“Outstanding cottage in an amazing location with wonderful hosts!”

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in October. It is difficult to describe how comfortable and convenient this little cottage is. There are all the mod cons and it is quaint, too, on top of that. You feel as though you have your own little nest in the countryside. Tansy and Mike are gracious and helpful hosts, with all the information you need to visit the historic beaches and other sights in the area. The glassed-in patio overlooking the pond and the animal enclosures is ideal for breakfast or enjoying a glass of wine in the evening. This cottage was all that was promised and more! I highly recommed this gite for a couple looking for a romantic and convenient location.

“Wonderful!”

What a wonderful experience!! Our recent trip to Normandy was made even more special with our stay at Tansy and Mike’s. They are the most gracious hosts and we felt like we were staying with friends, not just renting a place. We spent a wonderful evening with them enjoying great conversation and wine. Our family rented both the cottage and the barn-loft apartment. Both were perfect accommodations—clean, comfortable and well equipped with the ideal garden room that overlooks a pond and Tansy’s farm animals in the rear. We had fresh eggs every morning! Tansy and Mike are animal lovers, as are we, and their pets helped ease the loneliness we were feeling without our own dogs. Their home is right on the property and Tansy was readily available and so helpful in assisting us with our daily excursions. Mike was also great, but he unfortunately had to leave the day after we arrived. We highly recommend this property for exploring Normandy. We took the train from Paris to Caen, rented a car and found exploring the area very easy from this property. We were just minutes from N13, a main motorway.

The location of this property is excellent. It is right in the village of Houesville with Carentan and St. Mere Eglise just minutes away. Definitely recommend the Carentan market day and the caramel factory. The highlight of our trip was to participate in the village’s VE Day ceremony. What a moving experience, particularly when they began singing the Star Spangled Banner and God Save the Queen. Everyone was so welcoming at the gathering following the ceremony.

The only downside was that our trip was way too short! Definitely need more than a few days to fully explore and appreciate this area so we do hope that we will be able to return. Might even try a stay at Tansy and Mike’s other home which is located right on Utah Beach. However, we would then miss our great conversations with them. Thank you again, Tansy and Mike, for a stay in Normandy that exceeded our expectations. Don’t forget to let us know if you ever make it to the Philadelphia area. Hope to see you again--Donna, Tom, Sara and Jamie

“World Class Hospitality Amidst a Storybook Setting”
Reviewed 30 April 2012 for a stay in April 2012

Our stay at Tansy and Mike’s cottage was the highlight of our 14 day trip across Europe. Centrally located between St. Mere Eglise and Carentan, the property sits at the heart of all the most intense action of the D-Day invasion and is a great location from which to explore the rest of the sites in the Normandy area. It is secluded from the hustle and bustle of the major tourist areas and offers a truly authentic way to enjoy the countryside as it looked in 1944.
Upon our rather late arrival, we received the warmest welcome from Tansy and Mike who greeted us with their cavalcade of canines and whisked us into the cottage. Tansy ensured we were familiarized with the accommodations and, after realizing we were famished due to our long journey from the Netherlands, called ahead to reserve us a table at the John Steele Inn. When we returned from our wonderful dinner, Tansy had prepared for us a very informative packet of attractions in the area and prioritized our limited time to ensure we were able to see as much as possible. We followed her recommendations and it enabled us to see all the best of Normandy.
The cottage is magnificent. It is, quite literally, something out of a storybook. The authentic structure oozes character and we fell in love with it at first site. As you walk inside, Tansy has done a brilliant job of delivering 21st century interior design and amenities without sacrificing the 17th century charm of the cottage. With all updated appliances and fixtures, the kitchen has everything you need to prepare your own meals if you decide to dine in. You will enjoy eating on the all glass dining nook that lets you marvel at the pastoral view of the surrounding farmland from the comfort of the cottage. The bathroom is large and the water pressure from the shower is superb. The bed is comfortable and at night the area is deafeningly quiet. There is internet access via Wi-Fi and the satellite TV has hundreds of channels. The wood burning stove adds an element of romanticism to the already idyllic country splendor.
The best part of the experience was, undoubtedly, Tansy and Mike. From the moment we arrived until the moment we pulled away, they made us feel like we were at home. They gave us all the space we needed to enjoy our stay and explore Normandy, but were always available if we needed their assistance. They invited us into their residence for dinner and treated us like family. By the end of the visit, we did not want to leave. We cannot thank them enough for their warm hospitality and for bending over backwards to ensure our first-class treatment at every turn. We are already planning our next stay for the same time next year. If you are coming to Normandy, this is definitely the place to stay.

“Practically perfect in every way.”

I initially booked the Ferme d'Eglise on the strength of the reviews on this site. It sounded exactly like the modernly conveinent and cozyily historic French countryside retreat we needed to rest, recharge, and enjoy Normandy. The actual Ferme surpassed my expectations. Tansy and Mike are the type of people you have to meet to believe: consumate hosts, great friends, knowledgeable guides they made the experience sublime. The Ferme is easy to get to and located in the middle of all the historic sites in Normandy. We took day trips as far as Honfleur and Mont St. Michel easily, as well as cavorting along the coastline hitting all the small villages and larger cities. The cottage itself is well furnished with everything you need to be comfortable. The fireplace, sounds from the animals, and church bells made for an iydllic escape. We are already plotting a return visit. I can not reccomend this property high enough. Go, stay, and try to find a way to get adopted along with the dogs!

“A perfect cottage, in a very central position, with genial English hosts.”

My wife and I stayed at this cottage and loved every minute of it. Tansy Forster and her husband Mike will offer you the warmest of welcomes, and you will immediately feel the relaxed ambience they have created for your stay.
The cottage is situated in the grounds of an old farm and was once the village Boulangerie. It is now converted into a stunning holiday home, with attention to detail that retains character whilst providing the most modern amenities.
The accommodation is absolutely perfect for couples of all ages.
At the end of the garden there are goats, ducks, chickens, and even a couple of llamas!! Add to that five dogs and two cats and you start to get a picture of the idyllic French retreat that Tansy and Mike have created in this little bit of heaven on earth, and you could be part of it, at least for the duration of your holiday.
If you are looking for a romantic break, or if you enjoy the simple pleasures of life then you will not be disappointed.
There is only one word to describe our stay at the cottage…. Fabulous.
