside the church are something to behold, as they tell the story of th war and the region. The church itself sports a paratrooper dummy hanging from the tower like in the movie The Longest Day, although our guide informed us that it's on the wrong side, placed here to be more visible. The church itself is just beautiful inside. The only sad thing was they just ripped out all the old trees from the parking lot to make room for more parking in anticipation of the upcoming 2014 commemorations.

“Lovely country church with WWII importance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2013

This church would be worth a look even without its WWII significance. Set on a large square and forming the centerpiece of the town, it's easy to picture the D-Day events of the night that left a paratrooper injured and dangling from his parachute while German soldiers walked below. There are a number of interpretive markers to read for better understanding of events. The altar area of the church is light filled and almost delicate...an emotional contrast to what was going on outside the church during the dark days of occupation.

“Really neat to go inside...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 November 2013

The interior features a large commemorative stained glass & don't miss the famous 'pump' out front! Please notice the parachute hangs not on the side John Steele was on, but on the one facing the square so it is more obvious to visitors….

“Well worth a visit.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2013

The French are particularly proud to commemorate the fallen soldiers of the Allied invasion. Sadly we visited the area in November 11th, Armistice day when many/most business are closed as a mark of respect to the soldiers of the first world war.

“See the stained glass”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 November 2013

The only reason to go into the church is to view the amazing stained glass. The detail is incredible and really highlights the pride/gratitude the people of Normandy have for the airborne troops and other allied forces.
